Fragments of Delores

Rate this book
Can a picture-perfect life be destroyed by a single lie? Or did it take more than that to split her world apart?

Perfect husband. Perfect children. Perfect home.
Delores Stanton had it all.
Or so it seemed.
Until one hot summer’s night, she got into her car, and left.

Delores’s tragic journey begins with deception, a bloody revenge plot born from jealousy, and a lie that has become the rocky foundation for her fragile mind.
As her world begins to spin dangerously out of control, Delores’s desperate mind starts the tortuous process of piecing her life back together. But when you can’t even trust yourself, how can you even begin?

For the man that truly loves her, finding where Delores went, and why, is proving harder to discover than he ever thought possible. People are harbouring secrets at every turn, and with no clues to guide him, he worries it might just be too late to save the woman he loves.
Because in Delores’s uncertain world, a lie might become the truth.
And the truth just might kill her.

description

I love Claire's books, they are always original and you don't know what to expect. This author has broken my heart a couple of times, and I guess I like it because I keep coming for more. Fragments of Delores intrigued me right from the start. Who is Delores, where is she headed, what is she planning on doing, and why is she doing it? I had no idea but I was looking forward to finding answers to all of these questions. Piece by piece we get to know Delores with quick and short flashbacks, and it is obvious that something isn't right with her. This book was an emotional roller coaster, especially during the last quarter of the book I was on the edge of my seat.

This is a psychological thriller with a little bit of romance added to it. You don't know what is going on, how things are connected, plus add some plot twists to the story and you have yourself a wild ride. This book has multiple POVs which I didn't mind at all. Claire has such a way with words that you connect and get sucked into any character's POV in my opinion. It definitely added another layer to the story and gave you some clarity about what was going on. However, the author had me guessing until the last page of the book. I love this author's writing style a lot, it is just so easy to read and has a very nice flow. I have to admit I read the last chapters very fast, because the not knowing was killing me. After I finished I went back and read them again so I could take in all the details. I definitely recommend this book to fans of Claire's writing, and readers who enjoy thrillers/suspenseful books.

A psychological suspense story full of secrets, lies and twisted actions. This story is not with out romance though, beautiful. This had my mind racing, on the edge of my seat throughout.

This was written different to other books I've read by Claire. It took me a little longer to get in to it but once i did OMG, briĺiantly crafted. This is unique! The story unfolded perfectly and the despair in this story is intangible. Incredible book.

Type: Standalone
Gente: psychological thriller
POV: multiple

I love stories that takes you on a wild ride like this one. You truly never know what’s going on which keeps you on the edge and glued to the pages until the very end. This book had a plot full of twists which will be appealing to readers who like a good psychological thriller with some romance in the mix.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story.

Delores was married to a successful, handsome husband, with more money to spare than she would ever need. She didn’t need to work, in fact her husband insisted that she didn’t. He was such a great provider for their family and Delores knew she was lucky when he chose her out of all the women he could have had for a wife. All she needed in life was her caring doting husband. She didn’t need more in life than to tend to her husband’s needs.
Yet, she felt like a failure as a wife and mother as she battled with her broken mind. Some days she wondered why he had married her at all.
This is her tragic journey beginning with deception, a lie and a revenge plot.

Overall:
From the moment I began reading I wondered what happened to Delores that caused this empty hollowness inside of her. As I continued to read Claire invoked small pieces of Delores’s life. I loved gathering these pieces along the way.
Although I wasn’t expecting the additional characters or their individual point of views. For a short time I was convinced these were pieces I needed to hang on to.
This was a page-turner that I couldn’t put down. The writing was splendid. It’s well thought out and quite thought provoking. I had high hopes for this book and Claire achieved those goals. I was on pins and needles intensely waiting for the outcome. I kept guessing the direction only to discover the twists and turns were nothing I could’ve imagined. Such a clever plot twist.
It’s so hard to comment on this book without giving away any secrets. All I can say it’s uniquely written. I’m spellbound and captivated by the words.
The deceit and lies were cleverly planted in just the right places.
This is appropriately labeled. When I think of what a psychological thriller entails this book has all the factors including twists and turns. I want more books like this one. Psychological thrillers are so hard to come by. Most claim to be a psychological thriller but very few are truly good. This one is powerful and intense and I’m thrilled to have find this gem.

