Claudia and Jack already have a strong and satisfying business relationship, but when Jack is offered a job that will take him to the other side of the world, it throws a new and urgent light on their mutual attraction.
Claudia's unsatisfactory relationship with her husband and Jack's failing marriage propel them into a sudden and intense affair just before he leaves for Singapore.
They promise they will speak often and meet again as soon as they can. They also commit to be completely open and honest with each other.
The brief, but intensely erotic experience with Jack releases a tumult of sexual desire within Claudia, and with Jack unavailable, she will need to look elsewhere to explore her boundaries.
Claudia's journey into sex, submission and sensuality is matched by Jack's adventures in dominance overseas. They share their most intimate discoveries over long-distance phone calls, but will their explicit honesty bring them closer together... or tear them apart?
The Water's Edge is a steamy erotic fiction that delves into relationships, love, boundaries, self discovery, sexual awakening and long distance relationship.
Claudia and Jack are having a steamy affair together. However Jack is leaving to Singapore for work and leaving behind Claudia. They have an instant sexual chemistry and Jack ignites things in Claudia she has never felt before... not even with her husband
Not wanting their affair to end. They promise each other to have an open and honest relationship, meaning they are free to be sexually involved with other people, providing they tell each other!
This is all well and good, but feelings get in the way, as does jealousy. Can they make it work long distance or are they just not meant to be together? Either way Claudia is going to have fun finding out!
This isn't a book I would normally read but the blurb and cover really drew me in. However for me this book took a fair bit of time to get into and I found this hindered me connecting with the characters earlier on. My only other niggle was that at times it was a struggle to distinguish which of the characters the plot was referring too and I had to re-read some of the dialogue to work it out. Although it did get easier the more I delved into the story and connected with the characters.
The sexual scenes are tastefully done, they are steamy, hot and will leave you a lil hot under the collar. As with all erotic fiction the sex scenes are a main feature in this book, and as I said previously this is a story where the main character Claudia goes on a journey of sexual awakening and discovery, so be prepared for things like BDSM.
Overall The Water's Edge is a sizzling and steamy erotic story. The plot was racy and evocative, the characters were well written and I'm intrigued to read the next installment!

Review update: On rereading this I noticed a lot more flaws in the writing. For instance, the dialogue is unnatural at times and doesn't always make it clear who is talking. It is very "to the point" and has minimal descriptions of characters and settings so a lot of the world feels quite one dimensional. It is odd how little Claudia's children are featured in this. So much so that they are referred to as "the girl" and "the boy" rather than giving them names or stating their ages. This is probably more of a 2 star read. I have the next book in the series already so will read that one but I'm not overly excited to pick it up.
Original review below: I was intrigued by this book as it is plot driven rather than just erotic for the sake of being so.
The Water's Edge follows Claudia and Jack, who are close friends as well as colleagues, starting a romantic and sexual relationship. When Jack leaves to work overseas they remain in contact and promise to be open with each other about their relationships with other people and the boundaries they test through them.
The development of their romantic relationship was handled well in the book and felt believable as they already had an intimate foundation as close friends. I enjoyed seeing Claudia grow in confidence and discover new aspects of herself throughout the book. This was well paced in the story and felt fitting for the character. I would have liked to have seen more development of both Claudia and Jack's domestic lives e.g. their children and previous relationships, but as this is the first in The Claudia Series, that will hopefully come in the next book.
I liked that this book had an engaging plot alongside the explicit content and I was invested in these character's journeys of self discovery and the growing love between them.
I am looking forward to reading the other books in the series and seeing how the story continues.

“You will stand with him at The Water’s Edge, you must decide together whether you will swim”
The Water's Edge is the first book in The Claudia Series and follows Claudia and Jack as their working relationship develops. Jack's failing marriage and Claudia’s unhappiness in her own marriage propels them into a sudden and intense affair just before he leaves for Singapore. The book begins with the introduction into Jack & Claudia’s affair, a few weeks before Jack is given the opportunity to relocate for business purposes, the book continues to follow their relationship as it develops, even whilst Jack is in Singapore.
