Fortunes of Fate #8

The Fate of a Highland Rake

Rate this book
Reginald Sinclair’s family had thought him dead. He may as well have been. When an accident swept him out to sea and wiped his memory clean, he began a new life. Actually, new wasn’t the correct word, it implied better. His second existence was full of filth and ruin. It made him a lesser man. And now that he had his memory back, how could he resume that old life? He was no longer worthy. When he meets the beautiful gypsy, Rihanna, he is certain he doesn’t deserve her either. He’ll deny the temptation she poses, even as he helps her. But he isn’t all good anymore and she is far too beautiful to be ignored.

Rihanna is certain that Reginald Sinclair is either a wolf in disguise or an angel sent from Heaven. When the cards encourage her to travel to Scotland with him, she listens. Is she traveling with a handsome devil or an angel? Will he be her savior or her ruin?

For years, the Sinclair family thought Reginald was lost to the sea as he tried to save his younger sister. But Fate had other plans for him, a different life and no memory of who he really was. Now back in the loving folds of his family’s arms, his memory restored, guilt for the type of man he was through his amnesia, Reginald has vowed to protect those who cannot protect themselves.

Rihanna needed saving and when she literally bumped into Reginald, something told him to help the beautiful gypsy. Would he also be helping himself to heal? It was in the cards, so Rihanna and her young sister accepted his invitation to come to Scotland to work for his family, but Fate had other plans…

Tammy Andresen’s THE FATE OF A HIGHLAND RAKE completes Reginald’s story and puts to finish another heartwarming tale of romance found. Perhaps just a tad too abrupt for my liking, I wanted a little more of something. I can’t say it felt rushed, it just felt like a piece was missing. Still, another delightful tale from Ms. Andresen that left me smiling.

This short story was not hurried and had plenty going on. It was nicely written and even though it was short, I enjoyed reading it. 3☆

The Fate of a Highland Rake is the final book in Tammy Andresen’s Brethren of Stone series, along with being a story in the Fortunes of Fate series. Despite being a part of two series, it works perfectly fine as a standalone novel, as all Tammy Andresen stories do.

As much as I love Tammy Andresen’s stories – she’s a guilty pleasure read, offering up quick historical romances I’m happy to devour – I was a wee bit tentative about this one. The Brethren of Stone series was based around the death of the lead character in this one, and as happy as many fans were to find out he was still alive, I was one of those people that was unsure about it. It allowed for another nice little story, but a part of me was overanalysing the timeline and events to doublecheck everything.

My need to assess everything aside, fans of the Brethren of Stone series will want to read this little extra. It’s a very quick read, one that can be completed faster than the usual Tammy Andresen read, providing a quick little conclusion to the series. It wasn’t my favourite in the series, as there wasn’t the level of drama as was found in the other books, but it’s a great way to conclude the series.

It’s certainly worth reading for those wanting to close off the Brethren of Stone series.

I was a little disappointed with this story, it has so much potential but was very short, it finished at 75%. It was an enjoyable read but could have been developed into so much more. The characters were likeable and they helped each other to come to terms with their pasts. I was fortunate to have read previous books by the author where Reg’s accident had occurred. I would have liked to have read more about Rihanna’s past.

Rhianna was trying to get away from the man chasing her, but the docks were so full of people and nowhere to hide. He hadn't liked the fortune she gave him so he wanted his money back. She needed it desperately to help feed her little sister.
Reginald Sinclair was deep in thought as he walked down the busy London dock, when suddenly he was bumped into by a woman. After she told him what happened and the man caught up, he took care of everything and gave her some money for food.
Fate seemed to step in that day because Reginald was trying to figure out his life but was having a really hard time. After losing his memory many years ago he had not lived the best of lives. But until recently, when his memory returned, he had no idea how he had been.
A wonderful journey of two people, each trying to make a new life and when he asks her to sail with him and his ship to Scotland she takes a chance and she and her little sister go. But he doesn't feel he is worthy of her and she is slow to trust.
The final story in the Brethren of the Stone, ending with Reginald who was lost in the first book. What a great ending that could only bring a sigh as I turned the last page. Cannot wait for more from this amazing author!

Reginald Sinclair’s family had thought him dead for over a decade. When an accident swept him out to sea whilst trying to rescue his little sister and wiped his memory clean, he began a new life. His second existence was full of filth and ruin. It made him a lesser man. Now that he had his memory back he wants to be worthy again. When he meets the beautiful gypsy, Rihanna, he is certain he doesn’t deserve her either. Rihanna is certain that Reginald Sinclair is either a wolf in disguise or an angel sent from Heaven. When the cards encourage her to travel to Scotland with him, she listens.
A lovely novella that as well as being part of the brilliant Fate of Fortunes series it’s also the conclusion to the Brethren of the Stone series so two reasons to read & love it. The author is the mistress of the novella, she always manages to pack so much detail into these short stories & this is no exception, ideal for an afternoon read or reading late at night & knowing you will get some sleep!
Whilst it could be read on its own it, I’ve loved the whole Brethren series & felt satisfied at its conclusion. Reg & Rihanna both lacking in self esteem find each other & bring out the best in each other

2.5 rounded up

I was so excited at the end of the last book when I discovered that Reginald hadn't died and that his was the next book. Sadly, for me, it just fizzled. It was sort of like -- Reginald survived, he met a girl, they went to Scotland, they got married -- End of Story. I mean, technically there isn't anything wrong with the story, but it is just about as blah as you can get without falling asleep. There is no real excitement - no villain - no real conflict. It was just mostly as I described above - they met, they married. It was very, very short as well.

