Reflections of Christ
What if you could have been there the night of Christ's birth? Or the day of His baptism? What would it have been like to sit at His feet while He taught the people the sinners, the children, the apostles? What would the sky have looked like over Gethsemane? Photographer Mark Mabry re-creates authentic, meridian-of-time scenes using both full-color and black-and-white photographs. This first-of-a-kind book showcases twenty-five scenes of the life of Christ. From the Nativity to His miracles to His death and resurrection, these unique portrayals, accompanied by New Testament scripture, offer a powerful witness of the Lord Jesus Christ. Included in the book are behind-the-scenes author notes, providing readers with an intimate glimpse into the making of each photograph. Stunning and sacred, Reflections of Christ is an ideal coffee-table book that is filled with images that millions of people have already experienced and grown to love. It is a book that Christian families will be proud to have in their homes.

I was first drawn to this book when I saw the picture of the Angels. For those of you who know me well...I have a thing about angels. This picture to me is amazing and makes me think that angels do pose or "fly" around (for lack of a better word)in many different ways. I guess I just thought they just stand upright all the time, just like us people. But I love how this portrait portrays them as excited about the birth of Christ, wanting to be a part of it, and showing up in anyway that they can manage to get there to be a part of it. (Valerie's theory! =))
I must admit with the rest of the book I was not too impressed...or at least it felt like I had seen these scenes many times before by many different artists. What really got me was the editorial and preface that the author gave. I am moved at how the author found his way to this project. Not only his desire to do something with his gift, but the promptings to remove things from his life, the people he worked with during the shoots and I am quite impressed by what lengths he went through to achieve the "perfect" scene. I particularly loved how he and others would talk about what was going on in each scene and how everyone felt impressed to do one thing or another. I love the references the book makes to everyone sitting around before or after the shoot and just talking about Christ and their own reflections of him. I feel that if this book totally flopped, well at least those who were involved gained a better testimony of our Savior.
I feel that I too am trying to find the right things to do. Even in my own profession of retail sales. It's hard to find the right path to do what is right regardless of what my employer, employees, and even customers want me to do. I felt that I could relate to the author and I understood what he means about there being many paths, but finding the right one can be tricky.

The boys and I were in Saint George,Utah over Christmas break and we went to the temple visitor's center with my mom. These pictures were on exhibit there. It was interesting. Different. I wasn't prepared for the images, and it was all photography. A few pictures really captured my attention and my emotions. It wasn't a real slow, ponderous walk as we had the boys with us, and it was with mixed emotions that we left the gallery. I didn't feel right about someone attempting to portray the Savior while in Gethsemane. I didn't know how I felt about the crucifixion pictures until we sang "Behold the Great Redeemer Died" in sacrament and I couldn't get those images out of my head.
I love "Husband" and "The First Stone" and the baptism pictures. I love Christ walking on the water and "Road to Emmaus" I like the one of Christ and the little boy (who is actually Mark's son). The picture "Judas" is exceptionally emotional. Wow. You can literally feel his misery in the bottom of your gut.
The Preface of the book shed light on the whole project and there is an explanation for each picture at the end of the book which is also enlightening. While I enjoyed the images of this book, overall I enjoyed the images of Mark Mabry's "Another Testament Reflections of Christ" much more because of the story it tells of the Nephite people and their experience with Christ's visit.
This is also available on DVD. The images are set to music which, of course, only adds to the experience.

For the Christmas season, we get this amazing photographic montage of Christ's ministry. The images of Mark's work are breathtaking. In the introduction, Gary tells us how he came to create these miraculous, soul-stirring images and at the back of the book, he describes each photograph and how each came to be and the comments from the individuals he used as to their feelings. Gary has music to go with this book and his exhibit is on display throughout the country. This is a book that would make a great coffee table book.

My parents got Mike and I this book for Christmas. I actually had the opportunity to see these photographs at the Joseph Smith Memorial building in downtown Salt Lake City while I was visiting there in October. I'm speechless at how amazing these photographs are and the overwhelming emotions they bring as I turn each page to discover another moment from Christ's life depicted in these photographs. If you've seen these you know what I'm talking about...if you haven't you need to stop by my house and take a look at them in my book! Thanks Mom and Dad!

This is a beautiful compilation of photographs by Mark Mabry chronicling the life of Christ. It has a very unique feel to it in that the look is as magnificent as grand paintings yet they are photographs. They convey such a sense of humility, and humanness. The photographs really bring "Christ" to life, helping me remember that he is a real person, he did walk the earth, and he is our brother as well as our Savior.
Make sure to read the notes in the back explaining how Mark achieved many of his desired effects.

I think this is a great gift to anyone who believes in Christ. It is beautiful and enjoyable as a work or art and as a testimony of the Savior of the World. But my favorite part was the preface, where the artist shares his story of learning to consecrate his talents to the Lord. I recommend it to all Christian artists of any kind. This is worth your time.

Amazing photography! What a TRUE artist using his talents to testify of the Savior. This book has a special spirit and I loved reading about how he was "purified" by changing simple things in his life (like stopped drinking Monster drinks, changed his music selection, etc.) to prepare for this work.

This is a stunningly beautiful book I picked up at Time Out for Women in Texas. This photographer recreated scenes from the Savior's life with real people and photographed them. I would highly recommend this book for anyone with a love for Jesus Christ. It is amazing.

The photographs and words together present a simple, practical, realistic, impactful, inspiring impression of Christ and His mission. To better understand the photographer-artist-writer's gift to us, be sure to read the Preface.

It's a phonto book, so not much to really read. But the photos are amazing. It's a fantastic Christmas gift (at least I think so).