Can I just start by saying I love this cover. It really fits well with the book.

This book will have you turning the pages it is so good I was hooked from the start I was dying to find out what was going on and what happened for Delores to be leaving behind her perfect little life her husband and her kids she really had it all. As we go on a Journey with Delores things start to come to light. there were parts in the book I wanted to jump in and hug Delores I just love her as a character I really felt for her and what she was going through. I really didn't see that part at the end coming That is one twist i didn't see coming.

Another well written book from this author and I loved this story.

Everything you could ever want in a Psychological Thriller Book. Beautifully written.

I was so captured by this book! I loved Dolores' character. The author has this special skill to make you actually feel the torture and pain Dolores was going through. Claire writes in such a descriptive and suspenseful manner. I almost felt like I was in the book observing, rather than a person reading the book!
Fragments of Dolores is dark, poetic and intense. The author writes with a beautiful darkness.
Thank you

A page turner

New to me author.
Book held a lot of promise, and was mostly enjoyable, but confused me a lot of time too. Plus a few unanswered questions by the end.

This gripping portrayal of abuse, mental health and love was a puzzle that as a reader we pieced together throughout. It was sensitivity done, but was nonetheless difficult to read at the same time.
My only issue was that in the beginning it seemed slightly slow to build, but once I got a handle on the way the story was told from the different characters perspectives, I was fully under this authors spell!

Delores could be presumed by some to be a stepford wife, from the outside anyways. But her life wasn’t as it seemed and what went on behind closed doors was far from perfect. It was a nightmare.

As her truth unravels, her mind does with it. Making her question lies from reality and showed the true affects of not just mental health issues, but how abuse can shred at our minds also.

Excerpt
I believe in accepting the unacceptable, no matter how much it hurts. I believe in knowing when you’ve lost your battle.

But with one person on her side, a war to prove her innocence versus her crumbling mind had started and there were honestly times I felt desperate for Delores to find some crumb of light amongst the dark but knowing she was also too deep to see anything.

Excerpt
For love I would do anything. Love is forever. Love is everlasting...no matter how fleeting it is. No matter what we do.

I liked it but didn’t love it which I’m gutted about was so looking forward to this book
The concept was brilliant I just found the first half dragged on to much, (it’s a big book) and a bit confessing as to what she had done ! The 2nd half was much better and a great twist at the end which you don’t see coming .
So the story of Delores who suffers with her mental health and Micheal her controlling husband , after doing something terrible her mind fractures, and he tells her she has to runway. The only person who can solves the mystery of her disappearance is a local cop
Great story line just feel if it had been shorter would have been better
But that’s just my opinion give it a read you might love it .
I love this author’s words and can’t wait for her next release .

Wow WHAT A READ!!!

I wasnt sure how this would go, it's another genre that I dont normally read but the love I have for this author made me give it a go and I'm so glad I did!

Damn it was intense, the twists and turns made my head spin, I was on the edge of my seat not knowing what was coming next or how everything would pan out.

I loved everything about it and it didnt come without romance too.

This book suprised me in the best way possible, I know now I will always read everything by this beautiful lady ❤

Me giving this 3 stars isn't to say it wasn't a good book. I watch so much true crime so any thrillers I read seem to hit the happy medium. I usually know what's happening in advance. This would fall into domestic thriller for me. I don't read them often, but I had all of Claire books in my normal reading genre and wanted to still support and read one I didn't have.

I was extremely nervous going into this book I really didn't know what expect, but I knew that I loved Claire's words and I felt I needed to read it and I'm sooooo glad I did.

Fragments of Dolores is an intense and addictive story with twists and turns you never see coming ,it will break your heart and make your blood pressure rise with anger.

To say this book surprised me is an understatement I went in thinking my triggers would be on high but I was wrong claire writes this brilliantly, at first it took me a little while to get into the way the story is written as it bounces from characters but once I was used to this I never looked back.

Another fab read from the crazy genre hopping red head 😜

This isn't Claire's usual type of writing, no zombies or usual types monsters however there is a monster of a different kind!
I hated Michael straight away and at times was shouting at Delores.
It shows the power people have over you and your mind.

