From the moment I started reading this book, I knew I was in for a treat. The flowing prose and sweet and gentle love story took me back to classics by Charlotte Bronte and Jane Austen - with a steampunk twist! Incredibly well thought out and enjoyable, I'm a fan! ...more

I really like the way in which the author wrote her descriptions. It felt like a Victorian steampunk Divergent by Veronica Roth. I need vol 2 now!

Clockwork Renegades is a charming romp through a steampunk world in political upheaval. I was a little thrown by a sudden change in tone that happens halfway through the book, going from fun and lighthearted to dark and grim, but a great read nonetheless. Need to read book 2 now. Beware the cliffhanger ending in book one.

So, I actually really enjoyed this.

It's refreshing to get my hands on some good fiction. I don't read a lot lately, because I'm doing a bunch of writing, but Clockwork Renegades was a nice piece to aspire to, as far as the craft of writing is concerned. The prose is lovely, and the atmosphere so delightfully steampunky that it was a whirlpool of needing to read more from the first chapter on.

This was so much fun!

I loved the world and the relationship between Alex and her father!

Ashleigh pulls you into a steampunk, war ravaged world with sweet, lovable characters. It's the first steampunk book I own and I love the little details littered throughout the book, expanding on the gearworked world.

I can't wait to read more.

Clockwork Renegades is a refreshing addition to the South African fiction scene. This Victorian steampunk pulls from parts of history and Hattingh Macfie's own unique imagination. The characters, especially Alex, grow a lot throughout the story and how they start out is very different to how they end, and the ending leaves you wanting book 2 to come out soon! ...more