I've been waiting for Reginald's story since I read the first book in this series. I refused to believe that he was dead. Thank you, Tammy, for keeping him alive! Though the characters were well developed I wish there would have been more time to delve into Reginald's life as a sailor. Still, I enjoyed the story very much and highly recommend it.

A delightful ending to the Brethren of Stone series, the story has the romance and adventure one has come to expect from this author. Rihanna is on the run and literally barrels into Reginald Sinclair on the docks. After more than a decade of not knowing who he was, Reg has done things that he is ashamed of. With the return of his memory, he knows that it is time to turn his life around. With those thoughts uppermost in his mind, when Rihanna needs his help, he knows that he cannot let her or his family down by acting on old impulses. Added to the mix is Rihanna's little sister and she plays an important part in making him turn his back on the past. I have enjoyed the entire series and this novelette wraps up the lives of the brothers Sinclair in a neat package. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

The Fate Of A Highland Rake is a fabulous historical romance by Tammy Andresen. This is a quick read, perfect for those with limited reading time. Ms. Andresen has once more delivered a story that held me anchored to my e-reader from start to finish. Rihanna supports herself and her sister by telling fortunes. Reginald had 13 years of not remembering his family. Now that they've been reunited he feels unworthy of them. Rihanna and Reginald's story is loaded with drama, humor, sexy bits and a little suspense. I enjoyed this book and look forward to my next book by Tammy Andresen. The Fate Of A Highland Rake is part of the Fortunes of Fate Series and is also the final book of the Brethren of Stone Series but it can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from a third party. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A whirlwind romance between Reginald, a ship’s captain seeking redemption and Rihanna, a woman daring to trust. I would have liked to see more interaction with Madame Zeta, but still a cute read.

Reginald Sinclair was the last brother to marry - he had a loss of memory & his family thinking him dead for 13 years but now he has returned & remembered his past. He is not proud of the things he had done during the lost years & has vowed return to the man he was - kind, caring, helpful, honorable.

Rihanna was a gypsy who is caring for her little sister on the London streets by telling fortunes. Her mother, on her deathbed, made her promise to take her & her sister, Rosella to London & there she would find happiness. Well, that was 2 years ago & things were going from bad to worse.

Reg rescues Rihanna & Rosella & offers to take them back to his family where they will give her employment, food & sleeping quarters. Will Reg be tempted by the beauty, can she resist this sexy, kind Scottish ship Captain? This is a very short read but very good - just a sweet, loving family, romantic tale. I have enjoyed this whole series & have loved the entire group of siblings that swore to protect one another after their parents died. They accomplished this & now are all married with families - all stories were sweet, romantic with hunky Scots that you can't resist.

I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book; all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.

The Fate of a Highland Rake is the eight book in the Fortunes of Fate series and as with all the books in the series, it can be read as a standalone. I have not read all the books in the series but the ones I have are definitely worth reading and I am going to have to reread starting with the first book! This book is Reginald “Reg” Sinclair and Rihanna’s story. Reg had spent many years away from his family due to an accident in which he lost his memories. Now he regrets the decisions he made and thinks he is a lesser man due to his past deeds. He rescues Rihanna one day at the docks and wants to help her and her sister. He offers to take them to his family in Scotland and help them to find a job. He feels that helping them start a new life will make up for some of his misdeeds. Rhianna is a gypsy and has taken care of her young sister on the streets for several years. She doesn’t trust easily but her cards tell her to go with Reg. They each have their own feelings to overcome before they can have their HEA. The book was easy to read and hard to put down. It was a short book and I really wanted to read more. I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

She was his redemption
The Fate of a Highland Rake is part of the Fortunes of Fate Series and is also the final book of the Brethren of Stone Series The Sinclairs believed in helping others who are in need and this story showcases that. I really liked this couple and they were perfect for each other. Reginald and Rihanna both had parts in their life that they wished to put behind them. He enabled her to trusts again and she gave him a reason to be a better man. A quick read that I read in one day. I have enjoyed and read all of the Brethren of Stones books and this ends the series wonderfully.

Although I normally love this author, I wasn’t thrilled with the fact that she brought this character back from the dead. The whole series revolved around this character dying trying to save his sister. Then magically, at the end of the last book, surprise! He’s alive.
It reminded me of that old TV show, Dallas.

this is a series of books with each one having a different author. I only read the books from the authors I personally like to read. Some were better than others and super quick reads.

Short yet delightfully engaging!

Short yet enjoyably sweet and endearing tale that's full of heartmelting kindness, love and redemption.
Reginald fearful he can no longer be the kindhearted, good man of his past sees Rihanna as his only chance to redeem the last thirteen years spent as a sailor and the unspeakable acts he's done since tragically losing his memory. Gypsy Rihanna, who is eager to protect and feed her younger sister, desperately clings to hope as she suffers demoralising harshships simply to survive. A chance encounter unspeakably changes the life of all three for the better.
A touching tale that's interwoven with yearning, alluring attraction, instant connection and an unwavering desire to be a better person, born from a past that has been steeped heavily in conflicting moments of pain and brief glimpses of happiness.
A great addition to the series that forms a nice conclusion to the Brethen of Stone series. I only wish it were longer!!!
