TW: SA. Do NOT recommend, this should be zero stars. I didn’t actually read this book, I only looked through a few pages at a thrift store and saw what I would call standard evangelical marriage advice. Meaning: harmful, with zero research or data to back it up, along with some Bible verses taken out of context. Of course right after the submission chapter, is the sex section. I found the chapter about what to do if there’s been abuse. This book assumed that any abuse would have been by her father and only addresses how to handle that. They suggest confronting him, then sorting out your feelings. The whole reason for this is (of course) so that she can still fulfill her wifely duties. They suggest repeating a mantra “Although I may feel terrified, sexual closeness to my husband is God’s will for me.” (Yes, that is actual quote from the book, I snapped a pic of it to reference.) Repeat this to yourself 10 minutes daily for 30 days, and literally scream at yourself in your head to “stop” when thinking about that myth of your abuse and terror. I found this at a thrift store and instead of spending $7 so I could throw it in the garbage where it belongs, I asked the worker to throw it away.
