I write spicy romance books that end in an HEA. Contemporary romance, historical romance, paranormal romance…I write it all. The two things my books all have in common is lots of emotion and spice. Last year, I fell in love with a new subgenre: mafia romance. Since I write what I love to read, I started a new standalone series, Syndicate Rules where you’ll meet over the top alpha heroes in the Italian and Greek mafias as well as the Irish mob. There are arranged marriages, forced marriages, enemies to lovers, stalkers, forced proximity and lots of mafia intrigue. Morally gray is my new favorite color.

I’ve been published a while and most of my 90+ books have hit the Nielson Bookscan bestseller list, a few ended up on the USA Today bestseller list and some even hit national bestseller lists in the UK and Australia. My books have been translated into numerous languages and are for sale in dozens of countries around the world. I’ve won awards and been published with most of the big houses in New York, but my greatest achievement is touching readers’ hearts. When I hear from a reader who got caught up in one of my books, I know I’m doing what I’m meant to do.

I love writing emotionally deep stories with snappy dialogue and solid plots. I’m more grateful than I’ll ever be able to express that so many readers have taken my stories into their hearts and put my books on their reread and keeper shelves.

This is another great love story from Lucy Monroe. Tara Peters is finally putting her life back together after ruthlessly being dumped by an ex-lover. Angelo Gordon is set out to exact revenge on that ex-lover for destroying his family years ago. Angelo decides to seduce Tara to separate her from the ex-lover who is about to re-enter her life. Angelo believes seducing and winning her will exact the final measure of revenge.. This is a story about betrayal on many levels and how LOVE heals ALL wounds. What I really liked about this story was we get to see Angelo set out to win Tara from the very beginning. The author draws us into a classic seduction and wooing.... (sigh) This is not a book about ruthless Alpha heros that hate and abuse the heroine for most of the novel only to redeem themselves in the last few pages. Though, the betrayal comes back to bite Angelo, we get a very satisfying resolution. My only negative comment on the entire book, is I did not like how Tara handled the birth control issue. It didn't gel well with her character and frankly wasn't needed. That's probably why I would give this 4 stars rather than 5....But if you want a hero you can love from page 1 and a heroine to be admired, read this book! You will not be disappointed.

Hero wasn’t a womanizer and heroine wasn’t a virgin.. and I loved their story.
And their combustible chemistry, worth mentioning.

Lucy Monroe writes such nice heroes - even when they're trying to work out their childhood issues with a bit of revenge. In this case the hero woes and weds the heroine, knowing it will bother his nemesis. That's it - that's the whole conflict. Most of the story concerns the wooing. The revenge-being-a-bad-idea doesn't occur until the last 20% of the story.

So it's a sweet story, because the H/h are obviously crazy about each other. The angst was a blip in their lives and they quickly make up (with the help of the H's investigator/security guy).

4 1/2 Stars! ~ Angelo's been plotting revenge for ten years on the man who drove his mother to suicide and stole his family business. Finally he's found the perfect revenge and the opportunity is now. Tara's a former supermodel who had a disastrous affair with a wealthy tycoon, the very same tycoon that ruined Angelo's mother. Now she's earned her MBA and is working for a company that Angelo owns, and when he seeks her out to praise her abilities, she's wary of his intentions.

At first Angelo pursues Tara only as a means of vengeance against his enemy. The attraction between them is intense and leads to marriage. And when his enemy tries to find Tara and tell Tara about her husband's deceit, Angelo fears he'll lose her.

I bought this HP as part of last month's Passion Promo .... it's been years and years since I've read an HP, and when I seen Lucy Monroe's latest, I thought it was time to give them a try again ..... Angelo is definitely one of those alpha males and he's got a definite ruthless streak .... however, Ms. Monroe made sure that Angelo had a strong sense of fairness and admiration for strength in others.... Tara and Angelo make a wonderful couple and I'm very glad I got to read their story.

