This book is is a shrine worth the pilgrimage for those who are intrigued by Eliot's exploration of the relationship between thought and feeling such as in his essays on the Metaphysical poets and Sir John Davies where he writes "Davies had that strange gift, so rarely bestowed, for turning thought into feeling." Prof. Gish does an excellent job elucidating how this comes into play across the entire breadth of Eliot's own poetry and effectively demonstrates how Eliot's work relates to the philosophies he was influenced by especially in relation to time. Some of her insights shine a fresh light on the poems of his that contain more difficult terminology which would otherwise be lost on the present day reader. There were a few typos and cut off sentences in my copy, but in spite of that I found it to be a brilliant and succinct piece of scholarship.
