I received a copy of The Immortal Prudence Blackwood through NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review, so thank you NetGalley and BHC Press for my copy.

Prudence Blackwood is an immortal. She has lived for centuries, and seen some of the most horrific crimes in history. Including those infamous killers who were never caught - Jack the Ripper, the Atlanta Ripper, and the Cleveland Torso Murderer, to name a few. But were they really never caught? Did they really just disappear?

It's now 1947, and

Do you know that feeling? You see a title and you just know that you are going to love it? That was me at the start of The Immortal Prudence Blackwood. And it did not disappoint! Everything i love was in this amazing read, part fantasy, part thriller, historical, crime and even a little part horror.
An immortal woman becoming a killer to kill serial killers, what is not to like? The way the writer takes you back and forth between the present and the past Prudence has lived in is so vivid. It abs

I received an advance review copy of this novel from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review and this is it.

I am not much of a fantasy reader, and I would classify this novel as a historical fantasy, but the plot line intrigued me. Prudence Blackwood, (the name makes me picture a romantic heroine standing on the fog shrouded moors of 19th Century England) is immortal and invulnerable to any conventional weapons. We really have no idea why, but this novel ends with a prom

I put this into the DNF category twice. This is a short book, so I decided to finish, but I honestly skimmed through a lot of the non-Prudence parts. I couldn't handle the way those sections were written.
This book was all over the place. I liked the Prudence Blackwood portions, other than the 'how she became immortal' part, which was silly. Her portions were surprisingly violent and graphic, even if some of the characters she encountered were a little over the top, regarding who they were. The w

***Thanks to NetGalley for providing me a complimentary copy of THE IMMORTAL PRUDENCE BLACKWOOD by Stephanie Grey in exchange for my honest review.***

The Immortal Prudence Blackwood follows a woman whom you learn to be immortal lacks a purpose when her bloodline dies and she is left alone in the world. She ends up taking on the task of taking down serial killers.

Stephanie Grey wrote the book in a unique fashion, with a back and forth between the present and the past Blackwood has lived in. I wa

DNF at 2%. I like to give a book at least until 5% or so, but I can already tell that the writing style of this book won't work for me. Phrases and sentennces like "Prudence glimpsed back toward their path home," " her eyes darting around from symbol to symbol, uncomprehending of their meaning," and "Prudence shook her head slihtly and nodded" are all proving too distracting and pulling me out of the story. The premise sounds interesting, and I'm sure the story will speak to some readers, just n ...more

DNF @ 44%

The premise is fascinating, but I just can't seem to get on with the writing: the dialogue, the pacing, the monologues and moralizing. Lots of cliches in the characterization mean that my focus has to be almost exclusively on the plot, and that just doesn't work for me.

The book starts simply enough. Prudence Blackwood and her niece, Anna Maria, exploring and hiking near their home in Albany County, New York circa 1785. The happy scene turns tragic when Prudence dies, but she does not stay dead.

I really like the mythos created by Stephanie Grey in The Immortal Prudence Blackwood, but as you will read mentioned several times in my review, I wanted more, more, more! We do get a little back story as to why and how Prudence becomes immortal. I suppose it may have b

2.5 stars. The main portion of this story takes place in Washington, DC in 1947. Clive O'Reilly is on the trail of a bloodthirsty serial killer, whose MO seems to be shooting victims, decapitating them, staking them back together and leaving them in public tourist areas. The killer has thus far eluded police, and Clive receives a tip about an immortal woman who will be the one to catch the kill

The Immortal Prudence Blackwood is a historical police procedural with a paranormal/fantasy twist.

Prudence Blackwood is a barren and abandoned twenty-six-year-old when she stumbles into a mysterious and ancient hall in 1785. After cutting her finger on the wall, Prudence dies. Two days later, she arises out of her grave and returns to her family home. Except for her ten-year-old niece, her family rejects her, calling her a demon. After learning she is an immortal, and not the only one, she vows

I enjoyed this book as a quick and easy read. It would be a good beach read.

The premise is that Prudence Blackwood becomes immortal by accident and as time goes by she decides that her purpose is to eliminate some of histories most notorious killers; Jack the Ripper, the Atlanta Ripper, the Cleveland Torso Murderer and even a few Nazis.

