He was more than my bully, he was what living nightmares were made of…

“I dare you…” It started as a childish game played between two friends, that ended in heartbreak.

I knew him once. A long time ago you may have even called us friends. That was before I moved away before my mother married his father before my entire life fell apart.

I lost everything, my friends, my popu

My emotions were freaking all over the place with this one!

It’s one of the rare moments where the second book is even better than the previous one!!!!
Vance carries so much hatred for Ava during the last 5 years. Now that she appears back into his life, Vance will finally get his payback!!

“I’m going to break her, destroy her. I’ll send her back to wherever the fuck she came from crying, and she’ll think twice before crossing paths with me again.” Vance

The storyline was amazing, the writing was superb, fast paced, dual pov and the char

The .5 is for the grovelling cuz it was actually pretty good but the H’s actions were unforgivable (calling her a slut, manhandling her, using OW for bj cuz he wants h blah blah blah, you know the usual) and the h was just... ughhh, well, she was a doormat who forgives too easily, cries a lot, gives in too easily cuz duh she’s horny, and doesn’t really fight back and I really hate that. Buuut she was aight at the end, though, can’t really forget how much of a dumbass she was for the fir

Sort of like watching a car crash, it’s impossible to tear your eyes away from this book once you get into it - no matter how much you may want to. I still can’t decide if I loved or hated this book; it straddled the line between the two too many times to count. And that’s a good description of the romance in this book as a whole - there is a fine line between love and hate, which Vance and Ava know all too well. The story follows childhood friends who are separated after a mysterious event that ...more

“I want to own her fear, her hate, her anger.”
Wow. Another great bully, enemies to lovers read by these authors.
You will feel the pain and anger. Many Secrets and lies.
Can they find forgiveness and love after all the hurt?

Let’s chat books.

I read the first book in this series, been a while, so I don’t remember anything about it. However, each book can be read as a standalone. I regret waiting so long to jump back on the wagon. Oh, if I had known ‘The Dare’ was a stepbrother romance, I wouldn’t have waited so freaking long. I’m a sucker for forbidden romance, stepbrother being my top favorite.

My thoughts catch on Ava. My ex-best friend, and new stepsister.

Vance made me hate and love him. There were things he had done that made me

Another great story by JL Beck and C. Hallman of two young people whose lives get shattered by playing a game of Dare. Neither Vance or Ava would ever realize that the cause of this action would lead to heartbreak and change lives forever. This story will shatter you, pull you in as you follow the path of destruction that follows Ava, five years later her Father is in rehab and they lost everything by her Mother's selfish actions. Now she is faced with being homeless and when her Mother reaches ...more

After reading The Bet I was looking forward to Vance's book. Vance and Ava were best friends as kids. They liked to play truth or dare. After a dare gone wrong they don't see each other again for five years. Vance blames Ava for his parent's divorce and he wants to make her suffer. He is not pleased when he finds out his dad is marrying Ava's mom and that Ava is moving in with them. Poor Ava thinks that they are going to pick up right where they left off in their friendship. Vance is determined ...more

“Stepsister or not, she’s dead to me.
She was dead to me the night she lied about me to her father.”

Truth or dare? A regular and innocent game between two friends, Ava and Vance, has unimaginable consequences when Ava decides to choose dare for the first time. In pursuit of her mission, she ends up seeing a scene that will destroy her family as well as her friend's family. And especially the friendship between them. Ava will not see him again. Vance will hate her.

The Dare was a first read for me from both authors. I didn't feel like I'd missed anything with this being the second book in the series and jumping into it at this point, so The Dare can be read as a complete standalone. The authors write well together, but this book overall just didn't light my happy book place up.

What exactly does that mean?

Yes, this is a bully romance, I know it's not all sunshine, giggles and rainbows. I've read this trope before, yet at the end of the reading my happy book

The Dare has completely upped the level and intensity of this fantastic new series! Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, I was proven so very wrong. Beck and Hallman know how to totally wreck my heart while leaving me a sliver of hope to keep me moving and dreaming. Nothing is as good as devouring one of their stunningly, out of this world stories!! They are life-changing and heart reforming, and I wouldn’t change a single thing about them! #FunFact: I hate/loved this story as much as Ava and Vance hate/loved themselves!!

