Wicked Girl is a psychological crime fiction spiced with erotic touch, where a sequence of accidents generates cold-blooded, and blood-curdling actions. I.V Olokita is a Writer and Hebrew literary editor. Olokita is the Author of four Hebrew best sellers, soon all avilable in English translation.
I.V. Olokita has been facing life-threatening situations for most of his life, specializing in the management of medical aid to disaster areas all over the world. He has a BA degree in logistics, and an MA degree in emergency and disaster situations' management. He also volunteers for rescue missions in disaster areas all over the world. Olokita's first book (in Hebrew) - "Ten simple Rules", was published in 2014. It won an Israeli literary prize and immediately became an online bestseller. The following year, another book by Olokita - "Reasons to Kill God", became a local bestseller. In May 2016, his third novel - "A Wicked Girl", was published and was considered to be a great success. I.V. Olokita is a happily married father of two and a foster father of five cats and two dogs. He considers sleeping as a waste of time and spends his night writing.
A pedophile rescues a girl trapped under the rubble of an insane asylum after an earthquake. That's all you need to know. The story is not only gross but very confusing, the writing seems amateurish, and I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone. Triggers galore - you've been warned!
Thank you to NetGalley and I.V. Olokita for providing me a digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.
An earthquake was felt at Brmingham Mental Institution. When that happened, John Wilcox saved Elsie, a resident of the Institution. Is it love at first sight? Or something else?
Elsie's father goes on a quest for his lost daughter. She, too, like her mother, was trying to escape him. And so, began the tragic story between prey, and it's supposed predator.

I can't improve on the book blurb. It's full of twists and turns and surprises around every corner. It's a compelling read ... totally unpredictable. The ending was unforeseeable. remember ... not everything you see and hear is true ... or is it?
Many thanks to the author for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
"Even if a dog goes mad, it will always be a dog.” A simple yet complex story, with interesting plot details as well as character development. It has a profound mark of psychological behavior. Abuse, anti socialism, mental illness..A delusional protagonist, a frail teenager, the neighbours..a day by day society with an intricate perspective of how each of us intérprete good and evil, a strong mention of relative morality viewed from a different perspective each one of us has. Do we lose our humanity when we become deranged? A truly thought provoking story!
I held back for a long time because I read this book first in Hebrew about a year ago and now also in English. Below you can read the review I published in Hebrew, translated, and it still fits what I feel like I just read this book for the first time:
I've been sitting for a few hours now to write this review. This is the third time that I delete and rewrite. The truth is that anyone who remembers me knows that things to say are not my weak side, in my world there has always been enough words for every moment, even that time in class when I lost my voice and Grandmother consoled and explained with a laugh that at least I did not lose my head.
But this time almost all my words were gone. Really. And I've been trying to find them, man, I've not seen them for a week. This book pecks at my cortex and does not let go, asks me to find words for it, words that will caress or reprove it. And I, what to do? I lost all my words in front of a book so thin and small. Yes, This book contains no more than 200 pages. It's a fast read, and then you think about it and reread it until all the secrets and mines in it are discovered, and things get in your head. So you look in the mirror in the morning or the night after and suddenly you realize that nothing worked out, so you reread it.
On first reading, you find that there are skips between times and it is written in a very different way. In another interpretation, you realize that it is different from everything you've read so far, so even after a week of giving myself thought I was left empty of words and unable to shake it off.
And yet I want to extract a bit of review, so without damaging the content of the story. I will try.
Get it - John likes to take advantage of young women. He meets young Elsie at the time of a terrible earthquake. John takes her out of the rubble of a mental hospital and becomes a hero in his own eyes. During the rescue, he also meets an interesting old couple who will intervene in his life and especially in the life of the rescued Elsie. Sometime later, the girl's father appears. The young man survived the great earthquake and is looking for her. So all is well?
How would Grandmother use to say? NO!
Hence the book becomes a horror show for mollusks like me. In each line, and each page has a discovery, an occurrence that turns the whole story and devours the cards and stomach. You will not pay attention, and you will not concentrate - you're lost. Poor Elsie and cruel John or cruel Elsie and poor John. The father is a monster, or is he only a victim? And the dogs in the story and death and romance and cruelty and compassion...
