The Broons 1980 annual, published late in August 1979. The Broons annuals commenced with the 1940 edition, published late in 1939, and have been issued bi-annually for each even numbered year ever since (excepting 1944 and 1946 when there was a war-time paper shortage). They have always been published during the September of the odd year before - in common with nearly all annuals, publishing during the August or September before is done to capture the Christmas market. The Broons annual alternates with the 'Oor Wullie' annual (which is produced for odd years but printed during the preceding September's even year) and both have become iconic and much loved Scottish institutions.
