The Dead Moon Circus is probably my least favorite of the Sailor Moon arcs because I find the whole pegasus thing so utterly ridiculous (yes, even by Sailor Moon standards) as well as that it continues to center heavily on Chibiusa, who I really don't like either. But there are a lot of components of it that I do like! "Found family" is a really big theme in this volume in particular, in both the inner and outer senshi--of whom we get to see a return! Seeing chapters focus more specifically on some of the other guardians is nice, too, though they do get very repetitive at times and ultimately all have the same resolution. Points for Usagi calling her parents to say she was staying over at her boyfriend's and that "Our relationship is very pure!" though.

I liked this one, especially since Chibi-Usa started showing interest in someone besides her future dad. Maybe now she'll stop that horrifying crush and cease competing with her future mom. So much ick. I do wish she would go back to her time, but it seems she is here to stay. There's a lot of focus on her, and I miss seeing more of the other characters.

Ogromny krok w tył po świetnym poprzednim tomie. Jeszcze raz przeczytam gdzieś „nie mogę być w nim zakochana, to przecież mój przyszły ojciec” to nie wytrzymam.

Doomed by the narrative and/or being sapphic is *the* requirement for being a magical girl

Neptune and Uranus are canonically married and raising a child on a farm, this is the cottagecore lesbian dream before it was invented. I’m feeling delirious

Definitely not my favorite arc. It dragged on way too long, the Dead Moon villains weren’t really intimidating and I found the whole Pegasus thing to be rushed and boring.

I was interested in seeing more of the Sailor Scouts going over their motivations. We see more of Ami’s family and the triad of the outer planet scouts raising Hotaru who aged faster than Renesmee.

Again, why have Chibiusa in love with with her father? Was it necessary?

this is the one with the blue Ferrari! it's been a long time since I read these, but I remember that detail as much as remember Momo-chan's 'illness' and even more . . . Helios. Chibi Usa and her very own romance (NOT with her dad, for once). Helios is just as perfect as I remember. sigh.

It’s a little repetitive, but so is eating pasta for dinner for the third night this week, and I don’t have an issue with that.

I am so over Chibi-Usa's weird attraction to her own father. And Mamoru just accepting it?? You're in a real relationship with someone, and when that person asks for your attention and a moment alone together (which is rare cause it's always interrupted by Chibi), you give it to them!!! I also did not like that this volume was almost entirely centred on Chibi-Usa cause I'm not a fan of her.

I sort of love-hate the pacing of the Sailor Moon series. They've just won a battle and the next enemy's here already. Do the enemies have a giant group chat where they inform when the next one can enter the scene? It wouldn't have hurt to put in a few chapters where the characters just relax.

The Dead Moon arc's already becoming my least favourite one but yayyy! we got almost an entire chapter of the Outer Senshi's daily life with Baby Hotaru and them basically being a huge family!!

Fantastic entry. The beginning of the Pegasus saga from the anime. It's much darker than the show I grew up with. It amazes me how much filler was put into the original anime. I look forward to book 8.

I really loved reading this manga and getting to see the Dark Moon circus in action. I enjoy the villains and the new superpowers that the sailor guardians got.

I thought of this opposition group as the "divide and conquer circus." But of course they discovered that the sailors are strong individually as well as together. The "divide" aspect of the plot really reconnected the story with the individual sailors this volume, and with the dreams and non-sailor characters important to them. It's so interesting to see who gives the sailors their new crystals, and how in a few cases it's that sailor themself.

I really appreciate the introduction of Helios as a character. On one hand, his character design is very cool, and while Elysium being another secret kingdom important to the earth was a little much, his connection to Mamo/Endymion strengthened Endymion's connected to planet earth. I also appreciate that Helios provided a new crush for Chibi so she can finally get over HER DAD.

While the size swap between Usagi and Chibi didn't last long, I enjoyed it. I appreciate that it wasn't a body swap (like the trope), and that it was relevent to the desires and growth of the characters.

I've really come to love how much effort Naoko Takeuchi puts into the fashions of each character, even when I don't like a particular outfit. (I rarely like the opponent's outfits or designs.) I particularly love the sailors in button downs and suits.

I love the chapter about Hotaru and her three-parent family. I love her nicknames for them, "Haruka-papa," "Setsuna-mama," "Michiru-mama." And I enjoyed how she's the kid in their situation but she still holds so much power and is the one to give them their new crystals.

As always, I appreciate the translation notes. This volume had some notes about finding adequate translations for the puns!

Certain aspects of this series feel dated (like the antagonist women wearing showy clothing) but other aspects feel way ahead of its time (like a genderqueer sailor). I'm loving this revisit.

I think this volume might actually be my favorite so far? It started out slow (age reversal really isn't my thing) but that didn't really stick around too long.

Things I loved:

1) The book actually acknowledged that Chibi's fixation on her dad is weird and a little uncomfortable.

2) Mamoru is a DELICATE FLOWER and it's GREAT.

3) Seriously though, they actually have him playing the role that is usually only filled by girls. Think about it, how many books/movies/shows are there where there is a group of boys and one token girl who:
- has a caretaker-type personality
- has powers are weaker than the others except when the plot makes an exception
- has some sort of psychic-empathy and/or precognition ability
- maybe sometimes saves the day but more often needs to be rescued
- and/or whose health is directly tied to the earth/reflects the growing evilness of the bad guys?

To be clear, this is not a bad thing. It's refreshing! Mamoru is cOuGhInG uP bLoOd and it's gREAT.

4) Ickle Hotaru is adorable.

5) *chants* Saturn, Saturn, Saturn, Saturn!

