Ernest Charles Temple Thurston was a British poet, playwright and author.
Thurston wrote a total of forty books, from which seventeen motion pictures were made. In addition, he authored several theatrical plays, three of which were performed on Broadway and four of which were made into motion pictures.
An account of the author's journey across the canals of England in the barge 'Flower of Gloster'. First published in 1911, this is a fascinating glimpse into a world that has now vanished forever. The writing is quite flowery and rambling for today's taste, and the author is quite patronising (obviously unintentionally!) to the 'lower classes' he meets, but these are things to expect from a book of this vintage. Recommended to those who enjoy historical travel or countryside books.
