A New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author, Penelope Sky is known for her dark romance that makes you fall for her characters….no matter how dark they seem. Her books are being translated into several languages around the world, and she’s sold more than a million books worldwide. She lives in a small town in California with her husband, where she spends most of her time writing on the back porch.
For some reason, I have fallen down a Penelope Sky rabbit hole this last week and have apparently decided to read her entire back list. Not sure how or why this is the case, but I am a mood reader and her formula is really hitting the spot for me. So here we are.
Speaking of formula...she has a VERY obvious one. And by that I mean that her characters are almost literally the same across every single series, which I can confidently say as I have literally read five of her series (three books each) since the beginning of the year. Four of those happening in the last week.
And I'm not even joking, her male/female leads are almost carbon copies of each other. The males are all billionaire assholes with ripped physiques they cultivate through a regimented workout program and a strict diet. Except for the scotch, of course. They ALL drink scotch. They also all call the lead female by a specific nickname for entirety of each series and sometimes cheat.
The female leads on the other hand are basically female perfection personified. They are all tiny, with tiny waists, but luscious breasts and asses. They never workout, but maintain their figures despite eating whatever they want. And, of course, they are the most beautiful females to ever live. In every room they enter. And the hero always becomes obsessed with them as they are so not like other girls, you know? Because sassy and sexy and best sex ever. And they sometimes have liaisons of their own.
And you know what?
Cause I am loving it at the moment. It's like reordering your favorite current meal every day, knowing it's going to be delicious. And I am perfectly content to gorge myself right now.
So there you go.
I liked Maverick and Arwen, but they are probably my least favorite PS leads so far. I was also annoyed by Arwen. She kept going behind his back like she knew better and it annoyed me. The whole thing with his father was silly. Just fucking kill him. And note to Penelope Sky: Glocks don't have external safety buttons. So stop that with the constant mention of Glocks and safeties. Also a little more OM/OW stuff that I felt was a little quick and overdone. It's not a hard limit for me, but I thought Arwen's actions were gratuitous.
Same old story again... 😐 I think this was my last book by this author. The story is a washed up version of the same stuff, over and over!!! Same cliches all over again! She is the most beautiful women the H ever seen, her pu*sy is magic, she is sex on a stick and every men wants to fu*k her. she breaks glasses with her high pitch voice! 😂 LoL
H sells cheese but for some reason in the past he was "bad" and still has an army and guns at his disposal... Because he needs to be an asshole and dumb!
Yes, another author who just believes that women should be treated like garage. Of course, he will regret fucking two women in the same house his wife was in. Of course he will realize that he loves her. And of course she'll take the cheater back because, come on! It would take a lot of work for this writer to be original.
Ok. I was so happy because it truly seemed both MCs did a lot of growth even with the push and pull. I wasn’t feeling a lot of chemistry from them in the first book and was a bit disappointed because I’ve become accustomed to Ms. Sky’s amazing couples. I was thrilled by the depth of passion Maverick and Arwen developed for each other.
THEN... Maverick seriously screwed it up in the last 2 chapters! Honestly! I think he might be the most flawed and irredeemable antihero that Ms. Sky has ever written.
I hate to say this but Maverick could have just pretended to cheat on Arwen. Maybe I read it wrong but it definitely seemed like he cheated. Ms. Sky could have written it in a way that Arwen thought he had, but he simply acted like he had cheated in order to put distance between them. Since we got confirmation of the infidelity from his POV there doesn’t leave much room for doubt.
This might be the first of any series written by this author that I won’t finish. It would have been a 5 Star read. I’m actually so disgusted by those last 2 chapters I can’t give it above a 2.5 rating. The writing was impeccable and the character development riveting UNTIL IT WASN’T.
Knowing myself I’ll probably still read the final book if for no other reason that I’ve been a loyal fan of this author’s work and I want to see Maverick raked through the hell I hope Arwen puts him through. I want to see this character beg and grovel.
