Unknown to both of them, forces are at work to keep them apart as a plot is being planned. The torment and heartache these two have to live through will have you on pins and needles as Gio has no choice but to let Asia go, but Asia has her own torment and secrets she is keeping from him. I never expected this whirlwind of emotions!!

It's been love at first sight with this book.
The cover and the title attracted me and the blurb convinced me to read it.

I have to admit i thought the story would have follow another path, but I can’t complain because the author had me hooked from the first page.

Giovanni knows very well how tough is life in the mafia world: his scars speak out loud.
They have turned him in a monster...
The only light in his life is Asia, the little girl he grow up with, the only one who matter something, the only one he loves.
But in this world love means nothing, and Asia & Gio gonna find it out in the hardest way.

Oh my ... the angst!!!

It killed me reading how much this love has been hindered.
The pain they have endured...

Gio tried so hard to numb it with meaningless sex, alcohol and drugs; whereas Asia had to play the part of the obedient girl while hiding her demons.

Erin Trejo show us perfectly the evilness of mad men. Gio himself is a ruthless killer: easily kills people since a young age.

Not even their love is pure: it's defied by the darkness that surrouds their lives.
And maybe it's what makes this story so addictive....

The story covers a long period of time (we are talking about years) but there are less than 200 pages so many things feels a bit rushed, and this is the only reasons I didn’t give it 5 stars.

Anyhow, it was an amazing discover and I absolutely recommended it!!

What an amazing start to my dark mafia love! Never having read such a romance before, I was delighted by Erin Trejo's Born To Kill. Gio, our anti-hero is the sexiest tortured soul I've ever come across. I loved him and found his abusive upbringing and life under a tyrannous father interesting and exciting. The love that grounds him to the earth-- keeps him grasping to his humanity-- is one of the girls in the family, Asia, but she's been promised to another. Their relationship unfolds throughout the years and is wrought with heavy passion, turmoil and high stakes. And in the end, you are in store for some heart-wrenching twists...

Thank you to the author for opening my eyes to Mafia romance! I will definitely read more by this talented author.

My thoughts are probably more on the unpopular side, but I was frustrated by this book. Born to Kill is my first Erin Trejo book and it really put me off.

First, I liked the premise - dark romance, unrequited romance, Mafia. I was seriously excited to start reading this book. Unfortunately, I made it to 50%ish before I had to mark it as a DNF. Before I delve into the negatives, I have to say that I liked the danger surrounding the whole story. I liked how Trejo set up the atmosphere of the book with the first few chapters when Gio was still a child - the tough decisions that he had to make. Trejo doesn't shy away from the darkness and I LOVE it.

However, that's the only thing that I loved about it. The transitions weren't seamless that it was really hard for me to keep track of what was happening. Heck, I didn't know how many years have passed from the time Gio left his home to the time he stayed in California and when he came back. I seriously had to backtrack a bit and figure it out on my own.

I also had a hard time with the conversations between the characters. I felt that it didn't flow well, it was again hard to follow. There was also a lack of character development. Especially Asia's character arc. It was just not enough to keep me reading on.

Another thing that frustrated me so much was the formatting. It had extra spaces on my Kindle at certain parts, that it was annoying for me. Not only that, I think this book needed another round of editing. While I don't judge a book solely on the errors, I DO if it keeps popping up constantly. My example for this is the word vial. It kept popping up as vile and it was driving me crazy! Now, I am not an expert on drugs and the Mafia but I think she meant VIAL? Anyway, it was driving me bonkers.

I don't know if I am reading a different book, but all the reviews on Goodreads are overwhelmingly positive. I guess Born to Kill by Erin Trejo is just not for me. This is a book that I don't think I can recommend to anyone.

I loved this book. The alpha could have broke as a child but no, he is a survivor which is more than his cousins were. The heroine was strong in her own right. She loved hard and protected the ones she loved as best she could. OMG the way he showed her that the girl meant nothing was everything. When the heroine pulled the trigger I almost died (lol you have to read to find out what that means). In the end I got my much needed HEA. So for me this was everything. Read people, read!

