4.25/5 ⭐ Exactly as described: this is an A to Z astrology dictionary, with well written prose. I think I would have preferred things to be grouped (such as all houses together, etc) but it is a very solid reference book that is helpful to get a better grounding in terms and their relationships with each other.

Today I'm reviewing The Astrology Dictionary Cosmic Knowledge from A to Z by Donna Woodwell.

Generally I like to start out with a disclaimer. I am an contemporary witch. I look for the connection between magic and science without the need to search for a creator. I receive no compensation for these reviews and all my links are standard Amazon links and not affiliate links. I am a practicing photo reader and have spent the last 16 years honing my craft. I offer personal readings by request and have a strong online history that boasts over 429,000 views.

As usual I'll start with a review of the physical book. This was a small book. So much so that you could easily lose it in a backpack or large purse. It is rough to the touch but has a very attractive cover. The text is large despite the small stature and the book does not contain an index.

This book is exactly as it is described. It is an A-Z book of definitions related to astrology. It does take the definitions a step farther than one would expect and includes a bit of poetic license in its descriptions.

Moon, noun
Mistress of the night, the Moon's gravity stabilizes our climate and allows life to evolve and thrive. So the Moon symbolizes thing that nurture and protect. Since she sheds on light of her own, the Moon's association with gathering and receiving. Memory and nostalgia are the functions of the moon...

The author goes on to tell us about the house associated with the moon as well as her colors and metal associations.

She says the following regarding Pisces:

Pisces, noun
Pisces is best when allowed to drift, to float without judgement in everlasting bliss. Then, this Jupiter ruled sign can commune with the cosmos. Pisces strive to be in the world, yet not of the world. The constellation associated with this mutable water sign is the Fish, two fish that are tied together. Pisces may need to work to stay present, to reach for the stars without getting tangled up by their own feet.

As someone who has taken a tumble several times over the last few weeks I an say this is pretty much spot on. (laughs)

Overall a cute book with some very skillfully written albeit non-scientific definitions of astrology terms. A great book to have if you want a bit of light reading that can be whimsical and still contain a bit of magic.

Very easy to read
It has on bold the words that you can find a definition throughout so it a back and forward reading if you don’t know much so you can understand. But very nice, easy and beginner friendly

An easy to understand overview that broke down the different aspects and explained them well. Honestly it's just not fresh in my mind anymore for me to write a more descriptive review.

How I rate books:
5 Stars= I absolutely loved it, felt very moved. Extraordinary. I rarely give this rating.
4 Stars= Well done
3 Stars= I enjoyed it but wasn't wowed. My most common rating
2 Stars=Meh
1 Stars= The kind of book that I feel shouldn't have been published bc it might discourage some from becoming readers.

An informative and interesting little book. Continued knowledge shared from cultures around the world in relation to the study of astrology. Primarily the terminology and their meanings. This book had the writer in me screaming to be let out and refreshed my memory on some beautiful tidbits I'd forgotten. e.g. on night time - when "the sun is hidden from view by the limb of the earth. To the ancients, it was travelling through the underworld." Would recommend to those curious about astrology.

I have been studying astrology for 3 years and this is an awesome reference book! I m so glad I purchased the hard copy of this book for my personal library . A glossary style book, that is straight to the point and very informative. I would also refer this book to those who are just starting out , a great foundation for learning !

Fantastic read! Highly recommend for any astrology enthusiast. It's brief but concise. It's worth keeping a personal copy on hand to rereference. This and "The Only Astrology Book You'll Ever Need" by Joanna Martine Woolfolk are in my opinion, the two most important and useful astrology books to invest in. I think the part on Lunar Mansions was probably my favorite personally.

This is a book to start reading before researching the astrology, zodiac, etc. Easy to read might be difficult to understand if one has not understood astrology, planets, zodiac signs, etc. Very well explained several definitions of the zodiac, planets, the nodes, the houses, sextile, and much more.

Neat introduction to astrology but it was a bit frustrating that astrological terms was used in definitions for other astrological terms

This is a pocket-sized astrology dictionary (Thankfully not as thick as one, so it fits nicely in a small bag). This is for anyone who get confused by a lot of the spiritual names for things. Everything has a quick and simple explanation. It's useful to keep around.
