Ok, I think this is my new favorite in the series. There were so many good things about Ball and Everly's story. Everly is a kick butting police officer and you do get to see her skills in this. I love a heroine who can hold her own.

Ball had me a little nervous at first. He is very obviously jaded about women but the author did such a good job of turning him around. It was subtle and realistic when he realized that just maybe he wasn't thinking full picture based off his past experiences. He

The Mountain Mercenaries has been my favorite series from Susan Stoker and I've loved every book and every character in it. Ball was a little hard to gauge up until now but I loved being able to dig deeper into his character. It took some time for him to open up to Everly and to see that she was capable as a partner and the journey those discoveries took him on was brilliant.

Everly was a kickass heroine and I loved getting to see how tough she was throughout this

Feel good romantic suspense...

This author’s stories are chock-a-block full of strong men and women which has made the Mountain Mercenaries series so fun to read. This time out saw Ball and Everly battling the unknown in their frantic search for Elise.

I loved how Elise was portrayed – a teenager dealing with all the usual growing up issues plus a wee bit more. She was smart but still a kid and searching for answers in all the places, including where she shouldn’t. How it was dealt with felt true

Defending Everly is book 5 in the Mountain Mercenaries by Susan Stoker.
Even though it’s my first read in this series, I didn’t feel lost when reading this book. But I definitely will go and start reading this series because I want to know more of them.
Loved it. Loved that Everly is a strong brave heroine. She was kick@ss!!

Don’t let the title fool you. Everly can and does defend herself. She is a police/SWAT officer and enlists assistance of the Mountain Mercenaries to locate her missing teenaged sister. Ball has had negative experiences in his past when working with women and is biased. Everly quickly and effortlessly changes his mind and his heart. Their romance is one of mature adults and leaves the reader full of hope. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are ...more

This is book 5 in the Mountain Mercenaries series but it can be read as a standalone. Everly and Kannon are looking for her sister after she went missing. They need to hurry because the time to find her is running out. Is she a runaway or is it something more serious? The characters were so real and the storyline was well done. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat and you won’t want to put it down.

I received an ARC from NetGalley and I am voluntarily leaving a honest review.

This is the story of Mountain Mercenary Kannon Black aka Ball, and Colorado Springs SWAT Everly Adams.

Everly's 15 year old half-sister is missing she disappeared from Los Angelos without a trace and the window to find her is closing fast.

Ball along with the other Mountain Mercenaries are going to help find her sister. She and Ball got off on the wrong foot. Will they be able to forget about the animosity they feel towards each other and find her sister?

Another great story by Susan Stoker I love

This is Everly Adams and Kannon “Ball” Black’s story; book 5 in the Mountain Mercenaries series. A standalone, happily ever after, no cheating action romance with sizzle.
Two people who started off on the wrong foot, look beyond first impression and learn what each is really made of. The story was well developed, great characterization with lots of action and sizzle.
I have read all in this series so far and can’t wait for the next!
Although this is a standalone, the Epilogue is a big tease,

This is book 5 in the Mountain Mercenaries series and it can absolutely be read as a stand alone however I recommend reading the books previous to this one so that you understand the relationships between the characters and some of the things that are mentioned that happened in previous books. This one is about Kannon “Ball” Black and Everly Adams. Ball and Everly got off on the wrong foot from the get go. Everly, who is also a SWAT officer, has come to the Mountain Mercenaries to get help in ...more

Mountain Mercenaries

Everly is a cop and SWAT officer, who enlists the help of the Mountain Mercenaries when her deaf sister disappears after school one day. Unfortunately, Ball isn’t keen to work with a woman on his team due to some of his past experiences, but he’s the one roped into going to LA with the sexy woman

Good story.
Typical Susan stoker novel though this series has a darker side, being willing to cross lines to keep people safe.
Deaf character which added a little extra.
Hero and heroine have an issue at the start as Hero messes up due to difficult experience in his past.
Loyal, protective Hero.
Strong heroine.
Secondary characters that could have possible future storylines developing through the series and updates of previous characters in series.

I enjoyed, Defending Everly, so much for so many different reasons. Ball goes out of his way to help Everly. Plus he learns sign language so he can communicate with Everly's deaf sister are a couple reasons. This series is awesome.

I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

This is Kannon's book and I've loved each and every one of the Mountain Mercenaries' books. You should get them all! However, this could be read as a standalone book. You might miss some of the relationship nuances, but overall, this could be read as a standalone.