Erin Trejo writing style always blows me away. When I see a book with her name on I automatically grab it up. I know no matter what the genre, I am going to get an intense, mind blowing storyline that will not only keep me engrossed to the end but will also sink its teeth into my emotions. And boy oh boy does Born to Kill do all of that and then some. I tip my hat to Ms. Trejo for giving me another amazing book with a storyline and characters I won’t soon forget.

Gio is the illegitimate son of the DeLuca family’s kingpin. But rather than be enveloped into the family and stand by his father’s side, he is beaten and abused from the time he can walk. He is trained to become a cold hearted killer to be used as his father demands. The only speck of light in his life is Asia. Raised together, she would tend his wounds and still his heart as he does hers. But his nightmare of a father is always one step ahead, and at Asia’s 18th birthday she is promised to marry his cousin, killing any hope of their ever being together. Little does his father know this one small degree just might be the worst thing he could ever done for the entire DeLuca family.

This story tore my heart apart as these star crossed lovers attempt to live a life apart in a hell they both hate. It kept my emotions soaring with the chess match for power going on within and around the DeLuca family. I simply loved it. 2 Thumbs up and 5+ stars for an absolutely outstanding mafia read.

Plot: Giovanni is the bastard son of a mafia don, and Asia is the daughter of one his (the father's) men. They've basically grown up together, but while Asia is protected by her father and his position, Gio is tormented under the guise of training. He becomes a killer, but all the while, he and Asia form a bond of love that is unbreakable. When Asia is 15, Gio's dad arranges for her to marry Gio's cousin once she turns 18. Gio and Asia are separated off and on throughout the next few years, but there is something more going on that sends Asia in a different direction. Gio may not be able to protect her once she starts making decisions for herself rather than the family.

Character development: Asia is sweet, and almost too naive, until the point where the family, namely Gio's dad, breaks her. It's no surprise that towards the end of the book, she tries to kill herself. For a moment, I was really worried that Gio was going to let her! I should have known better. However, if you've read Crow by this author, you can see why I might be cautious!. But at the end, I was really glad that the two of them were able to break away rather than sink deeper into the mafia world. I think Asia was too good-hearted for that world, and Gio wouldn't be able to avoid the violence and killing unless he was far away.
I do wish the dad had suffered a little more, and it would have been nice to get to know Matteo more, even if only as a foil to Gio.

We all have authors we fan girl over. Well this one is mine. Her books send me in EVERY direction, every single one. I have no idea why she isn't a bestselling author. She has a way of finding and nurturing the dark side in me I didn't realize I had. Her character's are those people we don't want to know or a least not acknowledge. They are dark and dangerous and the scary men that kill, steal and destroy as well in the dead of night as well as in the day. They will destroy you one way or another if you get too close. He was beaten and tortured and reminded daily he was nothing but a ba$tard with a who$re for a mother. He's was never good enough and never would be. She was the light to his darkness and even though he loved her dearly he wanted a different life for her. Nothing is easy and of course that means everything is taken. Battle lines will be drawn but even before it can happen the battle will be raged. Anger, resentment, betrayal, death, it wouldn't be a book by this author without it. Loyalties will be tested. The assassin the one that was born to kill will be no longer one way or another.

Gritty and Dark

This is a mafia book written with true Erin Trejo style. The sexy Gio who was raised to be a killer with his father at the helm of the Delucca family never knew what family or love was about. This is true except for the sweet innocent Asia who has been a part of Gio’s life since she was seven. This is the only person who doesn’t fear the animal that Gio has been turned into.

This is like Ms. Trejo’s MC books in that it is dark and gritty and has you sitting on the edge of your seat wondering where you are going to be taken on the wild ride.

Erin Trejo's MC books are always a masterpiece of iron horses burning up the roads and the men who ride them and the women that tame them are absolute works of written art. But when she goes darker, when she moves into the underworld of the mafia, things take on a different light, a different color and hue. There is no denying that the heat she writes into her stories resonates throughout any genre she writes, but the beat of the story is quite different. The excitement is palpable, the intrigue is nerve wracking, and the end justifying the means remains the same, but the intensity is quite different between genre's.

