I don't really have much of a reason not to give it 5 stars other than readability. It is more academic than I am used to, which may be why it was a tougher read for me than usual. Definitely felt more like drinking from a bit of a fire hose. But, it gave much American Baptist development. This is something I am ignorant in. Therefore, I appreciated the learning much.

Really insightful read as Brackney weaves Baptist history and ecclesiology together masterfully, but the archaic writing style made it really hard to read.

This book was one out of three of the textbooks used in my Bible College class, “The Church”. Out of the three textbooks for the class, this book was by far my least favorite book.

The readability in this book is AWFUL! I truly enjoy to read and I found myself dragging myself forward just to attempt to get to the next pages of the assigned reading. I do not remember much of the information from this book because the context was boring compared to the other books I was reading. This book also was expensive. It cost me $35. I read the entire book and was not impressed with these factors of the book.