Same old story by Penelope with a twist. The most beautiful woman in Italy meets the hottest, richest man in Italy. She needs saving so he marries her to protect her. She’s okay with them having an open marriage because they don’t love each other. He regularly brings women home and doesn’t hide it. They have sexual chemistry and begin to sleep together. Penelope forces the connection between the characters, spoiler: it isn’t there. Woman starts to fall in love. Male character is inconsistent. He doesn’t love her but he would DIE. FOR. HER. Woman writes a love song about her husband and sings it in front of his acquaintances. He feels uncomfortable and brings two women home because well...he didn’t love her and they had an OPEN. MARRIAGE. Woman is hurt. Demands divorce because he “cheated”. Sigh. Oh and he sells cheese and is also somehow dangerous.
Penelope. I just don’t know what to say anymore. Evolve, honey. EVOLVE. And your characters may as well live in Wisconsin for all I care. There is nothing Italian about these characters outside of their last names.

Ugh, based on how much spittle was left on my screen from the jerry springer girls, I was expecting some real hardcore angst. I didn't feel it, at all. Oh well, onward and upward. I'll still cruise those gals reviews like pigs on a blanket for good cheating books, though. I've come across a few worth reading that way.
I knew what was going to happen but I read it anyway, and I’m glad that I did. The plot may not be the most original, but the author’s writing style makes the book amazing. The Lobe Wolf can’t come soon enough.
This should have been a duology. If a bunch of bullshit drama hadn't been thrown in at the very end, this would have been an excellent conclusion. Until the end I had really liked this, but I don't care to read the next book to see them make up. Arwen went behind Maverick's back again and caused major problems, but what did he do? Forgive her. He screwed up at the end, and she didn't stick around for a minute. The guy almost died for her. What he did was really shitty, but it didn't have the life altering consequences her mistakes did. I was really disappointed in both characters at the end.
It's an Okay read for me with drama and stuff. There is not much expectation and so far the pacing is ok...let's see how the guy grovels in the next book as there is some grovelling in the next book.
I read this book in one go! Took 3 hours to finish and I had to read it in one sitting bc like... I hate the feeling it gave me like. The open relationship and sleeping around w others I’ve expected since the last book.
BUT JUST WHEN I was finally saying that it was getting good, it just freaking RUINED ALL THE EMOTIONS built up! Wtf! It was sooo not necessary to sleep (SPOILERS)! With 2 women in the same freaking house when u legit wanted to die for her like days ago! Like wtf it doesn’t make any sense and it came out of nowhere. I am like SO MAD. I don’t do reviews often but this is just on another level crazy. He could have just PRETENDED but he ACTUALLY FREAKING cheated! Like wtf! I don’t know about anyone but I was hoping for Arwen to send those women back and asking for a divorce right there tbh 😑

The FMC confessed her love for the MMC and the stupid asshole that he is who cannot confront his own feelings decided to leave the party and had a threesome.
The FMC saw him and the two women the next morning in their house. And he had the audacity to tell her that it what was they agreed before. They were in an open relationship in the book 1 and half of the book 2. But then they became exclusive without actually talking about exclusivity.
I liked it better than Book 1 but I still skimmed most of the book. I don't usually mind OW/OM drama if both parties are involved with other people but the H did cheat on her after she wrote him a song, sang it, and confessed her love to him - he basically ignored her after that and went home with 2 women, more specifically: Maverick cheated on Arwen with 2 women on their bed.
I waited a month for this book and devoured it in less than a day. I don’t know what it is about this story that I love so much, but I’m going insane thinking about how I have to wait another month for the next installment.