So, how do you get out of it without going mad? An excellent question if this is a question ...
Until the last sentence in the book, you will only guess. You will not succeed, give yourself over to this book, let it take you for two and a half hours in another world with this extraordinary writer's writing.
And one more word before I end, if you do not have the patience to start using your mind, do not start reading. It's neither erotic nor novel or thriller. It can not work in the background. It's something else. I do not know exactly what it is.
In short, this book recommended for women like me who are looking for a moment in life that the words will go away so suddenly. Let alone to enjoy that moment.
There is something unique about this book compared to others I recently read, thrillers and novels alike. The plot moves between times, and so all the parts of this timeless puzzle come together and reveal the inner world of the heroes. The author doesn't try to impress the reader, almost the opposite, trying to keep us away - in his strange way, sometimes disgusting. I won't lie, the only reason I read this book was that I read the author's previous book and I liked it. The thing is that if I didn't know the author, I would not touch this book because of the name that reminds me of erotic literature and because of the cover that reminds me of horror literature. Yet the bottom line is that this is an extraordinary book I enjoyed reading.
"She had the greenest eyes in the world, and they were so bloody bright! In those eyes, the world looked like the greenest grass ever watered by nightly dew and through which sunlight danced with a plethora of colors-such colors, which even the Good Lord gave rather sparingly."
Where in the world could you meet such a beautiful girl, loved and described with such a passion? Well, I read about her in Olokita's new thriller; Wicked girl, Yet, as for my question, according to the author's perception, such a girl can only be found under the rubbles of a mental hospital. Wicked girl is Olokita's second book I read, and here, too, he holds no horses, producing an even more powerful and straightforward story than before. In this book, Olokita offers much more than imagination and ingenuity. He presents us with the twists of his soul, which only makes it more intriguing. The main characters are Elsie, the girl described above, and John, a young man in his thirties who lives like an adolescent. Failing to find a job, and, actually, not even trying to find one, he lives with his parents after failing in his psychology studies and passes his time seducing teenage girls. One day, John and Nicole, one of his girlfriends, drive into the scene of an earthquake, which eventually kills Nicole. Once John gets out of his car, a stranger asks him to help search for survivors. There, under the rubbles, he meets Elsie, a young inmate of the collapsed hospital. From that moment on, his life rocked. This book feels unsettling and eerie from start to finish, make you expect nasty surprises from around every corner. It doesn't fall under any specific category. Instead, it is a fascinating blend of elements. Olokita builds up all characters thoroughly, with a grand master's sensitivity. Despite the quick tempo of events, with every character always surprising us at every step it takes. Some sentences in this book belong in collections of great literary quotes, conveying profound messages. However, I chose not to quote them, fearing they lose all their quality once out of context. It is undoubtedly an excellent choice for reading.
WOW. A somewhat fresh look at alternative views on mental health. John is at one end of the spectrum. You definitely need to read this twice to enjoy the essence. Sometimes humorous, yet tragic. Not for the lighthearted reader.
Thanks to I.V. Olokita and NetGalley for this different adventure into a highly speculative world.
I don't think this is a masterpiece or an original article about society. It is a fascinating story that is designed to challenge reading and give moments of pleasure to those who love this seam between crime, violence, horror, and a lot of dark psychology. In that sense, well done.
I just love this author's writing. He's got courage kicking his reader's stomach mercilessly. Reading his books is like Marines basic training. The great thing awaits those readers who are brave enough to stay that they get a different reading experience than any other book. Although I don't doubt that this one will get a lot of poor reviews (especially by readers who didn't read the book to its end) I prefer to be one of the bravest and dare to write this is one of the best books I have read. Shocking, disturbing, wonderful!
Wicked girl is not the kind of books which you can finish reading and soon move on to your next book. It leaves you breathless and speechless for hours. It is a psychological crime thriller which tells the stories of John Wilcox- a pedophile, Elsie- a resident of the Brmingham Mental Institution whom John saved after an eathquake, Grey- Elsie's father and a few more characters. The story is not told chronologically but shifts from past to present and with each such shift new information is unfolded which turns upside down any anticipation you may have of how the story will continue. And indeed, the ending of the story is the most undredicable endings I have ever read. I highly recommend this excellent book by I.V. Olokita. It is one of the best books I have ever read.