For my taste, there was entirely too much drama in this story. Like more than necessary to drive the point of this story home. It was problematic for me. Too many times I just couldn’t connect with this story or with Ava and Vance. Because it was SO MUCH. It took me three days to finish. That’s a lifetime for me LOL And here’s the thing that bugged me the most … Vance. So for over 50% of this story (that’s a lie,

Love - hate relationship

Intense and cruel behaviour just to entice revenge for the lie spread some years ago. I have love - hate relationship with this story and it stirred a whole range of emotions in me while reading it, from pity through pain of my heart being broken to overwhelming anger and hurt. There were moments that I wanted to throw my e-reader at the wall in hope for it to hit Vance straight in the head and knock some sense into him. He was so blind with hurt, anger, so stupidly stubb

Okay. So. This book was pretty good, minus a couple of things.

The Good:
- AMAZING groveling. Like, totally worth reading. I cannot read bully romances that have no groveling or shame. This one had the perfect amount, and a little extra kick! The hero's inner dialogue was perfect and it's SO rare that we see this in a bully book. It was refreshing knowing that he showed so much regret for what happened. Usually in these types of stories, the inner dialogue is like "h

When they were young Ava and Vance were the best of friends, almost spending every waking moment together, then one night Ava saw something she was never meant to see...and it changed everything. She found herself moving far away, and Vance found himself leading a completely different life, one where money was plentiful, and he never had to want for anything.

Now five years have passed, they haven't seen nor spoke to each since that life-changing night, and fate is about to reunite them. And it's

Another college romance with the bully always wrong because he is a man (sorry men)! The story starts off with a truth or dare game between two young friends whom were living in the same household as one of the fathers had lost his job. Unfortunately, that was the father of Vance who instead of being grateful for a house to live in decides to have an affair with his friend’s wife, who is the mother of Ava. In a truth or dare gave Ava goes to her parent’s room only to find that sex was happening, ...more

The Dare by J.L. Beck and C. Hallman was an intensely captivating love-hate romance that totally exceeded my every expectation. This writing duo took me on an emotional rollercoaster full of twists and turns that I never wanted to get off. I was so in love this with story that I literally could NOT put it down. Nobody was allowed to bother me while I was reading this. I was so sucked in, I couldn't hear anything or anyone else! Vance & Ava are EVERYTHING!

One game, one secret and the night ended not only their friendship but everything as they knew it.

Distance pulled them apart, but time brought them back together again under forced circumstances.

Ava Wilder’s past and present are about to collide. Vance Preston seems to be angry with just about everyone. He’s all about hate and revenge. This is another case where a man bullies a woman. If you have issues with how women sometimes get treated by men, this is your warning. You have to remember though that this is a work of fiction and there is romance.

It was interesting to see that the parents seemed so self-absorbed that the children seemed more of an afterthought. The story shows how that

If you had read book one in this series, The Bet, then you would know Vance had an appearance at the end of that story. I was intrigued and couldn't wait to read his book after reading its excerpt.

So, Vance and Ava are friends during their middle school. After Vance's father lost his job, they were offered to live with Ava's family. They grew more closer and a budding attraction started. But a night of Truth or Dare game crashed their lives and got them separated. Five years later, Ava went bac

GREAT story with an almost devastating flaw

Let me start by saying I LOVED this story. I HATED the MCs in the beginning, but I couldn't stop reading. My heart broke for Vance, and I legit hated him at times, but like the heroine, I couldn't stop loving him, even when he was vile and cruel. My biggest issue that almost ruined the book: I did NOT like Ava. I despise weak heroines and she is one of the weakest I have ever read. I also hated how she used physical violence four times. She didn't have

This is one seriously messed up story. Even the characters (almost all of them) are messed up except for Ava. I mean this story is so good but these people are so mean, manipulative, liars and twisted.

It's amazing how a childhood dare between two friends could cause such a snowball effect. Vance is such a vile and horrible guy and I was worried he wouldn't wake up, but being at the right place at the right time changed him but is it too late after how horrible he was to his childhood friend who
