The Wind Rages
After discovering the Inquisitor’s plot within the Academy, Tolan is offered a chance to go with his father and learn from the Draasin Lord. Doing so not only means turning against the Academy and everything he has come to know, but means the Inquisitors will succeed in their plan.
When the Grand Master comes to him asking a dangerous favor, Tolan must make a choice that might bring him into direct contact with the Draasin Lord.
Everything he’s been taught about the elementals and the Draasin Lord is wrong.
If he can stop Aela and the Inquisitors, he might be able to save the Academy, but the Draasin Lord has something else in mind for him.

Yeah this book finished me off for the series.
I think having a cheese grinder rubbed across my forehead might be more pleasant than trying to finish this series. I don't think the author even rereads what he's written whether that be the previous chapter or the previous books. He contradicts himself way too many times changes the sex of characters and completely Miss names characters. For example when referring to his friend Jonas he's referred to as Tanner at one point. There is also the sad back and forth wishy-washy false drama of the first 20%. I can only make it 20% more before I finally give up on this book.
There is strong idiot potting from the last book to this book. it seems to me that the author has the character do things just because that's the direction he wants to store to go into it. He has other characters contradict the main character simply to have something to go against. Unfortunately this has been going on for 3 and 1/2 books and when you see one character switch positions several times repeat it inference and questioning sessions you start to get an ulcer.
This story had a lot of potential and I was excited about elemental magic itself. Unfortunately you really don't see much of it though he's getting a little bit better in the descriptions everything is still described as shaped shaping or shapers.
The characters themselves still do not interact outside of the main character. In the first book his two friends had some funny back and forth and over the last two and a half books despite being friends they might have had a paragraph and a half of interaction. Now suddenly in this book he throws a random romance element in that is a poke in the eye particularly because as much as you want it to have happen there's no lead up to it
Overall this series suffers from the author producing quantity over quality. It was likely quickly published not long after written. I can see perhaps one or two quick edits that still miss a buttload of stuff. I feel like I'm starting to rant at this point but I really wanted to see some cool stuff and instead I see a character running in place for the better part of 3 and 1/2 books.

Another great read!
I love these books! The characters, their development, the plot, the twists, the turns. All of it comes together with a wonderful world to produce another fantastic chapter in this series. Bring on the next book!

And we're back with more adventures of Tolan, the not so subtle Harry Potter replicant. Here in Book 5 we've got a twist: the Draasin Lord has some plans for Tolan, who ends up reuniting with his father and questions all that he has learned from the Academy and his teachers. You didn't think this was going to be another by the numbers book where Tolan stumbles around learning things, did you?
Well, there's still a lot of that here. I accidentally read the books out of order so I found out Tolan met up with his dad in Book 5. It was somewhat confusing, but perhaps not as much as one might think.
Does it make this bad? Again, perhaps I'm wearying of the series but it really did feel like the book could have been condensed into a trilogy rather than an entire series.
Recommend borrowing the series overall.

The book has become so repetitive at this point. I feel like he’s forgotten skills he had from the very first book. Every other page it’s just a rewording of the same abstract phrase about shaping. Honestly the only reason I’m still reading is I wanna reach the end and have invested too much time into this

Dnf at like 80%.
I was just soo confused (I couldn’t really follow the events really well as some sequences seemed really inconsistent) and got bored after some time. There was no chemistry between Tolan and Ferrah and their whole relationship felt soo forced. I just couldn’t bring myself to read the last few chapters.

I can't quite figure out the loyalty or intentions of the Grand Master. Even Tolan's loyalty is questionable, as the Grand Inquisitor points out that Tolan is a complicated and difficult man. However, it seems Tolan is simply aligning himself with the elementals.
I was surprised by the romance between Tolan and Ferrah; I initially thought they only had a platonic relationship and that Ferrah might end up with Jonas. As for Jonas, his loyalty is uncertain and unpredictable, and I believe he might betray Tolan if things get tough, unlike Ferrah, who has consistently shown solid support and loyalty to Tolan.

As per Master Minden, she has a lot of secrets. If I were Tolan, she would be the only one I would trust. Although mysterious, she seems to have a strange connection or liking towards Tolan.

Help me read more books
Thankfully, the Harry Potter vibes have left in this book #4 portion of the story, though there's still (some) echoes of the other story in this one, but for the most part, it's a pretty well done story that stands on it's own without many Potterisms in it. I appreciate that. This one was nearly good enough for me to award it 4 stars, so if you're a fan of the series so far, by all means, pick up this one, and be happy with the purchase. I'm really liking the way this one is turning out, looking forward to the next one in the series, just not right away. Need to move to another genre for a while. I'll get back to this one in a little while.

I have to admit I was way wrong but sort of right too. If your reeding this series you’ll know what I mean. I am enjoying the twist and turns that D.K. accomplished with the telling of this series. I didn’t say anything before but I keep wondering about the duel between Tolan and Draln why D.K. dropped it. The schools testing replaced it??? Seems like something is missing and I keep looking for it to be referenced again. I’m not sure why it bothers me so.

Amazing!
This was probably my favorite of the series so far, mostly due to the character development. I started reading these books because of how different they appeared, while still representing the ever present battle of good and evil, of fighting for the truth and fending off the darkness. A wonderful read!

Strong characters, with a great story makes this series a pleasure to read and enjoy. I have read most of this author's books and enjoyed them. I believe you will also. Unique world, strong characters and a story line that keeps you wanting to turn the next page, will make you a believer to. Great Reading Everyone!

this continuing saga is by far the best I have read so far, I can't wait for the next book to come out to see just where this story is going to end up to all the characters involved. I have enjoyed their journey so far as it has so many directions that it can take the characters.

Some answers, more questions. A little short, but anything more would have been padding. As it is there were a few unnecessarily repeated thoughts. Kept me reading and interested. It’s not Modesitt or Hearn or Sanderson. But I was in the book and was the main character.

The writing style prevents me giving 5 stars
I dont know why; even though it is written well it seems to jar. Every now and again the immersion is broken and i struggle to get back in.
The storyline is great though. More could be done to make the protagonist more self aware without it seeming to be a harry potter rip off.
