Tiki Drinks

Rate this book
Light the torches and grab the tiny paper umbrellas - the handbook of delicious tiki beverages is here. In Tiki Drinks, former bartender Adam Rocke selects his favorite tropical libations. The effect of "tiki" or "boat" drinks, says the author, is to evoke the sensation of being marooned on a tropical island with a bevy of insignificant others eager to do your bidding. 50 of the best tropical drink recipes include pina coladas, daiquiris, tropical punches, margaritas, freezes, coolers, and other classics that will conjure island breezes and rolling waves. Lesser-known but equally transporting drinks include such creative variations as the Pirate's Cove, Buccaneer, Zombie, Frozen Mudslide, and Bahama Mama. In addition to serving up liquid exotica, Rocke offers tips on mixers, glasses, and serving techniques - all necessary accoutrements of the pro or amateur bartender who wants to keep the natives restless.

Adam Rocke is a writer, bartender, and cocktail connoisseur whose book Atomic Bodyslams to Whiskey Zippers – Cocktails for the 21st Century reflects his lifelong fascination with mixology. Raised at his family’s resort, The Nevele, in upstate New York, Rocke began crafting cocktails at a young age. He later honed his skills at Cornell University, Arizona State, and behind the bar at some of Hollywood’s most vibrant nightspots. Alongside bartending, he wrote screenplays—some of which were produced—and contributed articles to publications such as GQ and Maxim. Rocke has traveled extensively to study regional cocktail traditions, particularly in Florida and the Caribbean, and is now based in Los Angeles where he focuses on writing full time.

Any nimrod can mix cocktails but how many can put it in a book with cool pics by Shag? As instructional books on lounge drinks go this is just terrif! My favorite drinks are the "Horny Monkey" (Vodka/Rum/Banana Liqueur) and the "Hawaiian Orgasm" (vodka/rum/pineapple juice). Get some serious booze culture with Shag serenading your drunken eyeballs.

The Shag art is the draw. The drinks are mostly ridiculous.

Really just rating this one for the art, which is so much fun. I'm sure the drinks are good, too, but I honestly haven't tried any. This book was my first introduction to the art of Shag - I received it as a gift from a friend who is a big fan of the artist. Interesting (and quite frankly a little off the wall in a strangely appealing way) take on mid-century inspired art.
