The book is about 20 years old now.
It was a look at what zoos should be instead of being
animal prisons.
I bought the book around the time I was attending meetings in a nearby city that was trying, without a clue and the proper amount of money needed, to improve the prison they called the city zoo.

I can only hope the zoos of today are doing even better
than when the book was written.

A history of the zoo including how they are changing to focus more on conservation

As a read in 2020, this is really a two star book. It's 25 years old and outdated. I'm still giving it three stars because that's what it would have been for me if I read it at the time it was published. There are beautiful photos, but none of the information was new to me.
