Drawing on stories from local folklore and fact, this work explores the saints whose names are commemorated in Scottish churches, towns, villages, farms, ruins, hills, wells and rivers. It explores the Scottish connection both at home and abroad.
Collection of lives, dedications, and cults in short vignettes. The whole project is quite helpful for the lay reader to establish some familiarity, both with the major national saints and with the forms of veneration which promoted them. An additional help which I had not anticipated is a thorough survey of the literature, which can be compiled from each chapter's end notes.