This is an amazing read. The storyline will wreck your heart, will have your emotions fluctuating rapidly and repeatedly and will quite possibly destroy your nails. I loved ever single second that I spent reading this book and thoroughly fell for the characters. I cannot recommend this book highly enough...ten star worthy!

Trejo made a name for herself writing MC Romance but branched out to write other genres; Mafia romance being one of them, and the darker the better. Not saying she can't write happy but she does excel at leading readers down a dark and twisted rabbit hole where pain is pleasure and the antihero is the norm. No prince charming here.

Giovanni was born into a family of pain with a father who used everyone around him and cared only for himself. Asia was part of the "family". Love born from pain and hate. Romeo and Juliet with a better ending. Man was it touch and go. Wow. The internal torture and struggle these two go through is so real. The back and forth of love and hate; The need to be together but the inability to be together. The physical tortures of their lives. Erin Trejo is able to bring you into the pain of her characters. It truly is a gift.

I do have one criticism that nagged me throughout the book: sense of time. Until the book was almost finished we rarely know the timeline. At one point I thought Giovanni was still 16 or 17 going into an adult entertainment establishment and making deals with other Mafia and then having sex with a stripper. One minute we are at point A the next we are at point B with no sense of transition or time. Later it changes because Giovanni says things like, "...for a year I watched her....".
Still I enjoyed this book it was a good read. I wonder if a man could still remain "alpha" if the roles were reversed. If she were Born To Kill and he was more of a supporting figure. Hmm....anyway this is a nice character study. I recommend reading.

This story starts out intense and stays that way all the way through. Gio is made to live a life no child should have. Lets face it this is total child abuse. Yet because of money and power his dad is able to treat him like that and not be turned in for torturing his son. It seems his dad rules more than just Gio. Included in his dictatorship is Asia and her father. Since the people included in their circle know to disobey is certain death or worse, Asia grows up in a world not unlike Gio’s just her’s is mental instead of physical. Gio and Asia form a attachment that carries through their life and makes for a lot of twists and turns that make it seem impossible for them to be together or to be somewhat normal. The emotions throughout the story run high. Mostly horror and sadness. This author is able to take a story that hopefully doesn’t happen every day and make it seem so real. The way Gio is forced to deal with his cousins and the way he grows to not feel really made me sad. Asia’s story is not less sad when I found out what really happens to her. Even though this is a strange sort of romance, the sex is more than a little hot. I love this author’s stories. She never fails to keep me hooked. She is one of the few I keep on a watch list and can’t wait to see what she will write next.

Asia is Gio’s only shining light in a life of darkness. She is the only thing keeping Gio from turning into the monster his father wants him to be. But unbeknownst to both, Gio’s father has Asia’s future already planned and they don’t include Gio. Will Gio be able to get past his own self-deprecation to save not only Asia from an unhappy future but also save himself?

Trejo is known for her MC romance novels. This is her first full length mafia romance and I can say she has no issue crossing over. Her deliciously, dark, depraved mind translates well in mafia romance. As with all her writing, Trejo’s characters are well developed and show her vivid ruminations.

If this is your first reading of Trejo’s books, I would highly recommend you check out her MC romance series. I absolutely love how she continues to incorporate previous characters into her books so you feel like her stories never end. I look forward to more of Trejo’s exploration into this genre, and look forward as she develops Born to Kill into a series.

Wow this book was something different for me but it was alright for a Mafia-ish type book

Giovanni was raised differently from other children...like constant beatings, learning different fighting styles, learning about guns and learning to kill...but in his "family" this is the normal to grow strong and become someone important!
Gio's job for the family is to kill because that's what he has been trained for but it's not a willing choice.
Asia has loved/taken care of Gio since she was little but on her 15th birthday is was decided that she would marry Gio's cousin Matteo instead of Gio because that is what Gio's dad and head of the "family" wants.
A lot can change over time but it's not enough for Asia and she can't take much more!
Gio has been away from the family for a bit but once he's learned what's going on things are going to change!