Claudia’s brief sexual experiences with Jack open her eyes to new desires and experiences that she continues whilst he is abroad. However, with Jack being so far away and her husband showing no signs of interest in her she will need to look elsewhere to explore her boundaries. This leads the book to concentrate on Claudia and her journey of sexual discovery, she experiences several new things such as an introduction to BDSM and sex parties. Jack and Claudia (under Claudia’s suggestion) agree to remain open and honest about each other’s experiences whilst they are thousands of miles apart. They being to share their most intimate discoveries over long-distance phone calls, but will their explicit honesty bring them closer together or tear them apart?
I found that this book is very highly sex orientated, with a sex scene on pretty much every other page, there are numerous erotic scenes and scenarios which involve a lot of sexual description, but this is to be expected as the book is an erotic novel, and the plot is a journey of sexual discovery. I really struggled to connect with Claudia in the beginning as the idea of her cheating on her husband really bothered me (but this is a personal feeling) However once I realised the extent to which her marriage had failed, I understood.
The only real issue I had with Claudia was her detachment from her children, referring to them as “boy” and “girl”, I feel like using the children’s names could have made it more realistic. I feel that Claudia’s character development is really well written, and it feels as if you are on her journey alongside her, however Jack’s character did come across a little stereotypical and hypocritical, for example it was okay for him to have other sexual experiences with other woman but the minute Claudia admitted to hers he became quite jealous. I did find his character development good too, and the relationship development between the two of them was very well written and engrossing. I want to know if they make it as a couple!
The only real issue I had with this book is that it is difficult in places to work out who is the owner of which dialogue, which after you learn the characters behaviours it becomes clear who is who, it is just a little bit of struggle in the beginning.
The book did end on a bit of a cliff-hanger, as you still are not sure if they have fully made it into a relationship, and I am keen to read the sequel to find out whether they have or not, and if Claudia has managed to add anything else to her growing repertoire.
I would say that this book is for a mature audience (18+) due to the language and storyline and would recommend this to anyone interested in erotica and self-discovery.
Warning, this book is intended to be an erotic novel. It is advised that no persons under the age of 18 reads this book. The content of the story is very graphic with some strong language. Some readers might be offended by the nature of the book.
I’m not sure how I feel about this book. It’s not that I didn’t enjoy the story itself, I just found that the characters had a very personal relationship where they relied for emotional support and trusted each other, but they spoke to each other in a rather impersonal and formal manner. I think in situations that were very intimate, it made me feel a little uncomfortable- especially when Claudia is trying new things for the first time.
At times I struggled to distinguish which character was talking, however I think as you grow through the story, you get accustomed to the language that the two main character use to converse with each other.
I think the character growth is really important in this book. Claudia discovers herself sexually, yet it doesn’t come across as her as a character being naive or any less important than Jack.
I think this genre has its many issues with great, in- depth writing. I think that because it’s largely about the sex, authors forget to write about the relationship and the character development. In my opinion Morton did this really well.
For me, it’s a one time read. I enjoyed it, but I’m not likely to revisit it.
Thank you to Martin Morton and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to review this book in exchange for my honest review.
The story starts quite abruptly, mid-conversation so at first I was confused but I came to realise this was symbolic of the relationship between Claudia and Jack. The story amps up pretty quickly. I like a good romance and erotic scenes don't bother me at all, I think when done well they can really bring a lot to the story and these scenes were 100% done well. There is a lot of sexual discovery by Claudia and this is done very well however perhaps a little rushed in places. Often when there are graphic sexual scenes the story can get a bit lost but at the heart of all of Claudia's experiences is her feelings for Jack growing and her discovery, not only of her sexual ide tiny but her sense of self and womanly identity as something other than unhappy wife and mother. The story had a really good pace, I finished it in 2 sittings which rarely happens! I cant wait to read more in this series and by this author!