Fast and surprising plot. Olokita's writing doesn't let your thoughts process what you only just read to arrange the story in a way that makes it easier for you to understand what is about to happen next. In this way, even when the following twist is already in front of your eyes, you won't see it coming, and undoubtedly you'll fall to one hundred percent of the traps that Olokita sets for you.
I'll start with the bottom line. It's an excellent read. At the beginning of the reading, I thought I had chosen the wrong book. First pages I had a hard time understanding the go-between the plot I was reading and the psychological thriller or crime I intended to read. But I was soon sucked into the plot, and from that moment I fell into every trap the writer put in front of me. The end of the book is no less than a genius. 4.5 Stars.
Wow - where to even start with reviewing this book?!
Wicked Girl by I V Olokita has a striking cover and for once you can judge a book by its cover as it is a truly striking read.
I can honestly say I have never read anything like this before and I found myself to be as compelled as I was repulsed by the events that unfolded.
It is a shortish, fast paced read and I am left still pulling threads to unravel the storyline as my brain does its best to catch up. Is John inherently evil? Is Grey? Are Barry and his wife? Is Elsie?
I think this is a book you could read again on a different day and end up with an entirely different view on who was the hero and who was the bad guy - the only thing I feel 100% sure of is that Doggo was a good boy!
Wicked Girl, part dreadful nightmare stuff, part hilarious Villianelle style dark comedy - the only way you'll know for sure is to read it for yourself. Be warned though, not for the feint hearted.
My thanks to #damppebblesblogtours and IV Olokita for the review copy and for letting me take part in the blog tour.

Olokita's first book (in Hebrew), Ten Simple Rules, was published in 2014. It won an Israeli literary prize, and immediately made an online bestseller. The following year, another book by Olokita, The Executioner From The Silent Valley, made a local bestseller in Israel. In May 2016, his third novel, Wicked Girl, was published, to great success, and is now presented in English. Olokita's books are characterized by direct writing, twists and turns, requiring the reader to delve into and maintain vigilance from the beginning of the book to its surprising end.
This book isn’t for the faint-hearted at all. It is somewhat confusing, leaving you with many unanswered questions about good vs evil, making you question your own views on good vs evil, mental illness etc. It shows mental illness in a very different bazaar set of circumstances. IV manages to trick and trap you while leaving you breathless, godsmacked and chilled right down to your bones.
At times this book is execrable, harrowing, wicked and thrilling. Packed full of abhorrent twists and turns with plenty of action.
If I am being honest, the blurb above pretty much describes the book perfectly and eloquently.
characters
John Wilcox is not a character that you will like, failed psychology university student, living with his parents and has an unhealthy disgusting like for younger girls. BUT this is in line with the storyline and makes this book the more dark and intriguing.
Elsie, a young teenager, bright green eyes. She is a superb complicated character who leaves you questioning all throughout. You are feeling sympathetic and not so sympathetic towards her.
writing style
I.v has a very unique writing style, showing the reader instead of telling. He pulls absolutely no punches in his writing and pulls you straight in. It is clear, easy and uncomplexed straight forward writing.
pacing
It is a very quick read, Incredibly well fast-paced. One moment you have started and the next your turning the last page.
cover
This cover really sets the creepiest, horrifying imagery for this short novel.
mini-review
If you want an incredibly quick Psychological Thriller this summer then WICKED GIRL is for you. IV manages to trick and trap you while leaving you breathless, and gobsmacked. An execrable, harrowing, wicked and thrilling book packed full of abhorrent twists and turns with plenty of action.
Wicked Girl is a psychological thriller written about John Wilcox, who happens to save a girl from a mental institute when an earthquake occurs. Elsie’s father begins searching for her lost daughter, and the journey between John and Elsie begins.
The story touches upon psychological matters, behavior, abuse, anti-socialism, and concepts of mental nature. The protagonist John, is a dropout. He is a failure, no job, living with his parents, in his thirties, who happens to be driving with his girlfriend at the time before she is crushed in the incident while John is saving Elsie.
