The Memory Stone #2

The Deadly Magician

Theus fled from Great Forks - he fled from the guards chasing after him, and the job with the memory stones, as well as his friends. Most painfully, he fled from Coriae, the fascinating daughter of the ancient house of nobility that had befriended him. He thought that he had a straight-forward path to escape the city - take a ship, work on a barge, voyage away from Great Forks, and when the troubles had passed, he planned to return to all that he left behind. But evil powers brewing in far-off places are spreading chaos across the world, and Theus becomes snared in the troubles that seem to have nothing to do with him, until he finds that he has fallen into the center of the evil. Desperate to escape, Theus manages to win small battles, and seems to be back on track towards the success he has envisioned for himself. But evil is not ready to let him go so easily.

Seriously?
It was a very good book until the end. I mean, holy crap the MC is ****ing dumb. "Ow, I have to go and save the princess, let's do it in the dumbest most suspicious way possible that will f-up everything".

Look, I know there has to be this "will they, won't they" crap every TV-series has to keep people watching but this was just stupid as hell. I mean, who in their right mind would go and steal shit when he just could have told her about the ring and what he wanted from it. Then he goes and says he hears voices without thinking he would sound completely insane or came up with the dumbest excuse possible.

He could have told her about the dream, said that he believes the mage sent it to him to lure him into a trap. Then he could have told her that he can fight him with the help of the little stone in the ring when she would obviously become upset that he is walking right into a trap. Then when she doesn't want to give him the ring because she is scared he will see her kill the prick prince, he could just say that he had seen that memory already, like he should have done weeks earlier.

That way, she would just stay and worry for him instead of this complete bullshit where they obviously will end up together in the end because of the insane amount of groundwork already put into this relationship. HE IS A FRAM BOY, not a retard(sorry for my use of that but I'm very frustrated right now.) he should have been able to handle that in a MUCH better way.

I don't know if Quyle is just a bad writer or he wants his MC to be incredibly stupid and unlikable or he is just a dick.
The ending just ruined the whole series and we are only half way. The MC has done some stupid shit already but that was mostly something you shake your head at. This was just monumentally stupid in every single way. Only way it could have been done worse by the MC is if he would have killed everyone in the house and then bathe in their blood while laughing like a maniac.

FFS!

DNF 24%. Middle-grade, no plot arc.

I recently came across this novel and realised I'd read book one in the series. Admittedly I didn't recall much about it but thought I'd give the sequel a try. I couldn't last long.

Theus has the mind of a small child, never seeming to have any goals or agency. He just listens to "the voice" and does what he's told. He, and the reader, know little about the long game, nor why it's important... things just happen and we move on.

Just doesn't live up to its promise

Varies from a book for teenagers to a book with an interesting take on a person who is given knowledge of medicine, horticulture and stones in a long ago time. However, as with the first book, there's too much time spent on the appeal to younger readers. So I don't think this is a novel for adults.

A good story line. I look forward to the next book in the adventure. However, the author needs a better proof-reader. Quite a few misspellings, wrong words (ex: bare i/o bear), poor grammar.

This is ludicrous. Unbelievable love story of a 'special snowflake' protagonist. Also, the reader is told that X will never happen, and then? Guess what: X does happen. I would probably have enjoyed this had I read it 15 years sooner, though...

DNF. Yeah, I know. Stopped the audiobook in the first chapter as the main character was whineing and whinging so much it was unbearable. Might attempt to power through at a much, much, much later date.
