This is an OK romance, and I mostly liked Greg and Renata -- but it irritated me that she kept so many secrets from him. This book gets 3.5 stars from me, rounded down to 3 stars.
It really bothered me that Renata kept so many secrets from Greg. I get that she couldn't tell him everything at first, but after they fell in love -- she really needed to start sharing. I won't give spoilers, but there was so much angst because of her secrets, and there really didn't need to be. It really bothers me when authors do this, as it seems they are doing it just to add unnecessary angst.
I also thought the competition between Renata and Clem (the other reality show director) was a bit ridiculous. I get that she needed the money, but it just wasn't believable that Clem (and their boss) would have let her get it that way. It was probably added just to make Renata's boss seem more likable -- and like he had a heart -- but I just didn't buy it.
One problem I have with all of this author's series is that there is so long between books. Lots of times I have to go back and reread some of the earlier books in a series, simply because it has been so long that I don't remember all the characters. That is frustrating, and I wish the books in a series could be published closer together.
My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