Asia, a pampered princess, and Gio, an animal in the making, grew up together. As the story progresses darkness spreads, choices seem to be given, and the decision reached change everything including their future. Erin Trejo plays the emotional instrument of writing like the professional she is, tugging her readers this way and that until they don’t know if they want to hug her or yell at her. Born To Kill had me swing on that pendulum the entire time. Her use of darkness is amazing, forcing the characters to either sink or swim at her whim. I am truly grateful that I encountered her books and that she continues to expand her body of work making me and her other readers swing the emotional gambit. Reader Discretion advised due to dark subject matter and/or possible triggers.

Ahhh I loved this book! From the very first page I enjoyed this. I have read very little mafia before, so I don't have much experience in the genre, but I found it fast-paced and interesting the whole way through.

Both Asia and Gio were likable for me. I loved how Asia never hid her love for him and I enjoyed his inner turmoil. He felt like he was in denial some of the time, like he couldn't admit the truth about what he really felt.

I am a really slow reader because of time allowing me to read, but I flew through this book. It was easy to follow, a few really hot scenes, good story line, good characters, and there was one scene toward the end that I'm still laughing my ass off about. .I bet Asia won't ask him if he loves another girl again LOLOLOL I really enjoyed the writing style as well. This was my first book by this author and now I can't wait to see what else she has out there!

Finished this last night but needed some time to marinate on it!
Gio and Asia, Matteo, Roberto, the father - the story of a life starting bad, middle bad, and ending bittersweet.
Raised in the hellish household, knowing you are not wanted, the bastard son - never to be really loved for the person you are. Raised to be a monster but knowing deep down you want something more but accepting your fate, that is Gio.
Raised to be the princess, the beloved girl ( in more ways that one) and then handed off to make an alliance but never happy, making choices that are wrong but you think are the perfect ending just to survive, that is Asia.
The story of love lost and found and together and not together. I swear it had everything possible in it, intrigue, drama, love, loss, everything. Erin has done it again! Loved this story and I was so glad I couldn't really follow (usually you know where things are going) but surprises lurked in the background and twists that came to light. Adored! Cheers, Erin you are brilliant!

From a very young age Giovanni DeLuca was beaten and groomed by his father's henchman to be a killer, there was no love lost between him and his father, as he grew the hate between them grew. When his father gave the love of his life Asia to his cousin to marry, she wanted Gio, he wanted her and Matteo didn't want to come between them but there was nothing any of them could do and so he threw himself into his work to stay away knowing he was just a pawn in his father's machinations. However things are not what they seem, truths come to light and the end may finally come.

This is a thrilling and emotional fast paced story that I devoured in one sitting, the pages flowed and I couldn't get enough, I felt for the characters, the love, the hate, the despair and even hope. This is one heck of a good book.

This book took me totally by surprise! When I started read this, my heart broke for Gio. Abused, used by his father, and trained to be a cold-blooded killer, his only ray of light is Asia, his childhood friend and his father's second in command's daughter. On Asia's 18th birthday, Gio's father promises her to Gio's cousin, breaking Gio apart.
Erin Trejo is a written who knows how to play a rider from start to finish, twisting and turning your emotions, ripping your heart out, and then pulling you back together again. She is definitely one of my favorites and this book is why.

Wow, oh my goodness, fan-freaking-tastic these are all words that I am going to use when describing this author’s latest release. She writes emotionally charged stories with characters that suffer cruelty or heartbreak but they always come out the other side. Maybe not totally unscathed but they heal from the physical and emotional damage. Gio and Asia are two broken souls, one carries the scars on the inside and one the outside but they compete each other. I couldn’t put this down I had to know what was was going to happen to each character and I just couldn’t predict the paths they would take . Erin Trejo can simply do no wrong in my eyes, I was excited to get my hands on this book and I wasn’t disappointed.... the writing and story telling style, the emotions and angst of the characters is felt just from her words .