The literature is written in a way that you almost feel like something is going to happen at any time. I enjoyed this factor about the book as the writing was skillfully designed to keep me intrigued and wanting to know more. The pace was fast and had a descriptive nature allowing the reader to imagine the scenes visually.
I recommend this book to people who like to read thriller stories and are into psychology geared stories.
This is quite a hard book to review…it’s clever nuances of language and plot are so attention grabbing…how do you put that visceral emotion into words.
John, a 30+ year old man, who still acts like a much younger man, and one of his young girlfriends are caught up in an earthquake, Nicole dies, but John helps the search for survivors…
This is where he saves, Elsie, a damaged, abused, slightly deranged, teenager. But John is a loser he has nothing…..what can he offer anyone? He’s a pervert to say the least and his thoughts can be hard to read at times….will he help Elsie?
While this is a short, fast read, it really packs a lot in…..Part crime, part psychological thriller but completely gripping.
Thank you to Damppebbles Blog Tours for the opportunity to participate in this blog tour and for the promotional materials and a free copy of the ebook. This is my honest, unbiased review.
I was offered to be an early reviewer of this book and a thank you to the Author. The book starts a bit perplexed trying to find the nature of the main character, but things soon slip together as the action starts unfolding early. The main character is a perv and at times makes me feel very uncomfortable reading about his intentions. He comes to learn of the harsh and sick life of a girl he rescue's has grown up, where both parents are to be blame. As the story unfolds learning more about the main character that seems to be sick himself taking advantage over young sick girls for sexual desires. A bit of back and forth between characters with some betrayl and action. The book ends with a good surprise. A good read a will recommend.
Can you say about a book it is so terrible that you enjoyed every moment of reading it? This is precisely what happened to me with this one, and after I received another private recommendation, I reread it and discovered that the entire book had changed completely. The story comes to give us perspective and a view between good and evil and vice versa. The point is that the first time you read the book, you identify with the heroine and the second time, you find yourself identifying with the hero. And it is absurd that both are seemingly opposites. One is good, and the other is total evil.
This story was a real challenge to follow. Between the plot skipping, poor lead-ins making it difficult at times to know who's speaking, and the shaky editing job, I surprised myself by finishing it. There is virtually no character development beyond the intro blurb telling you the main character is a 32 year old pedophile that rescues a young female patient from a collapsed insane asylum following an earthquake. If you can relate to any of the characters in this story, you should be concerned.
This book is kind of hard for me to explain. The whole story only consists of a few people and a dog. The young girl apparently was abused by someone. Some people said she was a weird girl anyhow. So whose the bad guy and is she really being real or faking all these things. I guess your gonna have to read it to try and figure it all out yourself.
I just didn't get it. I suppose the book made sense, but i didn't see any point to it. The writing was a little awkward to read. The story, about a girl with possible mental problems and the men who abused her had no heroes. It really had no one who was even a sympathetic character. It needed more than this one note.
This book is something completely different. I have never read a book like it, one that makes me throw it on the floor and walk on it until its heroes die and on the other hand, can not stop reading it. OMG, I went through a great jolt, and it's just great.
It's the most compassionate book I have ever read and the vicious of them all. This one is an intriguing combination of all excellent writing skills can provide an avid reader; Shutter Island, American Phsicho, The Shining and Mud Vain all mixed up into a controversial masterpiece.
Can't really leave an adequate review. This story was just too weird for me. I didn't get it, didn't like it, would not recommend it. Only gave it 2 stars because the author at least used decent grammar and punctuation.
Intense, Wicked Girl is one book you want to read with the lights on. This is the first book I have read by this author and hope to read more in the future.
"Even if a dog goes mad, it will always be a dog."
Firstly I read this in one sitting. It’s a quick read and I felt as if the author sucked me in from the start.
I’m still not sure about this story. Not in how good it is but more like what the heck have I just read kinda way. You know those stories that have you thinking all the way through. With questions running through your mind and your waiting for answers. This is one of those reads.
Great read with plenty of twists and turns. Didn’t see that ending coming which is a big plus from me. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
I'm familiar with Olokita's writing, but I didn't expect such a twist at the end of the book. It's not that the story is simple to read in terms of the plot, it continually surprises you over and over again, yet the ending is merely excellent.