A great read....would love to know more about Sally and her story

Fragments of Desire is a brilliant read. We get several points of view so an even better insight to what’s going on which is a big positive in this story.

So I’m kinda stuck on the review as I don’t want to spoil it for anyone so I’m not gonna say anything about the storyline. This is a well written story with a unique storyline. As soon as I started I just wanted to hide and keep reading. I needed to know what was going on with Delores and why she left everything behind her. I’m really looking forward to reading more from this author.

If you like stories that has you trying to guess what’s going on then grab this. You won’t regret it.

When I saw that Claire was releasing another thriller I knew it was something I wanted to read, and I wasn't wrong. Claire has a way of keeping you guessing and holding onto the mystery within her novels until the very last moment, building up to the perfect moment for that plot twist. Fragments of Delores was just that book.

The novel is written from multiple POV's, mainly from Delores and Elijah; but other characters come into play that have an important role as the book progresses. The novel is also written in third person narrative, which in all honesty I am not a huge fan of; but it works perfectly for this novel. If it was written in a first person point of view, there is no way you would get a broad enough picture to understand what is going on, Delores is just too broken for that.

Delores is the heroine of the story, she is a broken woman lost to her own mind. We join her travelling on her own to a destination unknown and reason's that aren't revealed from the get go. The book feels sporadic at first as you are drip fed bits and pieces of the story, but the more you read, the more the puzzle pieces start to form a bigger picture. Claire's writing for me as a lover of well written thrillers, was perfectly paced. At first I wasn't sure over the jumping POV's and how that was relevant; however it didn't take me long to see how they were needed to form a better understanding of who Delores is. Seeing things through her eyes alone skews the perspective, she isn't aware of just how bad things are for her, she is a woman focused on her task at hand and that's all she see's.

This book took me on a roller coaster of a ride, when you hit the halfway mark you have a pretty decent grasp of Delores, but you still have so much more to figure out in terms of plot and the reasons why she is the way she is. The bombs just keep on coming from that moment on, the twists and turns blindsided me on numerous occasions and as all the pieces came into play I was in awe of Claire's ability to craft this complex story line. Overall this book was one I enjoyed and it didn't play out exactly as I expected at all. I think anyone who is looking for a book to suck you in and enjoy to trying and figure out what the heck is going on, then this is the book for you.

Fragments of Delores is a book that will really get you tied up in knots. It’s emotional and heartbreaking, all while pissing you off at the same time. It’s considered a “psychological drama” for a good reason.

As usual Claire C. Riley had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I suspected some of what was going on, but the story was told in a way that made me question my ideas. She does a great job of stringing you along and dropping breadcrumbs along the way to keep you wanting more.

This book really shows the lengths some will go to in order to have complete control over others. With no regard to anyone else, it’s all about their feelings. Delores husband is a classic narcissist to the upmost degree. For him to take things as far as he did just to get his way is a perfect example of how messed up some people can be. Though the word “gaslighting” is thrown around in our society a lot, Fragments of Delores really paints the picture of the extent of how bad it can be and the potential outcomes from someone who exhibits such behaviors. I understand the concept much better than I did before reading this book and frankly, it’s terrifying. That someone can willingly destroy someone’s mental health in the way Delores’s husband did makes me sick because I know there are people out there who do just that.

This really is a great book and worth checking out. It’s just long enough to tell the story without it being rushed, but also doesn’t drag. I will say that the beginning ran a little slower than I usually prefer, but I was so desperate to find out what was going on, I didn’t really notice it until I was past that part.

Good book, but trigger warning!

This was a great story, although some was a little intense. Warning: If you have been in an abusive relationship this may be triggering. I loved how it turned out, very unexpected and lots of anticipation and twists. But some of it was frustrating to read! I felt like I wanted to yell at the characters to figure it out!! Also the hospital part was frustrating because he would not have gotten away with any of that in real life! Trying not to give spoilers here! Overall it was well done, but not one of my favorites from this author.

This book looked promising.
It even started well.
I was just trying to connect with Delores and was really anxious to know what she has done and where she was going but then suddenly we have another character Sally introduced with her own problems.
I really wasn’t in a mood for so many characters. Everything was just sad and depressing.
I think it’s best I skip.
I’m sure the book might be good but just not for me.
