The surface reality that’s presented to the world.
And then there’s the other side.
The real one.
The one that matters.

Seventeen-year-old, self-proclaimed asshole, Toby Page, is alone.
No friends.

“People aren’t perfect. It’s not about loving them when it’s easy and convenient; it’s about loving them even more when it’s hard.”

I've read every book of Kim Holden's and what I love about her stories is they're always different and special. Her writing is truly a gift and the way she can tell a story is like no other. The Other Side is an important read. It's heart-wrenching, focuses on difficult topics, and is a book that needs to be read.

Her outstretched arms are an invitation that I gladly walk into. I hug her. The hug lasts minutes. It’s more than an embrace—it’s apologies for the past and promises for the future. It’s solace, and safety, and reassurance, and friendship, and want, and need, and acceptance, and forgiveness. It’s contentment. It’s love.

I’m completely blown away by this incredibly poignant and exquisitely written story. ”THE OTHER SIDE” deals with very

"The most important time to listen is when words are missing, that’s when heart cry out the loudest,”

You’re going to cry. You’ve been warned.

This was such a heart-wrenching important book. I’ve wanted to read a book by Kim Holden for a while, so I decided to start with this one. And I’m in awe. Her story telling abilities left me in awe. Once I started reading, I couldn’t stop. It was so heavy, I needed the break, but I couldn’t stop. My emotions was all over the place. I’ve felt everythi

Well, this had some similarities to another book I have read by this author, Bright Side, and unfortunately I liked that book better. Both books have a main female character who is in a band and is supposed to be “very deep” and insightful. Both books are meant to be equal parts upsetting and uplifting. I’m not sure it quite struck that balance in this book though. I found myself a little annoyed at how heavy handed the book dealt with various issues

I had tears in my eyes and still thinking about it, even though I wasn't hooked from the first pages I find it amazing. The Other Side is raw, realistic and heavy.

It's a must read and I'm sure once you read it you will think about it for days!

My sadness is mine and it shouldn't bleed all over anyone else.
Short review: The Other Side was jam-packed with real issues and beautiful prose; it will make you think and it will make you cry. If you're interested in learning more about depression and trauma, I'd highly recommend this one!
My mother was a yeller.

Another exceptional novel from Kim Holden that you do not want to miss.

I dare say, there is not a person alive that cannot in some way relate to this book. And that's why this novel is so good. It's deep, it's raw, and it's real. Kim wrote one story intertwined with many stories and seamlessly wove it all together. She challenges our perceptions of the world, of people, of what we think we know about life.

I fell in love with our hero who carried so much pain, yet did his best to show kindness t

I'm lost for words when I try to describe this book, so I'm going to borrow a quote from the book that sums it up perfectly:

"It’s gut-wrenching, and sad, and painful, and severely gorgeous."

Toby is one of the most troubled characters I've come across. He is in a constant fight with his inner demons.

"I wear my depression like a winter coat, zipped up tight to my chin and bulky—a barrier that smothers out the rest of the world."

"Well, my anger, resentment, and the perpetual black cloud hanging ov

Toby Page never had much to look forward to all his life. Growing up with a deadbeat mother, he always believed he was useless and unwanted. But things started to look up when Alice Eliot moved into the building he worked in. She made him dare to dream, but lifelong emotional abuse might not be enough to reverse his beliefs.

Some people are born to do great things, to leave a mark, to simply be great.

I am sitting next to a pile of tear soaked tissues and my mind is blown. From what I read in the author's notes, this is a very personal book for Ms. Holden. It is incredibly sad to read, I mean I wanted to figure out how to get in my kindle and hug Toby until he believed he was worthy of love. Thank goodness for Alice! Beautiful, talented Alice who life served a giant shit sandwich and she just threw it away and decided to live her life the way she thought she deserved, not how society o

There are books that you love, books you enjoy, and every once in while, there are books that you know will stay in your heart for the rest of your life. The Other Side by Kim Holden was absolutely brilliant. Heartbreaking, breathtaking, soul shattering. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it.

I don’t care which genre you prefer , this is a must read! Intense and thought provoking. This story is so necessary in this day and time. It’s raw and so real. Unforgettable, heavy content. It’s been 2 1/2 years since Kim’s last book and it was so worth the wait. It’s obvious that she put her blood , sweat , and tears in this book.

An emotional and powerful story that was heartbreaking but it was also about healing, hope, love and the celebration of life.

The voice of depression is ugly and we heard it loud and clear through Toby. The author allows us to experience all the loneliness, indifference to life and lack of self worth. It was raw and unfiltered and it absolutely broke my heart. His past I think shaped the beginning of this disease with a mother who was belittling and threw words of hate and the experience of a ho

I don’t know how, but she always manages to write an amazing book that sucks me in every time. I think what makes TOS so special is Kim’s ability to be raw and real with a mental illness that is often not talked about or is misdiagnosed. Trust me, you will love Toby! True to Holden’s form, she surrounds the main character with a brilliant, complex, witty, and lovable supporting cast that adds immense depth and flavor to the storyline. Must read book!

You cant read this story and escape unscathed, it leaves it's markings on your soul. You can't simply review it because it's not just a story...it's a life lesson
Kim has the most kindest of hearts and her aura shines like a halo around her. Her openness to embrace everyone, literally and figuratively, gives a sense of safety. To open up, talk, vent out your inner feelings.

You can almost always leave it to Kim to provide you with an emotional story that leaves lots of incredible imprints on you along the way. And different kinds at that! They're not all the same. The Other Side is no different from Bright Side, All of It, and even Gus. Once you finish this story-- you will be left breathless.

The best part of this book was the EXCELLENT story line and plot placement. When I say that, I'm talking about the POVs that we get along the way and the way that Kim structur

Kim Holden is the master of emotions. This book made me cry buckets.
Toby Page, the male protagonist, battles depression and is known for his asshole personality.
There are so many emotions in this book that'll make you question everything you've seen. There are times when people who are fighting with their own conscious appear to be normal. They appear perfectly fine but the guilt, shame and self loathing stealthily creeps in.
Mental health is a sore topic which needs more exposure and awareness

This book wasn't what I thought it would be. I had the one side and I thought I knew it all, but I didn't until I read the other side. This book deals with so many intense issues that are prevalent in society that it really is a must read for any and everyone. Toby suffers from a depression so deep, but is great at hiding it. Even when it's clear he is on a downward spiral, people are caught up in their own lives and don't notice. Be nice to everyone. I needed this reminder today. Grin and be