Dnf 30%. Nope! Can't do it. Can not suffer through this anymore. These characters are insufferable. Both of them. Maverick screws anything that moves, and Arwen is desperate for any kind of affection from him. They both cheat and use people and have zero conscious about the people they're using. I'm tired of hearing how hot Arwen is and how every man she's with becomes obsessed with her. This isn't a sham marriage. It's an open marriage because they sleep together as well. From other reviews I've read there's a grovel from him apparently, but in my opinion why does she need one? She's just as pathetic as he is, so I'm throwing in the towel. Also, they talk like high school students 🤷 I apologize because I know this is a very unkind DNF 🙈
God, seeing this book has an average of 4.30 stars makes me really question the sanity of these people. HEAR ME OUT: JUST FINISHED THE BOOK AND GOT SOME SHIT TO SAY. (SPOILERS) Okey, so we get this girl which voilá is super-hyper-ultra sexy, and don't worry you won't forget that at any moment because the book reminds you of that every *five pages*. I got into this with ideas of a S&M relationship maybe, something fun and rebellious or even thrilling but OH BOY WAS I WRONG. Let's resume our main couple: Girl extra hot, good pipes, emotional blurb and can't stand up for herself, so she bravely asks the husband to KILL the guy that her father owns. Guy with a lot of issues that the author try to justify but just ends up being boring and silent, like, we get it he's super hot as well and rich and strong, but common, WE ARE READING A BOOK. It doesn't really work if you put a POV for him if all is just "i'm not much of a talker" and "i am angry in this corner" "let's fuck", I mean he had sass and potential in the first book? sure, the second book started nice, but man, now he's just an ass. I mean, how come we get a russian roullette and the guy is like "just another average morning". I get it, strong guys are sexy, but you know what's not sexy? having your male lead as deep as a puddle. Oh, and I do have to say that I have zero problems with them having an open relationship, there could be a good story where a couple is in love but still enjoy other company, that's reality folks. The fact that he brought other women home at the end of the second book didn't surprise me either, 'cause that's not the drama of the story, not saying that he wasn't an ass, but common, that's the focus right now? That's what will break them apart and go for a divorce? Jesus christ, I could this of a hundred other problems to pin point in that marriage way more serious, to name a few: she IS COMPLETELY FUCKING DEPENDENT ON HIM, HE DOESN'T LIKE HER HE JUST LIKES TO PLAY THE HERO, the chemistry is weird like he says that she looks at him as if he was the only men on her life, but hello? it looks like he's the only person in her life. She doesn't go out with friends, we don't have a single interaction with her that doesn't mention him. He only goes out with one friend, and god forbid he actually enjoyed socializing with people because he's too much of a men for that. You know what? They need some therapy. It's simply exhausting seeing how they fuck because the writing is repetitive, he has a huge dick, and she's super wet all the time, what a dream! Get ready for a ride of she begging him to be around, him being boring and having this weird kink of calling each other the wolf and the sheep because they look more like the crab and the ant: don't live in the same world. Having that said, 3 stars because they got the balls to put the ending twist of the menage and althought they managed to keep a boring routine with two killers on their back, there was one thrilling chase and he's trying to be better...? (even thought I rolled my eyes reading for the tenth time how all the guys in the room eye-fucked his wife, in case you forgot: THEY ARE HOOOOOOT)
I will admit that I had no intention of reading on past book one. Mostly because this author dislikes her heroines. All the shit she piled onto Sheep and even giving her the name Sheep, not rabbit, fox or some other woodland animal with smarts and charm. Sheep.
The wolf is not so much like his namesake. He truly is a coward. He takes the Russian Roulette option because he either wins or loses but doesn't have to deal with the loss. He would be dead so no consequences for him to deal with.
Sheep proved she would give herself up for him, she proved and showed how she felt all along but the moment it is irrefutable Wolf is the coward he has always been. At least she didn't ghost around the house indefinitely this time she gave him his papers so she can walk away.
The Wolf carried on like he was enjoying monogamy and marriage. He bought her clothes, played a deadly game, stood up to his dad, watched her perform , took her to parties, enjoyed people acknowledging her...the second he can't deal though he self destructs their relationship. I believe he did it. I believe he is the worst of all heroes and cowards. It's just sad that PS will make this lovely woman end up with him.
This heroine should have her vengeance in book three... Be found as the superstar she is. Earn millions on her own merit. Have men fall at her feet. Find one that has the best qualities or Wolf PLUS stand up to Wolf and be the heroines HEA. Please.please.please. Can't we be nice to a heroine and make the hero suffer ?!🙃
“You aren’t afraid to die because you want to die…” He stopped eating and lifted his eyes. With heartbreak in my veins, I held his gaze and felt my heart sink into my stomach. “I’m not suicidal.” “No…but you don’t want to keep living either.” He turned his eyes back to his food and kept eating. “Sometimes, I get tired. There’s so much bad and very little good. And the good things that happen to you don’t last forever. Then you’re haunted by the memories.”
