Faye Townsend has planned what she thinks will be the perfect surprise trip for her husband Jake's birthday. She's booked a large house overlooking the sea in the seaside town of Swanage in Dorset where he grew up and invited Jake's sister and family along with her own young son Dylan. However, once they get there Jake is sullen and withdrawn and clearly not happy to be back in Swanage. The holiday mood does not improve and they decide to go home early but the day they are due to leave Jake and ...more

I've read almost every book by this author, so I was excited to get my hands on her latest, The Marriage Betrayal. The premise sounded intriguing and Boland has a knack for exploring what happens to ordinary people in less than ordinary situations. It wasn't quite as gripping as I hoped it would be, and I guessed the ending and a number of twists and turns, which slightly took away from my reading pleasure. It also bothered me that the word "mousy" was used rather often to describe wome

Wow, wow, wow, wow! Shalini Boland is one hell of a story teller. I think I may still be in shock after reading this. I really don’t know how she does it but yet again she has totally knocked my socks off.

What should have been a lovely family holiday turns out to be Faye’s worst nightmare. Her husband and son both disappearing. Luckily for her they went with her sister in law and her family so she has someone to lean on.

The story flicks from present day to the past when Jake and his sister were

I came across the writing of Shalini Boland about a year ago and can't get enough of her books. Her books are full of suspense and I frequently finish them in one sitting due to the excitement she generates throughout. This one was much the same, fairly simple plot but an entertaining psychological thriller.

The Marriage Betrayal by Shalini Boland was a psychological thriller that was hard to put down.
Faye has planned a surprise trip for her husband Jake's birthday. They are going away with their young son and Jake sister, her husband and their two daughters.
Jake and his son go out one morning and disappear. The police think that they may have had an accident.
This story has many twists and turns.

Wow! I have never read a Shalini Boland book that I have not loved, this is no exception! The Marriage Betrayal is one twisted psychological thriller that I could not put down.

Faye surprises her husband Jake on his birthday with a trip to his childhood town. The gorgeous town lined by cliffs and ocean seemed like a fantastic getaway to Faye. Except her husband seems less than thrilled to be returning to the close knit town he grew up in. Does he have something to hide in his past? When he and hi

Another fantastic book from Shalini Boland. As usual the story was fast paced and addictive and I read it quickly. If you have ever read anything by this author you know that you are always in for a twisty adventure with an ending that you won't see coming. The Marriage Betrayal is no exception.

Faye has planned a family summer holiday back to where her husband Jake grew up. Along for the trip is Jakes sister and her family. But all is not as she had imagined and Jake is not enjoying being back h

Shalini Boland is THE Queen of Twists and Psychological Thrillers! 👑 And this new book is Pure Shalini crazy! I loved every word, page and paragraph! I was hooked and I did get emotional reading it.
This was a definite “nothing is what you think it is” story. I admit, it fooled me, but i’m glad it did.
Put this on your summer must read shelf now!

I just loved this book. Shilina is one of my best authors so always excited for a new books
Some times it’s hard to keep the pace of keeping books interesting form a author and so far for me personally, each book just gets better and better

The story goes from past to present.

I really loved reading this book. A nice flow to it. I was interested the whole time of reading and was shocked and kind boggling with some of the story. I really would recommend this book and her other books

This is the 5th book I have read by Shalini Boland and it did not disappoint. I received an ARC from Netgalley for an honest opinion and boy this story through me for a loop.

It starts off simple enough. Jake and Faye go on holiday with their son Dylan; taking Jake's sister Lainie and her husband and two girls with them. But their holiday is set back in their hometown when they were kids. A lot of secrets are there so the book goes back and forth from now to then. But it is easy to follow. Before

Omg,this book is unbelievable,a fast paced, roller coaster ride, packed full of so many twists and turns that by the time the reader gets to the shocking conclusion, you are felling seriously dizzy and in desperate need of a lie down in a dark room.

When it’s her husband’s 34th birthday, Faye gets the bright idea to surprise her husband, Jake, with a trip back home to his hometown of Swanage. It’ll be a family vacation with their son Dylan, Jake’s sister Lainey, her husband Tom and their two daughters. Lainey and Jake haven’t been back to Swanage for almost two decades and Faye feels this is the perfect time to revisit where they grew up.

