When the blurb says haunted house, paranormal activity and premonitions I'm game. This book didn't disappoint. It's all the above complemented by excellent fast paced writing and indepth characters.

Aubry is a survivor. Abandoned by her single mother at three years old and put in the system, she knows life is tough.
Now 25, she's struggling to make ends meet with no family or safety net to rely on. Inheriting the family estate and all the wealth that comes with it, was the last thing she

I cannot say enough good things about this book. It sucked me in right from the beginning, and if I'd had the ability to read the whole thing in one sitting, you best believe I would have. I hated having to put it down to deal with that pesky thing called life, but as soon as I would pick it back up again, I was lost once more in the world of Desolate Ridge. It's such a well-written novel, and you feel for each and every character involved. The description of the house and town are so vivid and ...more

I will admit, I was a little skeptical about this book. I am mostly a romance reader with some psychological thrillers thrown in there every now and then. The author sent me a copy of this book, not for a review but gifted it to me to get this book out there. Let me just say that I loved it! It was equal parts creepy, believable (if your a believer) and intriguing. I thought Aubrey was a very strong female character and although she was guarded initially, it was nice to see her flourish a bit. ...more

Aubrey was left in a hospital as a small child leaving her to grow up in the foster system, never getting the family she wanted. As a 25 year old she's struggling to make ends meet, working in a dead end job with no real family or friends to help her out. Then one day she's approached after work by a man who informs her that her last living relative has now passed leaving her to inherit the family estate and all of the wealth that comes with that.

Not longer after moving to her

I read a lot of novels featuring haunted houses, and sometimes the characters’ lives get in the way, slowing down the action. Nothing Hidden Ever Stays is different in that the character’s history is the key to unlocking the mystery. Aubrey Ross grew up in foster care and has been keeping herself barely above the poverty line, isolated and alone. All that she knows about her family is that her mother abandoned her. She then discovers that she comes from a long lineage and she is also the sole ...more

Haunted house books are my favorite reads of all time and this book did not disappoint. The book also has a bit of mystery to it which is another favorite of mine. There's romance as well. There is lots of violence, in the form of domestic abuse and murder. There are no sex scenes and very little colorful language.

This was my first book by HR Mason but I am hooked. The story was in full swing from page one and did not slow down at all throughout the book. It was a hard book to put down for me,

Want a book to put you in the mood for some spookiness? You’ve come to the right place.

Nothing Hidden Ever Stays weaves a tale of mystery around the Ross family. For decades, people would die young from unsolved or tragic deaths. Their single heir would grow to follow the same fate, generation after generation.

Alternating between Aubrey in present day and each heir as the years progress, you discover a sinister curse has plagued the family from the start. Can Aubrey break this cycle? Or will

Nothing Hidden Ever Stays is a creepy well written book. I could not put it down. I would read more by this author.

I loved every minute of this book! Normally I do not find myself interested in supernatural stories but once I read the description for this book, I found it intriguing and was so glad to be approved to read the ARC. This was a fast pace supernatural-mystery with so many twists, turns and mystery that your head will spin! (In a good way!) I was pulled in right from the start and couldn't out this book down. Told through the POVs if Aubrey and the women if Desolate Ridge from each generation ...more

This story is told from two points of view that of Aubrey in the present day and that of the women who had lived at Desolate Ridge, from each generation dating back to 1819, this gives the story some background and atmosphere, insanity and madness seems to have been the main reason that things had happened. Maybe if Aubrey has been around in the 1800’s she would also have been deemed insane or mad. So many barbaric things happened against the women.

Aubrey Ross had been abandoned at a hospital

This was definitely an impulse request - the title, cover and premise of a haunted estate intrigued me. And oddly enough, this is the third book that I have read in October that has included the old nursery rhyme about crows/magpies/blackbirds: "One for sorrow/Two for joy/Three for a girl/Four for a boy/Five for silver/Six for gold/Seven for a secret never to be told."

The book begins with orphaned and rather destitute Aubrey Ross learning that she has inherited a massive fortune and an estate

I enjoyed the premise of this story and loved the chapters of history and Aubrey's ancestry. I enjoyed flipping back and forth between the past, the present, and the connections that Aubrey experienced. I do enjoy novels that start with family trees!

This would have been a higher rating if there had been a little more character development with Aubrey. Her childhood was referenced as hard due to being abandoned and being raised in the foster care system, but to what extent, I'm not sure - her

I received a copy of Nothing Hidden Ever Stays through NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Nothing Hidden Ever Stays is the debut novel of H.R. Mason, and is a dramatic and horrifying thriller. This novel combines thriller elements with the concept of an old curse, ghost stories, and a hauntingly dark past.

OH MY HELL! HR Mason has some serious writing chops, as Nothing Hidden Ever Stays was a totally creepy story that I couldn't put down, and also had a time of it catching my breath at times. This is the story of 25 year old, Aubry, who was abandoned by her single mother at 3 years old, put in the system, and still seems to be dodging life's hits. She was having a time of it making ends meet, and since she has no family to help, she's struggling big time. Out of the blue, she inherits wealth & ...more

Aubrey's life has been rough almost since birth. You'd think being abandoned by her family at three would be the worst she's endured, but you'd be wrong. Years of abuse and neglect at the hands of people trusted to care for her has made every day hell and she's closed herself off to protect herself from future hurt.

All she's been through has taken a toll on her in numerous ways, including mentally. While it's impossible to say what caused the premonitions she's now experiencing, it doesn't

This book had me at the blurb and didn’t disappoint. It is a thriller for sure. Aubrey is approached one day by a man and told she has inherited a house and more money than she will ever need. But nothing is that simple. Her family is cursed. Lots of weird things are happening. Especially once she moves into the house she inherited. I loved this book. I was immediately sucked in and didn’t want to put it down. Aubrey has been so much in her life. She is resistant to help or kindness and she has ...more

“Nothing good could come from looking back.” – p. 11
While the past is something Aubrey Rose doesn’t want to think about, think about it she must when she receives the deed to her ancestral home on Desolate Ridge. I love a good haunted house story, and also novels that tell multiple stories and weave them into a cohesive overall narrative. I also appreciated the family tree provided at the beginning of the book, and the historical aspects. A thrilling read, this book had solid writing and a great

Nothing Hidden Ever Stays by H.R. Mason is the story of a two-hundred-year-old curse. When Aubrey inherits Desolate Ridge, she begins uncovering the dark truth about the family she never knew. The cover of the book reminded me of Poe and of something gothic, which this book definitely is. I loved the descriptions and how the book jumps time to provide greater insight into the details of both the family and the curse.

It’s a quick, entertaining read that kept me up reading late into the night. It

This story intrigued me from the blurb and I had to give it a try. It was certainly a unique paranormal suspense that had me turning pages wondering where the story was heading. Some of the references and reactions to mental illness I didn’t like but the rest of Aubrey’s story is simply unbelievable. Mind blowing the attention to detail in the story and how everything came together at the end. I am definitely going to read more from this author.

An intriguing paranormal suspense that will have you thinking what could happen next as the pages are turning. Aubrey’s story is complex and well written, even though some parts of the story bothered me some based on their nature. I would recommend this story for anyone looking for a unique mystery that all comes together in the end.
