A new look at classic tropes

Gatebreaker started strong (with a hike through the woods, yay!) and typical teenage girls. As the book progresses, unique story elements emerge alongside classic story tropes (girl crushes on her long time "boy"friend, powers show with coming of age, etc.) The reader is given information in a way which feels natural enough, but there are a number of times when the dialogue feels unnatural.
