John West is a Navy Captain who has been through hell and back - and on more than one level. For starters, he was deployed for years with a team of dedicated soldiers who worked feverishly to bring down the world's most wanted terrorist. In so doing, John was forced to leave the love of his life, Ava, behind. When hand-picked for this special assignment, John could not have any personal ties, especially a significant other. So John could never tell Ava anything, including the fact that he might ...more

ONE YEAR HOME consumed me from the very first page and I could not put it down! Needless to say, my husband was constantly yelling at me to stop reading! Obviously he has never read a Marie Force novel because as I quickly remembered, once you start there is no way to stop. I want to devour all of her stories, each and every one of them as she just crushed my heart and left me crying. ONE YEAR HOME did not disappoint. Marie Force you owe me another box of tissues! I waited for over eight moths for this one to come out! I just knew it would be intense, and it sure didn’t disappoint! There were four POV’s... I was kind of shocked when two of them were introduced! What a tangled web! And whew made for some serious angst!

“One Year Home,” the second book that follows “Five Years Gone,” which could have probably stood to be a duet, as these books should be read together.

5 Star Review of One Year Home (Navy Captain John West #2) by Marie Force

Once in a while a book comes along that blows your mind, during and after you have finished it. Five Years Gone did that for me and I wasn’t sure how I would feel reading One Year Home. I needn’t have worried, this book was everything I hoped it would be and so much more. I was riveted from the first chapter to the last.

Returning home after many years on deployment, is bittersweet for Navy Captain John West. Having lost the

One Year Home by Marie Force is the happy for the third character in a top read of mine from 2018 Five Years Gone.
If you had not read Five Year Gone, top reading this review and go immerse yourself is a story that will take a hold of your heart. A truly unique story; written with pure literacy genius.
I adored that One Year Home did not take place in a vacuum; it showed the continued impact of John's return. John's world is so much different than the one he left behind after a major terror attack

Beautiful tragedy inspires heartstopping romance. One Year Home continues the journey of John West as he transitions from the casualities of war into a heartbroken civilian. After surviving a nightmare, he returned home to a shattered dream. When a sorrowful past points him toward a brighter present, can John give his heart a chance to love again? Force doesn't do easy. Julianne and John are a complicated combination. Linked by heartache, haunted by attraction and held back by family connections ...more

(Warning: spoilers to the first book Five Years Gone...)
Five Years Gone was one of my favorite books of last year. I was not sure if John's continuing story was going to be able to live up to it, but was excited to read more. And I was immediately immersed back into his world. The author did a good job reminding us of any details that were pertinent so we could just jump right back in. And I enjoyed this installment as much as the first.

Oh my gosh!!! My heart literally felt like it was breaking in this book!! I felt for each one of these characters!! John, Jules, Ava and Eric had to work through so many things. SO many emotions, so many feelings.

I started this book and couldn't really adult that much because I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. Were they going to get their happy ending? Was it going to be too much for each couple?

Was Jules actually going to do something for herself instead of what everyone else thou

Simply put: One Year Home made my heart happy. Through all of the ups and downs, angst and darkness, unexpected love and insurmountable odds, this powerful novel pulled at my heartstrings and left me breathless.

I have been waiting for this sequel since reading Five Years Gone–which, by the way, broke my heart into pieces and put it back together by the end. The setup for One Year Home, just knowing that wounded

I’m a huge Marie Force fan. Maybe not a superfan because I haven’t read all of her books…but I have read almost all of them. And there’s a reason I’ve read so many. She does a great job writing a variety of tropes within the romance genre. One of her books will usually suit just about any mood I’m in. So…are you in the mood for some really angsty romance? If you aren’t, you need to skip this book. If you are––read on!

Though this story can technically be read as a stand alone, I would highly recommend you start by reading Five Years Gone, as it picks up where it left off. It will make a better reading experience.

He had no idea how long he would be gone, but that was the choice he made, knowing he was putting his country first. It took over five years to complete his mission. The only thing keep

I wasn’t sure what to expect with Five Years Gone’s sequel but I was fascinated! I loved Five Years Gone and I always felt that poor John shouldn’t have ended alone and shattered like he did. He was a hero, he loved Ava so completely and lived for her all the time he was away. He definitely deserved his own HEA and his story was fantastic!

The beginning of the story shows a morose and depressed John West. Never mind he’s a hero, everyone wants to know him and thank him for the huge service he did

John West doesn’t want to move forward from the heartbreak of finding the love of his life married to another man during the 6 years he was away. But there are so many people, from the Navy to the media, who want to hear John’s story, who want a piece of him that he can’t disappear to wallow like he wishes he could. Hiring Julianne, his former love’s new sister-in-law to manage the media requests is partly a good idea, partly a recipe for disaster: they are both determined to not like the other. ...more

John West needs help from a person with a particular skillset. He’s a man with some justifiable attitude. Julianne Tilden has a tough and challenging road ahead of her. Even though this man may be a secondary character, David Muncie has an integral part to this story.

The author does a great job in conveying the frustration and sadness that John feels about what’s going on in his life. She makes it very tough to keep yourself detached from what he’s been through. The next stage i

Returning to a hero's welcome, but having lost the one thing that kept him going for six long years has made John West an angry, bitter man. With nothing to look forward to, he's waiting for the time that he can disappear quietly from the limelight, and just exist. Before he can do that, though, John has obligations to fulfill, and not even his cranky 'leave me alone' attitude will keep Julianne Tilden, his newly assigned PR rep from making sure that he does.

This book is definitely one of my favourite reads for this year. It's kind of a duet, the first book, Five Years Gone is about Ava and I can't imagine anyone reading either of these books and not wanting to jump straight into the other one. One Year Home by Marie Force is an emotional contemporary, military romance told in multiple POVs. Although the story can be read as a standalone, it is a sequel, so Five Years Gone should be read first.

One Year Home continues the story of military hero John West who we met in Five Years Gone. He is a man who did his duty for his country only for it to cost him everything he held dear. Thank you Marie Force for giving me John's book! After reading Five Years Gone, I was needing the sweet, broken man to get his happy. And I devoured One Year Home.

The more I got to know John, the more I wanted to wrap him up and show him the joy that can be found in the everyday. Thankfully he had Muncie and Julianne to help pull him out of his funk. Mostly Julianne. She was brightness and joy and hope and everything John didn't want in his life, but she was exactly he needed. She saw John for a

I've so been waiting for this book! One Year Home is the highly anticipated follow-up to Marie Force's beloved Five Years Gone novel that stole all of our hearts last year. It's a reawakening of a lost soul with a chunk of forbidden romance added into the mix and quite the emotional roller coaster.

After reading Five Years Gone, I had mixed feelings about a sequel. Part of me wanted to know what happened to John and part of me was content with the way the story ended.

That said, I truly enjoyed One Year Home. Ms Force did an excellent job of exploring John’s emotional state in the aftermath of the events in Five Years Gone (if you haven’t read it, you need to) and it was easy to both sympathize and empathize with him.

One Year Home is about Navy Captain John West and coming home after 5 years to find out that everything has changed in his absence. But the biggest one is the fact that the girl he left behind 5 years ago, without telling her anything, had fallen in love with someone else and has got married, but that’s not all that changed John's life. He has lost part of his leg, and he was outed as a SEAL by the terrorist he was fighting against, and now he is being made into the poster child for the navy.