As the story begins there is not much revealed about the beginnings of the relationship between Claudia and Jack but their relationship develops quickly in the story. It is almost immediately evident that Claudia’s feeling far exceed those of Jack but as the story progresses you get the impression that his feelings also start to align with hers. Jack originally comes across as simply wanting the physical side of their relationship juxtapositional with the emotional connection that Claudia displays. During the novel it was pleasing to see how Claudia’s character developed and how she learnt more about herself with Jack’s encouragement.
I found that once I started this book I couldn’t put it down I was so heavily invested in the story that I didn’t want to stop reading! I am intrigued to see how Claudia and Jack’s relationship develops and changes in the other books of the series.
It took me a few chapters to get used to this book as from the beginning it jumps straight in with the two main characters' affair. However if you carry on reading it begins to develop the characters' stories and you learn more about them. At first I also struggled with figuring out which character was speaking but this quickly changed as I got further into the book as I understood the characters use of language. This book is very graphic which is to be expected with the genre it is, however this was my first erotic fiction read so I was a bit shocked at first however it is very well written. I did really enjoy the fast paced story behind this book and I am excited to see the characters further develop in the next book in this series.
This is the first Book of The Claudia Series, and what a start it was 🥵 there is no exaggeration to this book being Erotic Fiction!
The book is really well written. But I think the story was multi-faceted, and about more than sex and the adventures they had with that. Aside from the sex, the story was deep (no pun intended) and meaningful, and was actually about 2 people coming together, working through obstacles and finding happiness. Especially Claudia, the female lead character. She was in a loveless marriage but was able to find herself, find confidence when she had been pushed down mentally and almost physically.
My Favourite Line is - “You will stand with him at the water’s edge, you must decide together whether you will swim”
I think this was an interesting story from the perspective that the author takes the reader along on a sometimes confusing discovery of self and sexual exploration for the protagonist Claudia. There was a bit of confusion when I could not distinguish which character was providing dialogue. I think the story moved well. The characters were very well developed. I would have liked some clarity during the novel's opening. I think the erotic elements were also well written. I would recommend those who enjoy erotica that includes an edge. 3.5 rolled to a 4
Jack and Claudia have a wonderful business relationship but when he is offered a job in Singapore, they cross they line into an intense affair. Neither happy in their relationships they begin to explore their sexual desires with others and share the experience with other. Fast-paced, sizzling read with loads of emotion, drama and steam. Great characters with lots of depth and an entertaining story. I liked it.
Claudia and Jack are work colleagues. Both are married and clearly unhappy in their marriages. As far as work colleagues go it’s clear that there’s a spark between them from the beginning and an unspoken attraction that they’ve never acted upon. When Jack takes a job on the other side of the world, they realise that it’s now or never. Jack and Claudia start an affair that will change Claudia’s life forever. The only issue is that Jack has to go and he isn’t exactly lay being exclusive while he’s away. So that leaves Claudia no choice but to look elsewhere.
As the story progresses it’s easy to see who is the most experienced and at times I did feel that Claudia was more invested in their relationship than Jack was. Claudia seemed to have feelings for Jack that were more than just physical and she appeared to be emotionally attached to him. At times I was not a fan of Jack as it wasn’t clear how he truly felt about Claudia. Was it just physical or something more? it was difficult to tell, but my questions were answered by the end of the book. It was good to see Claudia develop as a character as the book progressed. She started off as very apprehensive but then grows into a confident character who knows what she wants. This was a good read but it would have been great to read more about Jack and Claudia’s relationship before they began their affair. As this is only book one in the series I am intrigued as to what awaits Claudia next.
A steamy read that’ll be enjoyed by any fan of fifty shades!
I received a gifted copy of this book for an honest review.
Unfortunately did not finish at chapter 2. The lack of quotation marks was weird, the characters blocky and robotic, and the first sex scene was quick. The scene was barely a scene at all and the dialogue during was ridiculous.
The writer allows you to imagine the characters very well and understand their development throughout the book. The pace of the story is good and keeps you wanting more. The book is graphic and this is to be expected due to its genre and although this is not my usual type of book to read I would be interested to see how their relationship unfolds in the next book