Faye rents a victorian cottage by the ocean, in the hopes that they’ll enjoy the sun and sand. But when

I love Boland's books so was excited for this one and it did not disappoint! When Faye plans to surprise her husband, Jake with a trip to his hometown for his birthday, she has no idea why he seems sullen and uninterested when they arrive. And then when he disappears after an outing with their young son the next day, Faye is frantic and worries that something sinister has happened to them. Another gripping thriller from Shalini Boland. The Marriage Betrayal isn't just a twisty psychological thriller, it's a story which delves into domestic abuse and the lengths a mother would go to to save her child. Faye is an excellent character, and, without spoilers, I was immediately drawn into the web that is her life.

Shalini is an absolute pro, able to grip the reader from the word go, but she is also excellent at dealing with very real and emotional themes. Thrilling, twisty, and incredib

Faye surprises her husband Jake by booking a surprise holiday in his home town for his birthday along with their 6 year old son Dylan, her brother and Jake’s sister Lainey. Unfortunately her surprise goes down like a lead balloon as for some reason Jake and Lainey are anything but happy to be back where they grew up.

I was never quite sure where this book was heading and that’s a great thing! I was guessing all along the way and for me that’s part of the fun, when reading this genre. ⠀

Nothing is given away and nothing is held back either. Hard to explain and I’m not sure how she does it but it’s sooo damn good. ⠀

Twists arise in this tale of a marriage shrouded in secrets. Faye decides to surprise her husband with a trip back to the town he grew up in. Along for the trip is their six year old son, Dylan, and her brother and sister-in-law. The trip doesn't get off to a great start with rainy weather and her husband's increasingly downcast mood. Things get worse when her husband and son go missing after a dolphin-spotting trip. With the police involved, Faye needs to examine all she knows about her husband ...more

There are a lot of things that I really liked about this book. The story is an intriguing, well-put-together psychological thriller with several unexpected twists and turns that kept me staying up late at night to read. There isn’t any swearing—which seems to be virtually unheard of anymore, and that is something I like, as well as many others whose opinions I read in reviews. Also--drum roll please! the author didn’t throw in any of those moment-by-moment sex scenes, which I really dislike in t ...more

Be careful who you trust!
What appears to be a close knit family is far from perfect.
Jake and sis Lainy grew up in this quaint seaside town so why not go to re-visit on vacay with his wife and son?
Then the unthinkable happens as Jake and Dylan magically disappear!
What could've happened?
It turns out there's numerous twist and turns that I can't discuss but suffice to see it heats up the action quite nicely.
Faye is now being questioned but perhaps there's more to this story than meets the eye!

The Marriage Betrayal quickly draws you in and doesn't let go for a great ride/read.

Don't want to say too much about this book, as I am afraid I will give things away.

Many twists and turns as Faye and the police search for her missing her husband and son.

Be sure to clear your calendar before starting The Marriage Betrayal.

This was my first book by Shalini Boland so I am off to catch up on her other novels.

Thanks to Net Galley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read The Marriage Betrayal.

Shalini Boland is THE Queen of psychological thriller twists! I don't think there has been a book of hers I haven't thoroughly enjoyed. She draws you in right from the very first page and you can't put it down till you've finished. Of course I did take one break to make dinner, but after that I delved straight back into it...and didn't return to the land of the living until I'd finished!

The Marriage Betrayal is like liqueur chocolate. You think you know what you’ve picked, but the scrumptious flavours melting on your tongue take you by surprise. The first layer is sweet. It takes its time and tickles your taste buds. The second part is crunchy, it plays with your teeth, it adds an edge before releasing the explosive and unexpected cherry, bittersweet and irresistible.

I’m a big Shalini Boland fan having been recommended her books many times by Gail Shaw a member of TBC. She writes fabulous psychological thrillers and The Marriage Betrayal is no different. It’s a gripping and addictive read that I flew through in one tension filled sitting.

Shalini Boland is one of my favorite authors. I fell in love with her writing when I first read The Girl from the Sea a few years back. Since then, I have had a great relationship with all her books and her latest one, is no exception.
