I've stated in another review that I am a fan of Tessa Dawn and especially her Blood Curse Series so when I saw a recent release of a different series I was interested. The weird thing is that I try to NEVER start a series in the middle. If I'm interested in a book and its book three in a series, I'll go find the beginning and start with book one...every time. Imagine my surprise when I realized that I had already read the first book in this series. I rated it, but didn't write a review. Even seeing that, I could not, for the life of me, remember reading it or what it was about. Weird, right?
Anyway, on to this installment. I actually listened to the entire book on Audible and the audio version was fine. I'm at a loss though, because even after finishing this book, I STILL don't really remember the beginning book of the series, and that's very unusual for me. This was a quick, easy read that was okay. I didn't feel like there was really ANY character development and the world building was almost non existent. Maybe it was all done in the first book that I can't remember.
It has a similar plot to the Blood Curse, just with Dragons...or, are they dragons? Hmmm....probably need to go back and look. I know there are Dragon Lords - 7 of them and their sons...so I guess they are dragons. So... Guys find their human mate, have 10 days to convince them that they were meant to be together, have to go to the temple and be turned by fire into a dragon, or something similar to a dragon? ....piece of cake, right? Because I guess I missed some of the crucial world details, it seemed a bit harsh to me.
Another issue - Why this one Dragon Lord (I'm sure HE was a dragon) decided to break 7 bones, take 7 pounds of flesh and 7 pints of blood from the MC - who may or may not be a dragon - because he asked for a favor? Seemed extremely brutal and just a bit drastic to me - and that made it hard to immerse myself in the story.
Even with all of that, the set up for the next book sounded interesting and I think that I would like to continue on. I think I just need to pay better attention :)
