Pantheon of Dragons #2

Axeviathon: Son of Dragons

Rate this book
As an immortal mercenary and all-around badass, Axeviathon Saphyrius has spent the last two centuries in service to a fearsome dragon lord, while biding his time awaiting his fated female – the one woman he is destined to claim and love.

He never expected to be cast into a nightmare fraught with shadow-walkers, sin-eaters, and lethal pagan enemies – he never expected his chosen mate to be up to her eyeballs in the same malevolent cult or to be used as an unwitting pawn in an epochs-old rivalry. So when his amulet heats up and her eyes turn sapphire blue, he knows he is in for a wild ride. This won’t be an ordinary claiming.

Amber Carpenter’s life may as well have been cursed. From her rocky upbringing in the foster-care system to her terrifying abduction at age fifteen by a ruthless pack of thugs, she has learned to play the hand life deals her. And somewhere along the way, she has even made peace with her tragic fate.

When a gorgeous, yet savage warrior strolls up to her teller line in King’s Castle Credit Union, Amber knows right away that something is wrong…

The way he looks at her…
The way he approaches her…
The fact that he already knows her name.
And his unnatural, hypnotic eyes—raven-black pupils surrounded by sapphire irises, a hidden fire blazing in their depths.
Amber knows he’ll be back.

When the savage demands of a dragyri male collide with the tragic misfortune of a human woman’s life, a race against time begins, and two very different worlds erupt into fire, passion, and devastation.

WTH? Why do authors come up with some pet name for the heroine and then have the hero call her that time and time again. Her name was Amber, but Axe called her Amber girl 39 times and sweet angel 13 times. Why couldn’t she just be Amber. I got such a headache from rolling my eyes over those silly names.

I didn’t like this book any more than the first one AND I really didn’t like how long the Stockholm Syndrome went on. Jeez, I was so glad when Axe did whatever he did to her to help her get over that thinking.

It was an okay story, but I don’t think these books are nearly as good as the Blood Curse series. I’ve read all 10 of those books and these don’t come close to how good those are. Tessa Dawn should stick to the Blood Curse stories and stop trying to write something new.

There is explicit sex in this, and the F-Bomb is used 31 times.

As to the narration: It’s Eric G. Dove! What more can you ask for? Perfect in every way.

Oh my gosh, Axeviathon is a great read! The words flow so smoothly and you are so entrenched in the story that you don't even realize you're halfway through the book because it's too difficult to take your eyes from the words. I'm not going to give the story away completely.
Axe is an immortal son of Dragon lord. He is a warrior and serves his lord. The sons of the Dragon lords have one female that they are fated for. Axe has spent a very long time searching for his. One day, he finds her in the most unexpected of places which brings about a host of problems. But Axe is up for the challenge of getting his mate at his side in the short amount of time that he has to do it. The story is fast-paced, full of intrigue and evil beings. I loved it!

YET AND STILL

If I read the ridiculous phrase, “yet and still” one more time I am may vomit.

And another thing, these books in this series are barely that, books. There are gaping holes in the stories, weak plot lines, and everything is rushed to the ending. I can no longer suspend my disbelief.

I am so disappointed in this series. I had hoped the second book would show deeper characters and more in depth world building, but the writing has regressed to just sloppy.

I bought all 3 of the series at the same time, so I will push on and read the third book, however, I won’t be buying any more of the books if the 3rd in the series doesn’t get much, much better.

Blown away

This new series is so different from any others I’ve read..and I read a lot..Tessa you have a fantastic imagination,I just can’t book the book down..That 1 female who is made for that 1 dragon son..
The chase, the evil demons, and result the rebirth of fire..it what’s in-between makes for no stop reading..
Tessa is one of the best in-depth writers ...I don’t think there is a book she has written that not brilliant...
Bring on the next book...

Amazing Strength, Undying Love

Soul searing and uplifting together makes this story beautifully heart aching but redeeming with Axe and Amber as two destined to be together against insurmountable obstacles. What is meant to be is worth anything!
Smart, sexy and intense.
A great read!

I enjoyed the book, but I must say the hero abuse kind of made me angry. I'm the kind of person that if you make someone out to be gods then stuff like abuse shouldn't come up. I do love this author though and this series does have promise to be another piece of literary candy that I must read.

I've stated in another review that I am a fan of Tessa Dawn and especially her Blood Curse Series so when I saw a recent release of a different series I was interested. The weird thing is that I try to NEVER start a series in the middle. If I'm interested in a book and its book three in a series, I'll go find the beginning and start with book one...every time. Imagine my surprise when I realized that I had already read the first book in this series. I rated it, but didn't write a review. Even seeing that, I could not, for the life of me, remember reading it or what it was about. Weird, right?

