I think that this book was worth almost failing my exam for.
I was so looking forward to reading this book. Unfortunately, i got it on the day before my final exam. I was like “i’m just gonna check it out. See if it’s good. Make sure that it’s worth the wait.” And you know wha ...more
Ella Maise has done a fantastic job. There is no way to read this story and not feel a thing. I don't want to give much away but this book is about the strength of love. Despite deceit and hopelessness, love has an amazing power to heal.
Now this is honestly my first venture reading EM and I'm glad I did cause what excellent writing!
This book was emotional, heartbreaking, and had me on the edge of my seat until the very end. Jack and Rose’s love story was engaging and he ...more
"I still couldn’t believe she had forgiven me without making me work for it more."
“My husband was perfect. With all his arrogance and prickliness, Jack Hawthorne was perfect for me.
He wasn’t what I’d had in mind or even what I’d wanted for myself, but he was perfect and already mine.”
I am a huge Ella Maise fan and when I saw she was releasing a new book, I would’ve done anything to get my hands on a copy. Marriage for One was definitely a highly anticipated read for me this year and the wait was long and agonizing. When I finally got my chance to read it, I dropped everyt ...more
I was ruined.”
I fell in love with Ella Maise’s writing after reading The Hardest Fall last year. If you have been around enough, you know that already. Basically, because I couldn’t shut up about it. Dylan Reed and Ella Maise were one of my favourite surprises of 2018. It’s funny how this works sometimes, you pick a book by a new author and bang, you are suddenly certain you’ll pick up every book that comes ...more

-He looked amazing when he frowned- which happened often, as I could attest to- and I was starting to like that expression on him more and more. He didn't need the frown to make him look all intense and broody, but it definitely worked in his favor.

I think romance genre is where second to Facebook comment section one loses faith in humanity.
The premise of this book was NOT ok. Clearly that’s a personal opinion before people jump to strangle me. You who don’t share my opinion have clearly rated this book higher.
I found this premise disturbing. Why is it ok or acceptable for men to manipulate and then stage women’s life “for their own good”? And then praised by authors and readers. Same readers who wou ...more
Marriage For One is one of the most successfully done "fake marriage/relationships" romances I've read in a while. It was successful in the fact that it really was a slow burn, so it was believable, and it also had all the growing pains that everyone loves to read about in "fake relationship" trope books.
I ultimately gave this 4/5 stars because the big "reveal" lets call it - felt a little too unbelievable for me, which led to the whole confrontation being lackluster. I ...more
Ella knocked it out of the park with MARRIAGE FOR ONE. It was everything I was hoped it would be and more.
I literally went back to reread certain scenes after I finished the book because I wasn’t quite ready to let these characters go. I’m still not ready to let them go, actually. Jack and Rose are ALL I THINK ABOUT.
These two are my top favorite couple ...more
I'm absolutely in the minority with this story, but I didn't completely love this one.
The way this started out felt fake and unbelievable. Jack proposing a fake marriage in order for Rose to get her coffee shop for a very short time, and Rose jumped at the chance. Her actions made her look superficial and material, but it got this MOC story started. Shortly after the marriage, Jack was distant towards Rose. Only giving her brief replies when she'd talk to him, leaving her alone for a while right ...more
‘Cold and distant was what I’d grown up with, and cold and distant was what I had become.’
Marriage for One by Ella Maise landed on our kindles and we dove straight in as she is one of our most beloved Authors who writes such wonderful stories from the heart. She never fails to grab us with her words, her characters and her stories. Ella Maise writes slow burn romance with fabulous humour, high emotion and scorching heat. What’s not to fall in love with?

Not sure what to say really.
I read every single word of this almost 500 page book and I’m still not entirely sure what happened. It was a major slow burn, but even when it did get going, I didn’t quite believe it.
I wanted so badly to love this one, and there were certain parts of it that I did enjoy, but I found Jack to be cold and clinical and I never warmed up to him.
A marriage of convenience romance that spoke to my slow burn loving heart! I'm going to go out on a limb here and say this is probably one of the best slow burn romances I've ever read. I'm a huge MZ fan btw so that's saying a whole lot.

From the moment I heard about this book I just knew I would fall in love with this story. And I'm so glad that I was right!
Until this book, I'd never read a book by this author before. She was one I'd heard about, especially her popular "The Hardest Fall" but I was just so worried about the hype that I never ended up reading anything of her. And then I heard about this book, and I just fell in love with everything about it. I loved the cover, but I especially loved the concept/plot. I a ...more
This was the PERFECT read for me! Shoots straight into best reads for the year.
I love love love plots which involve arranged marriage; especially when it's a chatty, funny, sweet girl to a surly, quiet yet hot man. The progress of their relationship and feelings for each other felt real and I just loved how sweet Jack turned out to be, despite always choosing isolation instead of mingling around.
In saying that, said protagonist is usually very self aware of this manipulation, feels guilt to an extent but continues to pursues h anyway until eventual confrontation.

One of my TOP FAVOURITE BOOK of this year.
Marriage For One by Ella Maise was a breath taking, addictive tale of romance about two strangers in a complicated situation that leads them to one solution "Marriage".

I loved Jack Hawthorne. He was a great hero for me. And the heroine Rose was perfect too. She had a spine and she was such an awesome person. They get married for convenience so she can keep her dream of a coffee shop alive. Her cousins were so mean and tried to break the deal she had made with her uncle. The Hero says marry me in name only and we will keep the shop and in two years we will divorce. Little did she know that Jack was infatuated with her and just wanted a chance w ...more
