Ties the books up!

Leaving Level Five
By L. S. O'Dea
This is book #5 in the series. This book goes back and ties up all the loose ends of books 2, 3, and 4. I was disappointed in those endings, but now I see that this book brought it all together.

The best Conguise book yet! How do you reconcile your conscience with your actions after you become aware of the evil in your past deeds? Can you continue on acting unaware because it is what's expected? Or do you change even if your safety is forfeit?

McBrid has worked for Professor Conguise a long time. The truth is no one ever quits working for the professor! They disappear or have fatal accidents. Of course, McBrid wasn't aware of that fact until it was too late.

Working in a lab with seeming unlimited funds and every bit of equipment you desire seemed great. For a while. But McBrid is the product of the love between his Almighty mother and her Guard. That fact alone would mean his death if the professor ever found out!

The inhumane experiments that all level five scientists participate in are carried out at the expense of Guard and House Servant lives. The lab procedures performed on these innocents without rights turn them into monsters. The luckiest ones loose their thinking ability, are reduced to the base instincts of their own bodies combined with whichever creature's DNA they receive.

The unlucky ones, like Fersia, a combination House Servant/giant spider, remember who they were, and everything done to them as their lives and bodies are ripped from them piece by piece. McBrid too remembers. He no longer can look at any of them as subjects. After all he is the same. Of all Conguise's scientists, only McBrid has learned to communicate with some of the monsters.

If he could he would give them back their lives. It is much too late for that. Now his real concern is how to extricate himself and the two Guards he is closest with while keeping them all alive! How long can he walk the tightrope of his job before he falls? If he falls, who will be pulled down with him?

LS O’Dea has outdone herself in this book because she not only gave us the horror of level five in the Conguise laboratories which the rest of the Chronicles had given us, but this time round she has given us a real heart wrencher which had me crying for a large part of the book. The friendship shown by Charlie, a guard working for Mcbrid, towards Glick, the littlest of the brush-men is so beautiful, the trust so impeccable that I was really overwhelmed. The feelings of fear and anger the monsters showed and their sentience and ability to communicate with one another was unexpected. She also satiated a bit of our need for revenge on the scientists working for the autocratic Professor. However, I for one will not rest easy before the revenge is complete and this will only happen when Conguise himself falls prey to the monsters he is creating. It is a book which is full of tension from start to finish and wow what a finish! A must read book for all who love horror and have the courage to read about these evil machinations which no doubt happen also in real life!

I have read all of the books in the Conguise Chronicles series and this one didnt disappoint me. I was surprised to find myself empathising with McBrid after the awful mutilations which he had carried out in previous books but the author has a way of pulling you to McBrid's side. There's some new characters too, definitely deserving of what's to come and some older characters who get their just desserts. In this chronicle we see McBrid reflecting on his past actions and looking for a way out but Conguise isn't a forgiving employer when you want to hand in your notice. The suspense is tantalizing, keeping the reader on the edge of the seat, wondering what's coming next. I loved the whole storyline and pace of the plot which invoked strong feelings of loathe and love for the .characters. I would recommend this books as a very good read, excellent value for money but also that the reader makes sure they have accessed the whole series to fully appreciate and understand the plot

McBrid works as a scientist for Professor Conguise and really hates his job but realises that there is no way out alive. He hates himself even more after what he did to Fersia and is determined to treat the other better - even though Guard Charlie and Bush Man Glick's interference might push everything too far resulting in an end to McBrid. Who will survive and leave level 5?

This was full of action and plots within plots as McBrid struggled to save others as well as himself. I definitely found myself reading faster and faster as I needed to know what happened to them next and if they survived. Well written and very enjoyable it's going to be hard to wait for the next book in this delightful series to be published.

Rattus Project

Conguise is the head of the lab where species and humans are genetically modified. At this time, he wanted guards (brutal class that guards the Almighty's) for transition to rat people. What follows is what this book entails. I personally loved the book but I don't like books that just abruptly end. There are 5 books in this series of the Chimera and each one ends without knowing what happens. If you don't mind being left in the dark at the end of the story then this fantastical series for you. The writing is very good, the plot is unique, my only downfall is the sudden end of the story. Perhaps there will be a book tying this series together otherwise, make up your very own conclusion as to what happens.

Heart stopping tension and suspense throughout this book. I loved meeting up again with old friends and discovering what has become of them. I was silently screaming in my head, cheering them on - the tension was practically giving me a headache! So sad that my favourite character could not go! New friendships are forged, unswerving loyalties, thirst for revenge, betrayals - this book is a page turner! I hope there is another book in this series of Conguise Chronicles, I cannot recommend it highly enough - a definite must read!

The - so far - final book in the Chimera Chronicles, Leaving Level Five, is about hope and fear. McBrid is the focus of the story but we meet other characters from earlier tales in the pentalogy. McBrid is a hero despite the work he does. He still fears for his life while working for Conguise and we learn more about his world outside of the laboratory. His guilt about what he has done eats away at him as well and he fears for his charges. Fast-paced, thrilling and emotionally draining; a new character is introduced who I hope we hear more of in the future.

The Conguise Chronicles continue with the non-stop attention grabbing plot that fans have grown to love and to hate to wait for the next installment. Wait no longer, as it's here. It remains the can't put it down until the last page has been read. I received an ARC in return for an honest review. Well, I honestly cannot wait for the next book from the world of Lake of Sins and the mind of L. S. O'Dea!

WOW! Remorse, revenge and a twist - O'Dea has done it again!

I absolutely loved this story. I could really feel the remorse from McBrid and the dynamics between him and Charlie were very refreshing. THAT ENDING! Talk about getting your just deserts. And that twist - diabolical. I can't wait to see the next creation from Level Five.

This is a brilliant series; I love the world the author has created and the way the different levels are treated and despite themselves form friendships and attachments. This book brings so much of the series together. This story is mesmerizing and once I started reading it I had no choice but to read it cover to cover. It’s such a well written intense story.

As usual, another intriguing read. All of the books are great and by now we know that working on Level 5 is code red every day for somebody, just depends on how the day goes who is....reded, but is it possible for somebody to leave level 5...intact (at least physically)?
