I was given this book by my nurse navigator when I met my oncologist to discuss my options after my cancer diagnosis. This book helped a lot because I refused to do any searching on the internet but still needed information on what my options were.

The book helped a lot in giving information on the different surgeries and what happens before, during, and after surgery and treatment. It helped me decide that a double mastectomy with reconstruction was the right option for me.

I wish it gone a little more in-depth at times but it was still very helpful to read. I would definitely recommend reading this if you or a family member is going through breast cancer.

This is really a GUIDE book to breast cancer. It breaks down medical terminology in layman's terms, and reviews key terms that may have been glossed over in a haze at the doctor's office. I appreciated the diagrams and sort personal reflections from breast cancer survivors. The chapters are broken down chronologically and stay on topic.

A must read for patients undergoing a breast biopsy and cancer treatment.

Don't buy this book - because there is a newer, updated version about to be released on July 1, 2015.

However, if you get it as a gift, as I did, you will get a LOT out of it, and I suspect, even more from the newer version.

It's not a deep dive, but a thorough if shallow overview of all the areas a breast cancer soon-to-be-survivor must face: Facing Breast Cancer, Breast Cancer Basics, Diagnosis and Staging, Surgery, Reconstruction, Radiation, Chemotherapy, Hormone Treatment, Targeted Therapy, Complementary & Alternative Treatments, DCIS, Clinical Trials, Life After Cancer, A Guide for your Partner, Advanced Breast Cancer, and a fabulous reference section.

Although I've read other books on the subject, this one still presented information in a way that was highly readable and easy to digest, and I learned things (or perhaps, recognized them via this presentation) that I had not gleaned from my other readings. If you or a loved one is facing breast cancer, I highly recommend the newest version of this book.

simple, to the point...super helpful when you get your first diagnosis...helps you through the shock, but doesn't overwhelm you with too much information or confuse you with medical mumbo jumbo or scare you with dire results. upbeat, hopeful with lots of survivor's viewpoints and short stories throughout.
I totally recommend this book.
