"Michael was my love ... the perfect man, the perfect husband. I had the perfect life. And then it all went wrong."
Julia Falconer is an artist married to a successful winemaker in the coastal hinterland of southern Victoria. From the outside, it looks like Julia and Michael have it all ‒ but things are never as they seem. A storm has destroyed a major crop, Michael is devastated, and is taking it out on Julia. And Julia retreats into herself, taking solace in her work, wine ... and the comfort of her friend Christopher.
Having stopped communicating almost entirely with Michael, Julia finds herself grappling with how her feelings towards Christopher are changing. He listens, he cares, he talks. But what does he really want?
Soon Julia will discover how wrong she was about the man she thought she loved ... and the man she really does love.

Wow. Just wow. This book is an intense roller-coaster of emotions and incidents, and I enjoyed every minute of the ride! The author has a very fluid writing style, and the paragraphs and chapters mold beautifully into each other. I loved the exotic locales that posed as backdrops in the story, and the choice of having an artist, a wine producer (I'm sure there's a better word for that) and a pilot, contribute to the ethereal atmosphere that runs through the book. What I liked best, however, was how the author portrayed raw, "real" human emotions in contrast to this surrealness. The length of the book is also just right - neither does it drag out, nor does it rush the storyline. All in all, this was a quick read (finished in two settings), there's quite a bit of suspense to keep you on your toes, and it's very easy to hate and love the characters at the same time! I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a quick, satisfying and exciting read.
Gorgeous locations, interesting, creative characters and a marriage in trouble. I was in! Samantha Wood's lovely easy style takes us effortlessly through the story where we learn how communication - or the lack of - can make or break a relationship. This is terrific Australian fiction, with heart. Enjoy!
4 ½ stars from me. I loved this book - from the title to the cover to the textures in the words. It’s an emotional roller coaster and yet I felt as though I knew Julia & wanted to be there giving her the tough love she needed, pouring her wine & chatting over art. Thanks Samantha... just fabulous.
This book is brilliant, I couldn’t put it down, I had to find out what happened next. Loved it! Thanks to Author Samantha Wood , I cant wait to read your next book. 💕
I thoroughly enjoyed this book; from the moment I saw the gorgeous cover, to the final page. The characters seem truly authentic and highlight just how easily misunderstandings can occur within relationships. It was a lovely reminder that there are two sides to every story and what you think you see/know is not always what is actually unfolding. This book is well crafted and easy to read & one I am absolutely prepared to recommend.
This book is a really good read. The story flows smoothly and I found myself lost in the drama of the 3 main characters. If you like wineries, country vistas, inner city living and romance you will enjoy this book. I look forward to more stories by Samantha Wood.
Samantha Wood did an excellent job on this book.I felt so many different emotions while reading this,And there were so many times I didn't want to put it down I wanted to see what was going to happen next.
