These Sikh warriors fought to the last man in performance of their duty and exacted a dreadful price upon the attacking Afghan tribesmen who sought to eject the forces of the British Empire from the border region. This is one of the few times that I have watched the movie before reading the book. 😕🤪🌛
It was as smart a decision. Now I had Akshay Kumar and the other 20 sikhs etched with the words and emotions in the book. This book is original research and a surprisingly well directed story. 21 Kesaris~The Untold story of the Battle of Saragarhi is a narration of a battle which is unfortunately lost among thousand of battles of Indian history. It is saga of unparalleled bravery of 21 fearless men who defeated 10,000 Orakzai and Afridi tribesmen on 21 September 1897. It is not only testimony of battle but gives insight and understanding of eighteenth and nineteenth century's political and social

Authored by Kirandeep Singh and Nirvan Singh the book celebrates 21 martyrs who have set an example for generations to come by fearlessly charging at the tribal army of 10,000 Pathans. The book takes us towards the Battle of Saragarhi one step at a time. From talking about the birth of Sikh religion to the valour of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and towards the 36th Sikh, the book gives us a thorough background that leads towards the historic battle.

When the movie came out in March of this year, I was surprised to know that such an event had even taken place. I was in awe of the bravado shown by the 21 Sikh soldiers who stood their ground to protect the fort. There are very few History books that talk about this incident and I'm thankful that @authors_kiran_nirvan decided to write a detailed version of this incident. I have always been fascinated by History both as a subject and

Welcome to the review .
Unlike any other book released this year, my excitment level was extreme for reading this book.
I was little late in watching the movie (as it is now on Prime, I watched it yesterday) but read the book earlier. .
No doubt the story is terrific and awesome, but literally? Only 248 pages for such a great story. .
I read thousands of tweets in praise of avengers and others fictional heroes and hardly anyone knows the story of kesaris. .
The book is good, it contains many

History fascinates me! This hook was just apt to fullfil my desire to add to my knowledge about the Sikh Indian history. Just like many of you, I was also unaware of this battle of Saragarhi and about the heroic fight put up by a regiment consisting of 21 Sikh soldiers against 10,000 Afghan tribesmen.

Kudos to the author for taking the initiative to bring to light this long forgotten battle which marks an important day in history.

21 Kesaris was a wealth of information, and the Battle of Saragarhi was elaborated on so perfectly that I had no questions left when I turned the last page. I loved all of the background details, it made me understand the situation so much better.

21 Kesaris, as the title rightfully suggests is about the forgotten battle of Saragarhi and more importantly about the unsung heroes. As the authors rightfully point at the start of the book, this is one such epic moment in Indian history which has been forgotten over the years and has very less recall in public memory. While the title might suggest it is about the battle, the authors have meticulously covered every aspect around it

This book is the real story of the Battle of Saragarhi (based on which the movie Kesari was made), in which 21 fearless men fought a huge platoon of Orakzai and Afridi soldiers on 21 September 1897. Why did the native Indian soldiers fight against the Afghan men when they should fight the British who were ruling them at that time? This book addresses the socio-political climate prevalent at that time and answers this question. This is a well-researched book and is highly recommended for all ...more

When I heard about this book, I was damn excited to read it as, to be honest, the movie played a big role in making people aware of this war.
I purchased the book very own day of it's release.
It is a good book but a short read.
See I didn't expect it to be so short. In my opinion, the story is worthy to be told in 400 pages.
I guess that enough research was not done in making this book.

History is full of stories of bravery, culture, unity and epic battles. India has its own long drawn journey of the struggle for freedom. Our country, then known as the Golden Bird, was eyed by many others. We were under the rule of many: the French, the British, the Mughals, the Afghans and others before we attained freedom. In the long drawn list of wars and battles, some were overshadowed by others, and ended up forgotten. One of these forgotten battles was The Battle of Saragarhi.