I liked it okay, but it wasn't one of the more memorable in the genre. The title is kind of misleading, because the vengeance was never directed at the heroine. He married her to get back at her ex, but she didn't know it and he never intended for her to know. He was always perfectly nice to her and liked, respected, and desired her. There was little tension in their relationship until the 'oh crap' moment at the end where his revenge plot comes out.

I bit dry in the relationship development....could have been a bit more angsty, but a nice emotional reconciliation. more like 3.5 stars for me but some great elements that averaged it up...heroine Tara deceived in prior relationship and hero Angelo courts her and respects her reticence to jump into bed. One of the most respectful heroes (notwithstanding his deception) I have read. Also refreshing to read a story where neither of the leads are promiscuous.

Most annoying part was when hero was referred to by his full name...Lucy should probably have googled it, I couldn't help but think of the hedge fund by the same name!

Meh, not her best effort, it doesn’t help that I find heroines with my name distracting.

2.5 stars. This was pretty cookie cutter and tame for me. I think I didn't like that almost all of the tension between the characters was in the last few pages. There were ulterior motives up until then, but the actual interaction between the hero and heroine lacked emotional tension. I finished it, but it wasn't exciting.

Lucy Monroe..sigh.
Like i don't understand why she insists on writing non-virgin heroines if she can't handle the POV well or if she wants to fit the "i am too innocent" mold that Harlequin is famous for it's heroine for but the constant comparison of her H with previous lover of how "he is not like Baron in this or that .." on and on was nerve grating. It looked even more foolish when we actually get to meet this Baron guy who smeared our heroines reputation like a dingbat and he turns out so slimy and predatory. I know Lucy wants our heroine to be molded as shy, innocent and wary but no women at the age of 20 could be that foolish as to think that kind of a man is a good bet especially if they want us to believe that H Tara is smart even if she is naive and wary. Nope. And in this 21st century with all the worldly travel savvy at her tips, no one fumbles with contraception this way either. At least Lynne Graham makes sure that her H are from small town/country/poor/ convent(!) background so their behavior looks a little believable( even their sexual attraction to men who call them whore for behavior they themselves never judge men on is unbelievable as hell!)
On the nitty gritty of it this books is a hit and miss. You would either like it a lot or would be bored out of your mind. It is not like the plot angst is too little of too much. It is more like the constant exchange of non-witty simple dialogues instead of wrapping it up in a paragraph or two and dragging on the mystery of what and why things happened with Tara's ex and Angelo's mother and business became tiresome after chapter 6. 6th chapter!!. The whole structure is written designed to loose anyone's attention who is looking forward to something fluffy but engaging stuff.
Other than the bad writing premise of H, Angelo is at least a gentleman who courted her and was genuinely nice except for the whole lying part. He was not judgemental or loud or angry that most of Harlequin turn out to be for drama. In any other and better written book from Monroe, he would have shone better.
Bored.

3 ⭐⭐⭐ - OK decent reads.
======================
Reread: July, 2019
Read: September, 2012

Seducing Tara Peters would be no hardship at all.

Desire was an emotion that encouraged smart women to make dumb decisions.

“I have no interest in becoming a business tycoon’s pillow friend.”

Angelo wanted her, too, which made this aspect of his revenge against the other man sweet indeed.

“I’ve been sated before, but that didn’t make up for the hurt that came later.” “No one can guarantee the future, bella mia, but the present is here for us to enjoy.”

Unlike Baron’s carefully orchestrated seductions, Angelo took her mouth like a conquering marauder.

If someone had told him that seducing a former model included building a sand castle, he would have dismissed the idea as nonsense.

Not only would it take too long to prepare, but he didn’t want the publicity that would accompany it to alert Baron Randall of Angelo’s plans to marry Tara.

