"My Phonics Workbook: 101 Games and Activities to Support Reading Skills" starts off on an encouraging note: Three pages with a "star" for each one of the 101 activities. Children can color in the star for each activity that they complete, and then they can review their progress in a simple visual manner. This workbook is designed to help children ages 4 to 6 build the pre-reading skills needed for kindergarten. Activities and games are fun, and they hold a child's interest while developing essential phonics skills which will aid them in learning to read. Each colorful page features a different type of activity, and the difficulty level gradually increases as the child progresses through the book. Here are some of the cute page titles you'll find: "Busy, Buzzy Bee"; "In the Doghouse!"; "Dress the Dragon"; "Gorilla Grows Grapes"; "Henry Hunts for H Words"; "Jackrabbit Jumps for Joy"; "Lizard's Lawn Sale"; "Skunk's Skates"; "Vicky's Vacation"; and "Yak's Yacht". My favorite is "One Sweet Town"--Color the words on the path that begin with the "sw" sound. Then you can color the rest of the full-page picture. At the end of the book, there is a "Congratulations Certificate" to fill in with the child's name when all the activities are completed. Author Laurin Brainard has created a helpful and happy learning guide that will be enjoyable for children and parents to use together.

I have a four year old that is heading into Kindergarten in the fall. She LOVES doing homework. Mostly because she gets to spend time with her older siblings (and sometimes me or Dad) but mostly it's the siblings. I have 4 kids, two sons and two daughters. My oldest son is 22, followed by my 17 year old son, 15 year old daughter and then there's baby girl who's 4. My oldest has moved out but my teens are in high school now and it seems they've always got homework. That's where the love of doing homework came from my four year old. From early on, she'd grab crayons and paper and sit with her siblings and work. Once she got her ABC's and Numbers down I started looking for educational books for her to actually work on. When Callisto Publishing offered me this copy of My Phonics Workbook: 101 Games and Activities to Support Reading Skills I jumped at the chance. It's perfect for my little learner. Every day we sit and go through the book. We don't stick to one page at a time or work in order but we hop around the book doing whatever activity catches her fancy. My little girl is catching on quick AND having tons of fun in the process. It's easy for the teens to help her if I'm cooking dinner or occupied too which is what makes this perfect!

Beginning with simple recognition of the alphabet and their sounds, this book moves into identifying the vowels and combining consonants to form short words. With word scramble games and coloring puzzles, this book is sure to engage the attention of young children!
There is a chart at the beginning where the child can track their progress through all the activities, and color in the star when they have finished each page. There is also a cute certificate at the end of the book proclaiming the child to be a "Phonics All-Star"!
The colorful illustrations make this book really special. The games, puzzles, connect the dots, and secret messages really make learning fun!
This is a wonderful workbook to get beginning readers excited about learning!

When I was a kid, I loved doing variety puzzles to test and sharpen my intellect. My Phonics Workbook is a book filled with 101 of the same types of games and activities that I loved doing as a child. The fact that this book also serves as a way of sharpening your child's reading skills is a bonus - learning, in fact, should be fun!
This is the perfect way to keep your kids minds sharp during summer vacation, long car rides, and on rainy days.

My Phonics Workbook Makes Phonics Fun for 4-6 YOs
What a terrific children’s sound and reading learning book. It provides over 100 games and activities to stimulate the reading and aural agility of your young readers.
Both of my parents were avid readers and instilled that love, passion, and stimulating pastime in all of their children. This workbook provides a huge range of illustrations and games to foster the love and skill of reading in your children.
What a terrific present from a grandparent, auntie or uncle as the holiday season fast approaches.
Highly recommend.