Anyway, on to this installment. I actually listened to the entire book on Audible and the audio version was fine. I'm at a loss though, because even after finishing this book, I STILL don't really remember the beginning book of the series, and that's very unusual for me. This was a quick, easy read that was okay. I didn't feel like there was really ANY character development and the world building was almost non existent. Maybe it was all done in the first book that I can't remember.

It has a similar plot to the Blood Curse, just with Dragons...or, are they dragons? Hmmm....probably need to go back and look. I know there are Dragon Lords - 7 of them and their sons...so I guess they are dragons. So... Guys find their human mate, have 10 days to convince them that they were meant to be together, have to go to the temple and be turned by fire into a dragon, or something similar to a dragon? ....piece of cake, right? Because I guess I missed some of the crucial world details, it seemed a bit harsh to me.

Another issue - Why this one Dragon Lord (I'm sure HE was a dragon) decided to break 7 bones, take 7 pounds of flesh and 7 pints of blood from the MC - who may or may not be a dragon - because he asked for a favor? Seemed extremely brutal and just a bit drastic to me - and that made it hard to immerse myself in the story.

Even with all of that, the set up for the next book sounded interesting and I think that I would like to continue on. I think I just need to pay better attention :)

Tessa Dawn is one of my favorite authors because of her Blood Curse series. I am always left thinking about the books after completing them; deeply caring about the characters; excited for the next book in the series. I can't say the same for the Pantheon of Dragons series. It's not interesting. I don't really know or care about the characters. I can't bring the world built into my minds eye. I can't picture the dragons nor the sons. If you're like me, you can 'see' the characters from the description. You can even imagine what their voice would sound like. I get nothing here. I listened the audio version and the narrator was just not good. He didn't do accents very well. His tone & pitch was mundane. For me, hearing a book usually enhances the story. Not this time.

The Dragyras are oh so boring. They don't have good back stories; their internal musings are slow and uninteresting. I have zero connection with them.

I do however, like Ghost & the array of demons. Of course I like the bad guys! They have a little more personality. Not enough to make me continue the series though. Back to The Blood Curse series and Dragons Realm.
I gave three stars because Dawn is a good writer. This was a miss for me though.

Fans of this series will not be disappointed when Axe meets his mate in the unlikeliest of places. Amber has been controlled by men since she was fifteen, unknowing they were demons and followers. Working as a teller in a bank full of demon activity, Amber catches the eye of Axe when he goes in to send a message. When her eyes flash sapphire blue, he knows she is his mate and time is of the essence. Retrieving Amber from a home full of demon activity requires favors that significantly cost Axe. Payback is full of torture and pain. Although this is indeed a romance, there is plenty of angst and darkness. Amber has to learn to trust and accept goodness, which she has never known. Readers will root for this group and grieve for Ghost’s demise. I can’t wait to read his story next.

Book two in the Pantheon of Dragons series. This is the story of "Axe", Axeviathon Saphyrius in service to Dragon Lord Saphyrius , Keeper of the Sapphire. While on an assignment to deliver a message from the seven Dragon Lords to the Dark Lord Drakkar Hades, king of the underworld and ruler of demons and shades, Axe walks into the King's Castle Credit Union, a front for the demon horde, totally unaware he is about to come face to face with his fated dragyra Ambrosia "Amber" Carpenter. Sadly Axe is in for more pain than he could ever imagine in order to claim his dragyra. I enjoyed this second book immensely but it was all over too soon for me. Now I must anxiously await the next book and it's not going to be an easy wait.

This is a fantastic addition to any good sci-fantasy library, it's a detailed, fast moving, easy to read book, with lots of details to fire the imagination. The characters are interesting and some more easy to relate to than others. Has just enough suspense to counter balance the underlying sexual tensions and mischiefs
I really enjoyed reading this and would have liked it to continue but all good things must end until the next book....

This is the second book in the Pantheon of Dragons; and we are gaining more insight to this amazing world of dragons, demons, dragyri, shades, etc. Tessa is weaving one heck of a world with a wild ride. I cannot wait to see where the next installments take us and how the Seven, especially Lord Dragos, respond to the latest battle with the Lord Drakkar.

Slow burn; in the sense that the main couple get together towards the end of the book, not in the passage of time (story takes place in a 10 day period). Vaguely Black Dagger Brotherhood, but in a good way. I liked it.

It was interesting to discover a new story but I will not continue with the series because I prefer my vampires to be just vampires. However I have started reading the blood curse.
