I haven’t loved a book this hard in a long time…

When they die in a tragic accident, Jack and Anna travel together through the afterlife on a quest to discover what “the beyond” will be for them, while their family members are left to deal with a life without Jack and Anna in it. Listed as a YA contemporary fantasy, Emma G. Rose’s debut novel introduces creatively original ideas on how the afterlife might be experienced by those embraced by Death’s arms.

I loved Emma’s interpretation of life and afterlife and the internal struggles. This story is a lovely way of sorting it all out, with a little bit of adventure thrown in.

Emma G. Rose has a unique style, caring deeply for her characters but putting them through all kinds of heaven and hell. This book could be read by a philosophical adult or a thoughtful twelve-year-old and both would have a fulfilling experience and likely come away with very different messages. Confronting death is not as easy as TV and movies would have us think, where the bad guys just get burned and the good guys linger with sweet goodbyes. Death is both personal and impersonal, coming for a ...more

This is one of those books where I finish it and I don't know how I feel yet. Which is such an oddly good thing. There are so many great features of this book, I don't know where to begin - the humor, the cast, the story itself, the author's representation of the afterlife. Oh, and Ella's POV had me close to sobbing at one point. Emma G. Rose took a tough topic to write or read about and handled it beautifully. ...more

This book follows the journey of Jack and Anna, after an tragic car accident. There stuck somewhere between life and death as they experience a journey through the afterlife. This book has personally helped me through complicated grief, and brought in a new perspective on so many things in life in general.

What an amazing read! Jack and Anna’s journey through the afterlife is as you would imagine, intense and emotional but also fun and delightful! The journey through different areas keeps your interest throughout the whole story, wondering where they will end up next! I think everyone can relate to this story of death, love and friendship.
