With Nurses Week just around the corner, I wanted to read something that would remind me why I chose this profession. This marks year 18 for me, and on the tough days, I sometimes need a little encouragement. This book was a short and sweet reminder that, at our core, nurses are servants—our work is rooted in service to others.
The book also carries a spiritual undertone, with the author weaving scripture into heartfelt stories that highlight the virtues nurses embody—hope, love, peace, empathy, and more. While some of the stories felt a bit embellished, the messages behind them still resonated. I especially enjoyed the illustrations, meaningful quotes, and scripture references throughout.
This is definitely a book nurses can return to whenever they need a reminder of the impact they have on their patients’ lives.
Unrealistic scenarios, i.e., no doctor talks like that to a patient with paralysis; no CNA is that good, no nurse supervisor is that rude to a new nurse grad.
This is not the book I hoped it would be, it is a very Christian book, which looking at my other selections, I wouldn't mind, but I was not expecting it to be so and it does not sell itself as such.