Nice plot but the beginning (the build up) was a tad bit too long.
The climax was too abrupt and the grovel was practically non existent (like a page).
Hero pursued hero and married her - to get revenge on a man who still had the hots for the heroine.
She found out - went away to stay at a hotel for 3 days. Hero's subordinate came to bring her luggage and convinced her the Hero was in love with her.
Then when she looked in the hallway, the Hero was standing there.
Not what I would call a grovel.

Synopsis - Tara Peters worked hard as a model, graduated top of her class, and is now thriving as a junior executive at Primo Tech. Two years ago her world crashed down around her when two friends betrayed her and her former (and only) lover smeared her name in the press. She pulled herself up from all of that, but her faith in men (especially arrogant, powerful men) was destroyed. Her formed lover Baron Randall is also responsible to using Angelo Gordon's mother, stealing his father's company, and (to Angelo's mind) causing his mother to commit suicide. He's been working for a decade to bring down Randall's company and marriage, but when he learns that the man still keeps tabs on Tara, he sees to opportunity to strike the ultimate blow.

Primo Tech happens to be one of Angelo's many companies, so he uses that to meet Tara personally. Their first conversation impresses him with her intelligence as well as her beauty. If he marries her, he can not only keep her away from Randall permanently, he can also tie the most intriguing and attractive woman he has ever known to him for life. He works steadily to win her trust and convince her to marry him, although he does not promise love. Without revealing Randall's identity or her role, he even describes his plan and reasons for destroying his enemy. Tara grew to trust and love Angelo, but when she find out about her role in his vengeance, she's convinced that their entire relationship is a lie and that she has once again fallen for a manipulative monster. Angelo has lost every person he ever loved, and now that he realizes he loves Tara , he can't let go without a fight.

Review - The title alone put me off, but I decided to try to read the entire Royal Brides series. It was not as bad as the title and back cover blurb indicated, but it wasn't one of my favorite Lucy Monroe books. For most of the book I sided more with Tara than Angelo - her paranoia over a romantic relationship resonated with me. I didn't mind Angelo and even admired the way he courted Tara, not just seduced, but his motivations were terrible. At the end of the book I didn't care enough about Angelo to feel his pain and Tara was behaving so irrationally that she eroded my sympathy.

I've been reading this series out of order, which was especially apparent in this book because it ties so much to His Royal Love-Child (Tara's friend Danette's story). They don't depend on each other, it just spoils some things that might otherwise have been a surprise .

When I bought this book, I didn't read the reviews, so I didn't know if I would like it or not. Most books with the revenge being the plot, the hero is mean. I was pleasantly surprised that was not case in this story. The hero, Angelo, was never mean, or cruel to Tara. He was a very patient man. I think he fell in love with her the first time he meet her.
Baron was the man that lead Angelo's mother to suicide, and stole the family's company right out from under Angelo. Baron also hurt Tara. Now he wants her back. The only way to make sure Baron will never have the chance to hurt Tara again, is to marry her. It started out as revenge. He wanted to take everything away from the one man that stole everything away from him.
I enjoyed as I read that Angelo took time to date Tara and get to know her. She was not a easy conquest. The dates were fun. As they talked to one another they would sometimes have duel meaning to what they were saying. It made the book interesting. This was a fun, yet sweet story.

I enjoyed parts of this. But I really could have done without the woman literally thinking (more than once) that a character that had committed suicide was "weak" & "selfish". I know that people think that about suicide victims, but they're very wrong and to have the heroine (the one we're supposed to like) express this hateful opinion multiple times was very off-putting.

This book was eh, the girl keeps saying I'm not hung up on my ex, but all guys are compared to him. She marries a guy she knows nothing about within a week of meeting. Too unrealistic. Plus the main guy is an ass, he only wants to marry because his foe is obsessed with the main girl.