This book offers an interesting premise which I thoroughly enjoyed. Overall, I enjoyed the writing style of the author and the progression of the story. There were a few things that I wish had been expanded upon, namely the beginning of the novel. The beginning starts off really quick and immediately gives the reader a bunch of information about Prudence and her special abilities, but it isn't developed as much as I would have liked. The novel does flash back and forth through the ins

Prudence Blackwood is an Immortal from the 1790's and since that time has been after serial killers who were never caught, think Jack the Ripper, the Cleveland Torso Murderer, the Atlanta Ripper.
Back in 1947 in Washington, D.C. a dangerous murderer has boldly discarded two headless bodies nearby the White House and the Jefferson Memorial. With no leads, Detective Clive O’Reilly is feeling desperate and when a stranger tells him a wild tale about Prudence Blackwood, an immortal who seeks vengeanc

Prudence Blackwood is the perfect read for those who like a little murder, some supernatural occurrences and a fairly engaging story

The part I loved the most about this novel (novella?) was that Prue had all the immortality and bloodlust of a vampire but there was no blood sucking or neck biting (for the most part) in order to get her there. I also quite enjoyed that despite her being the title character, Prudence was not the only star of this show; I genuinely felt for Clive throughout and love

Did you ever read a description of a book and just know that you were going to LOVE it? And then when you started reading, you were concerned that it wasn't going to live up to the high expectations that you set for it? That was me at the start of The Immortal Prudence Blackwood. I am very happy to report, that this book did not disappoint. It did, in fact, live up to everything that I thought it would be.

I found this to be a very entertaining book. The story was different and, really, quite clever. I enjoyed that it was set in 1947, with flashbacks to earlier times to explain Prudence’s experiences. However, I would have liked a little more explanation about her personal life; but, maybe, the author is planning more books about Prudence and her life will gradually unfold for us. Because this book does seem like an episode in a series—a first episode with some kinks needing to be worked out. Whil ...more

The premise of this book was interesting and it plunges you straight into the action by detailing Prudences’ backstory and giving the reader background information. I enjoyed the authors writing style, especially the diary/flashback sections and the story moved along quickly.
However for me there seemed to be a lack of depth and detail in the narrative. I felt that the story was written almost at the expense of the characters who never seemed to have quite enough time to really ‘sing’ on the pag

Prudence Blackwood is an immortal...she can't be hurt or killed. She believes that her purpose is to destroy the evil in the world. The primary story is set in Washington DC in 1947...there is a serial killer murdering men and dismembering the corpses, leaving them near monuments. Through journal entries we learn how Prudence became immortal and about the killers she took down. This is a very interesting premise, at times it seemed a bit disjointed but I enjoyed the story very much. At the end P ...more

Prudence Blackwood was your average colonial woman until a series of strange circumstances lead her to becoming immortal. Lost, she eventually finds her purpose hunting down serial killers. Her methods may be unorthodox but they yield results. Fast forward to Washington D.C. in the 1970s Detective Clive O’Reilly has a serial killer on his hands and he is going to need Prudence's help to stop this killer.

I found the premise of The Immortal Prudence Blackwood interesting, and the story did keep my attention. However, I only rated this book 3/5 stars because I found the writing sadly lacking in detail. The character of Prudence was not fully brought to life for me. I found myself wanting more detail about her, and why she is actually immortal. The book was fairly short, at only 208 pages, so there was definitely space to add in these details that would have fully fleshed out the story for me and a ...more

There is a serial killer operating in Washington, D.C. of 1947. Detective Clive O’Reilly is leading the increasingly frustrating investigation. Then he meets Edwin Moses who tells him the unbelievable story of Prudence Blackwood and how she helps by tracking down serial killers. Then O'Reilly meets her.

The premise of this book was interesting. An immortal woman finding and punishing killers who are skillful enough to avoid being caught by the police. Prudence as an immortal has time to gather assets and practice martial arts, fighting and weapons. I did not like the writing style. It was so rigid and free of emotion. I could not like Prudence. But on the other hand Clive and Frankie were real and likable characters. This was a nice read.

Prudence Blackwood is immortal and sets out to stop the most dangerous killers. She found Jack the ripper and many others. Now shes off to Washington to stop another.

This was an interesting story and I liked hearing about her other cases but it wasnt as good as I thought it would be. It's a short read but at times it lacked detail. I liked the developing relationship between Clive and Sharon though. The ending was good and left it open for another story.

The blurb for this book caught my eye, as I thought it had a unique storyline. I like the characters and the plot. It was a bit slow in some places but it was still interesting. I would have liked more of the story to focus on Prudence. I think just a book about her and following her through the years would be great. All in all, good story, characters could have been developed a bit more.

Very well written! Interesting story line of the Immortals. I’m hoping for more stories about them! Somewhat gory details so be prepared! I enjoy murder mysteries so it didn’t bother me. Again, great story development. I had no clue as to the killer until about 2 pages before they were revealed! I highly recommend this book!