Everly is a strong, independent SWAT officer who knows that her

Ball has had a bad run with women lately. His newbie partner almost got him killed. His fiancee ditched him when he got discharged from the Coast Guard. So he's not exactly female friendly but even he didn't think he'd stopp as low as insulting a woman to her face! Everly, as a SWAT officer, has to be tough, capable and twice as good as a man to be taken seriously but Ball just cannot seperate Everly the cop from Everly the female!

Give Everly a gun toting smackhead any day. Anything but this

Another winner! I love this series and Defending Everly tells us Ball's story. He has his own rough back story, and dislikes working with women...then he is forced to work with Everly to find her sister. However, Everly is not the average family member, she is a highly trained SWAT officer with her own tragic back story.

I loved the way these characters came together and found a way to become a team, and, ultimately, to see if their broken pieces can fit together to become a couple. The

I absolutely love Susan Stoker books and The Mountain Mercenaries have fast become a favourite of mine and this like all the rest flows well has enough suspense to keep you engaged and has a hero that will melt you.

Kannon “Ball” Black as been the mercenary lurking in the back ground throughout most of the series he is the quite one that works in the background but now we get his story and what a story it is. He has history with SWAT officer Everly Adams this isn't helped by the fact that he

Everly and her sister Elise did not have an easy childhood, but they always had their grandparents, Me-Maw and Pop, to help along the way. Everly has built a successful career in law enforcement when she gets the call that her sister is missing, and they fear she has been abducted. The search is further complicated by the fact that Elise is deaf so Everly heads to LA along with Ball, a member of the Mercenaries team.

Ball is less than enthused about working with Everly mainly because she is a

I had read this like a week ago but forgot to review...Anywho this story was Balls story and i really enjoyed it. In the last book when he heard what his assignment was going to be he started sprouting out nonsense because he had to work with a woman, said woman was well Everly hence the name. Everly is a cop and works in a man world so she wasn't surprised that Ball would feel that way, but there was no way she would stay behind. SUPER enjoyable story!! Kannon "Ball" & Everly get off to a rocky start. He has some prejudices he reallllyyy needs to get over. Thankfully, his epiphany about that fact doesn't take too long to pop up after he & Everly start working together. Heh. I love their dynamic & the way their relationship progresses. I love Elise, too! She has so much spirit!

I devoured my paperback of this even tho I had some lighting issues. LOL All the trademarks Stoker is so very good at are here -

After having read only one other book of this author's that I didn't love, I am really glad I decided to give her another try! This story was everything one would want in a romantic suspense!

Both Everly and Ball's characters are well defined and expertly fleshed out and the pacing of the plot was pitch-perfect. But it was the romance aspect that really made this book shine. It started with a very rocky beginning, then was allowed to develop at a natural and organic rate. Ms. Stoker never

Defending Everly

Mountain Mercenaries Book 5

This book was non stop action from the beginning to the very end. Everly Adams was very intense in the search of her half sister Elise who disappeared in plain sight. With the help of Kannon "Ball" Black the two worked together in the search of Elise. The dislike of Kannon "Ball" from Everly changed slowly and the chemistry and sparks soon ignited and the dislike soon turned into like. This book was filled with danger, heat, passion and love.

When Everly's sister Elise is kidnapped she has to work with Ball to find her as quickly as possible, but there first meeting is awful as Ball has compilations in the past working with females and Everly heard what he said and because she is a police women she gives as good back. Will they be able to work together to find Elise before anything happens to her. I love this book so much and I love the chemistry between them as it is so hot that you can feel it coming of the page's. I have read many ...more

Awesome! Defending Everly is a great addition to add to this series. Everly’ is a police officer who’s younger sister that is deaf is missing. Ball is going to help her in her search, but he has issues with women being in a “Man’s World”. However, Ball’s attitude changes when he gets involved in a situation and Everly comes to his aid. I thought it was sweet that he was trying to learn ASL to be able to communicate with Everly’s sister in the the event of her rescue. I give this book a 5 star ...more

Love, love, love this author. She knows how to keep you into her stories. Everly is a SWAT officer. Ball is a Mountain Mercenary who has little faith in women! Everly’s sister has been kidnapped! When she goes to the Mountain Mercenaries for help, she walks in when Ball is refusing to work with her. Can Ball learn to trust a female enough to give his heart?