Angelo Gordon is otu for revenge against Randall Baron and once he learns that he’s keeping up with his ex-girlfriend in hopes of reconciliation, Angelo decides he’ll take her permanently off the market by seducing her. Tara doesn’t know that Angelo has ulterior motives, she just thinks he’s a charming guy who is completely different and refreshing from her past experience with Randall. She’s wary of trusting him, but she does eventually. And agrees to marry him, having fallen head over heels. Angelo likes, respects and desires Tara, but hasn’t completely forgotten his ulterior purpose in marrying her. It isn’t until Randall confronts Tara with Angelo’s scheme that he realizes how much he has to lose if he can’t convince her his love for her is true.

Kind of slow going in the angst department, as it’s basically the two of them going through the relationship milestones until she learns he was out for revenge and used her to get it. And the set up of the story, with the first 50% or so being almost entirely in Tara’s perspective means that we’re watching her fall in love and WE know what he’s really about. So instead of feeling like he’s really falling in love with her, I was constantly thinking what a scuzz-bucket he must be for deceiving her like this. It really felt like he was using her. Aside from that ulterior motive in there though, he was really quite nice and respectful to her...never really letting his need for revenge affect her (until the end when it comes out). And while he was pretty despondent at the idea of losing the woman he loved, I feel like he wasn’t sorry enough for his actions. Especially when he’s throwing out phrases like, “I never lied to you,” and “You didn’t ask.” It always bothers me when characters don’t see that sort of stuff as lying when I absolutely consider it deceit. But I definitely believed by the time all of this came out he completely and totally loved her. I just wish he’d taken on complete responsibility for his actions...but I do like his acknowledgement that his actions caused her pain and I really like that she had some backbone in reaction to the revelations...like this little gem, “I wouldn’t condemn my worst enemy to a father with your mortal poverty.” In light of that though, I feel like their resolution should have been a bit more drawn out. It felt like it happened pretty fast.

Incidentally...why is this part of the Royal Brides series? Nobody here is royal, are they?

Angelo wants revenge on an old enemy so he pursues Tara because she's important to the man and Angelo wants to make sure she never goes back to his enemy.

Tara has been betrayed by this enemy and is a bit gun-shy. She doesn't want to just casually jump into bed with anyone. Especially not another tycoon.

Angelo proposes marriage then but it's clear that he respects and is intrigued by her personality.

Two things bothered me in this book. One was that in the very early stages of the relationship, Angelo throws Tara into a pool. After she expressly says she doesn't want to get in on the deep end of the pool.

This made me think firstly, he ignored her request and secondly... what if she couldn't swim? The relationship was much to new for this act which was turned into him being playful.

It's pretty disturbing to me also, how often he associates the marriage with JUST revenge and no sort of affectionate feelings. And this happens well into the second half of the book.

Also, I found that out of the Lucy Monroe books I've been binge reading lately Angelo was the least affectionate. He felt somehow generic. As in not too angry and just pleasant enough to be acceptable.

I couldn't really SEE his character while reading this.

The anguish happens within the last couple of pages and ends pretty quickly with a happily ever after.

This felt a bit too bland for me.

I did love the description of how Angelo faired when Tara left him though. Looking as if he hadn't eaten in days and not having gone to work since she had left him.

My Thoughts
A good revenge read, and for once the hero isn't trying to wreak revenge on the heroine. It was a rather sweet read, with a good backstory involving Angelo and his family's back story. One thing that bugs me about Harlequin books is how they're determined to make the heroines as dowdy and dumpy as possible, considering Tara was a model, yes she was dumped horrifically, I would've liked to see her own herself.

Quick but pointless. The heroine was great but the hero's motivation fell flat. He explained his reason but they didn't seem genuine to do what he did. Villian wasn't in it enough causing problems and for his mess up he is left alone for 3 days? K... guess you learned your leason...no no he didn't.

I think it's cute. The heroine's ex was a bastard. I literally wouldn't be mad at the hero if I were the heroine. Though still, he should've made it clear his intentions from the beginning. No matter, the hero was a gentleman, he always asked her consent.
