Disclaimer: I know and adore Sarah Kain Gutowski. I reviewed "Fabulous Beast," the chapbook that forms the first section of this book, a few years ago. I reread all of those poems yet again in this book, and yet again I was blown away. Monstrous women and monstrous mothers are pretty much my jam, and this book did not disappoint.

Wow. Fabulous Beast is a fabulous collection of lyrically beautiful poetry. Each of the three sections of the collection, The Sow, the Woman With the Frog Tongue, and Minor Gods, are focused and sharp, yet each section has a different voice. Having previously read the poet's prior chapbook, 'Fabulous Beast: the Sow' (2013, Hyacinth Girl Press), I was already familiar with the poems in the first section (the Sow), but rereading the poems as I did in connection with the other portions of this coll