OK I think I liked this book more than any of the other books. It’s a reawakening of all the sailor soldiers they have been reborn after book 6 where they all died and were brought back because sailor Saturn the destroyer of worlds had awakened. But this book follows the dead moon circus seeking to take over the earth and kill the guardians. The sailor scouts all receive their new crystals in order to transform along with some new powers a new weapons and the sailor scouts that left in the previous book sailor Pluto sailor Neptune sailor Uranus and sailor Saturn plan on returning to help them fight the dead moon circus. However Darien has come down with a black lung sickness and hasn’t been able to fight at all sailor moon has been concerned that she visits him as much as she can and at the end of this book she now has the black lung sickness.

I think what I liked so much about this book was that the the acknowledged what they thought their dreams were for their dream life and then they had to fight off those dreams in a sense because of the dead moon Circus which distorted their dreams and it was really a good reminder to focus on your dreams and not get your in your own way

And anything I say below this point is just a reminder of what this book was about and what I learned as I read it

So I am reading sailor moon eternal edition book 7 and they’re all watching an eclipse and only the sailor guardians see a ship fly out and it looks like it has the dead moon circus Yep there are clouds in this it’s kind of creepy.

Sailor Mars (Rei) has two crows/ravens Phobos and Deimos. She also reads tarot cards. P 16

In act 39 dream one eclipse dream we are introduced to zirconia and her granddaughters the Amazoness Quartet.

Chibi Usa (Rini) dreams about the Pegasus Helios and he gives her a bell to ring if she ever needs help because he also wants to save Elysium. P39

* Elysion is the capital of the Golden Kingdom of Earth ruled by Prince Endymion during the Silver Millenium, with Helios as its guardian.

* Its name is similar to Elysium, a happy afterlife in Greek mythology.

So these clowns are coming to attack them and one of zirconias daughters attacks them with lemures which are basically evil tribbles.

Oh and this is when we are introduced to super sailor moon and the crisis moon compact. P 56

Helios gives them new powers through the moon kaleidoscope and the Chibi moon kaleidoscope. It is believed he gave them the new crisis moon compact.

After a fight with the Amazoness quartet and Zirconia warns them of Queen Nehellenia’s wrath. 65

In mercury‘s dream you find out that her father was an artist and her mom is a doctor and they didn’t get along and so her father left and she only gets postcards from him.

When mars visits the fun house mirrors you’re informed that her mother died when she was young and her father is a politician who left her at her grandfathers because he didn’t want to take care of her.

This also seems to be the book where the sailor scouts get their new transformation brooches but also become more in tune with their planet and their element.

Mars weapons:
Flame sniper

Jupiter:
Strength
Oak leaves
Thunder and lightning

A recent development is that Helios the Pegasus kissed Chibiusa/Rini and now all she thinks about is him because she saw him in his human form. He seems to be in trapped in a cage by the queen Nehellenia who was the queen of the dead moon who blames the sailor guardians for the destruction of the dead moon in their past when they lived on the white moon during the silver millennium. P 184

Tuxedo mask is sick and coughing up blood the circus is attacking the sailor scouts one by one turning their dreams and nightmares. And Helios is only able to connect with the seller scares occasionally trying to escape from his cage we find out when he’s with sailor moon Chibuzor and tuxedo mask or Darien that he is the priest of Elysium which is a land that is insideAnd protects it. He is also the guardian of Darien.

OK it turns out that the dead moon lives inside the new moon and that the people of the dead moon want to take over the light of the new moon and the Silver millennium and rule over the earth

Helios tells them that they need to crystals they need to combine the golden crystal which they don’t know where it is with the mystical Silver Crystal and apparently only Sailor Moon can do it p 238

Meanwhile sailor Venus hasn’t been able to transform all the other sellers have been able to once they’re kind of spirit guide reaches them and give them their new transformation bridge but she has not received hers yet. She runs into the fray of the dead moon circus idol competition and now her life is in danger the sailor scouts have come to help her but she’s on a precipice. Now it skips to sailor Uranus/Harris Ten’ô and sailor Neptune/Michiru Kaiô and how they have been living happily for six months. Sailor Neptune is a famous violinist and sailor Uranus is a Formula One test driver.

Now don’t forget that Uranus and Neptune took on baby sailor Saturn/Hotaru whose sole purpose as a guardian is to destroy the world when she becomes aware of who she really is they took her when she was reborn as a baby and it looks like she is a toddler. Sailor Pluto is living with them now sailor Pluto is the guardian of the gate of space and time however her present identity in Tokyo she I guess is a nurse But also may be a scientist because she works at an observatory observing space but her online record says she’s a nurseand her name is Setsuna Meiou. P 284

And now I’m left on a cliffhanger at the end of act 44 dream six new soldiers dream ..the soldiers Pluto, Saturn, Neptune and Uranus are preparing to come together while the regular soldier, Mars, Venus, Mercury and Jupiter fight fight the Amazoness Quartet. Meanwhile Sailor Moon is visiting Darien and now Darien’s black lung sickness seems to have been passed on to Sailor Moon.

Yay! No short stories. Unfortunately, I was kinda eh when I realized what arc we'd be doing. The for us arc is when I stopped watching Sailor Moon cuz the begining felt really lame as a kid. Even as an adult, I was ...unimpressed. Remember, I do love this series, but...this wasn't it for me. The villains are so formulaic. Sailor has a dream, bad guy is like bUt wHaT iF yOu gAvE uP and the sailor doubts for a bit before going nah, I'm gonna follow my dream. DESTROY BAD GUY.

Lame.

I find the storyline w Mamoru lying about his illness to also be predictable and lame.

We also bring back more creepy daughter dad incest vibes and it needs to STOP, I SWEAR TO GOD.

(Also very lame to give Chibi Usa a dude love interest. Lame.)

Does this Oedipus complex ever end? Do we have to be reminded of it constantly?

Each sailor getting their moment and evolving is really satisfying though. I always liked that part.
