CANADA IN PIECES
Sometime in the near future a major war breaks out in the Middle East. The oil fields in the region are destroyed. As the price of oil "explodes" around the world, the Canadian government takes action directed at Canadian oil producing regions that will leave "Canada in Pieces."

His first novel, but hopefully not his last. Wallace provides a well-researched and thought-provoking view of how a seemingly peaceful nation can crumble when forced to deal with unresolved issues. Throughout the book the reader gets the impression of being in the room listening in on the difficult conversations and decisions that are being made at lightning speed. Nice blend of drama, action, history, and politics. It's a gripping novel with an ending that leaves the reader satisfied and contemplative.

Review of "Canada in Pieces by Craig Wallace"
I picked up this book at Craig's Book Signing Launch, where he made a small presentation of what is covered in the book. Craig is a very well spoken person (not surprisingly - he has been a college Instructor as well as being a corporate Human Resources Manager for many years), and explained the premise of his story and why he feels that it is something that could happen in the near future.
Basically, most middle eastern petroleum sources are destroyed or rendered unusable by nuclear fallout, setting the stage an energy shortage that makes the line ups at gas stations in the seventies look like a happy street party in comparison. Everything following this seams like it is quite probable, and almost inevitable.
Craig packs his book with plenty of information on the background issues involving all his characters, including Treaties, applicable Laws, and common behavior. His characters OOZE reality, from a hot headed Mohawk young man, to a couple of bored drunk sailors stuck on warship in harbor, to a suddenly overwhelmed border control officer. His characterization of Canadian, American and British politicians feels "Real", and like many good books will leave you thinking about the issues raised after your done.
Disclaimer and Bottom Line: I have known Craig for many years - But I really liked this book, once I started, I couldn't put it down until I finished it. A Great read.

This novel was like Philip K Dick alternative reality meets Homer's battle scenes. It's an exciting and interesting mix of "what-ifs" from Canadian politics and fight scenes described in violent detail, with enough bloodshed to make the Illiad seem tame.
But behind the entertainment are poignant conjectures on what could quickly happen to Canada if the world's political climate took a sudden change. I was fascinated by Wallace's use of research to support the direction of the events as the story unfolds. While the events may seem unbelievable, Wallace shows just close we are to their reality: the foundation for crisis has been laid and the cracks are growing.
All of this intellectual thought and compelling story is nicely wrapped up in fascinating characters that draw you into their mindset and decision making. Through their dialogue, the reader comes to appreciate the complexity of the characters' difficult decisions to do what they think is best.
I look forward to Wallace's next book!

Craig Wallace’s latest book, Canada in Pieces, is a well written, action-filled political story that takes the reader through a scenario-that of an external threat to Canada-that pushes the boundaries of governance and makes the reader aware that our great land has some serious cracks in its foundation.
The characters in the book are strong and believable and in certain places the scenarios are so very reminiscent of what has been happening in real time; it makes me question, does Wallace have a crystal ball? I really enjoyed reading his latest book, not only because I was entertained but educated on aspects of our country’s history that I was not aware of.
Well researched and written, this book will not disappoint!

Awesome novel! Interesting premise, provocative and suspenseful. You don’t want to put it down! Great if you love politics, but equally gratifying if you like a good story. Very current for today’s political landscape in Canada. A must read!
