Advance praise for The Hammer Falls: “A body slam of high-tech mayhem and social justice."
"Delivers one gut punch after another in this science-fiction TKO.”

Too many gruesome injuries. Too many deaths.

How far would you go to protect someone who might love you?

Horace “The Hammer” Harkness is a gene-modified pit fighter twenty years past his prime, but he knows one

A few decades from now medicine can literally resurrect the dead, unless their head is cut off, but even average care is too expensive for average people. Resurrection technology has led to pit fights to the death. Horace “The Hammer” Harkness has died twenty-seven times in his long career, and needs a final fight to pay for the new heart he needs. He’s borrowed heavily from the Russian Mob and could pay them off and get a new heart with his winnings. However there’s the son of a friend who need ...more

Heermann gives us a near future filled with gladiators and corporations that have no restrictions or morals. This is a beautifully crafted story of damaged people who are just doing their best to survive and fit into a society that does not want to let them go their own way. It is easy to look at warriors in the ring, even today, and not think of them as having a life and needs. This story is violent and even erotic at times but detailed enough for the reader to get taken up in this quite ...more

Visceral action adventure in a cyberpunk future.

The Hammer Falls is a violent action adventure following a powerful aging pit fighter as he faces powerful underworld forces in a cyberpunk dystopia. I backed the author's kickstarter and I am not disappointed. The book is nsfw and unabashed in its bluntness but there is an undernote of optimism for the future in the tale. It is very different that the fantasy japanese ronin trilogy I had read before in tone and style.

This was a fun read it was quick paced and almost a modern take on gladiator stories. I hope we get more from this world.

Horace “The Hammer” Harkness; an older pit fighter still in the ring beyond his years. Over his lengthy career, he had been killed and resuscitated twenty-seven times. His body, as well as his heart, had taken a terrible beating. How much more could his heart take? He had enough when he got wind of a fixed fight in his favor to take advantage of his popularity. Hammer made a couple of life-changing, drastic decisions, leaving the coliseum and his career behind. To escape, he caught a ride on a ...more

Rollercoaster Violence sorrow and joy

Well written story so many plot twists and turns in edge of the seat ride. Not overly gratuitous in the descriptions of violence but enough to make you say ouch. Believable characters whose outcomes you’re interested in. Does have elements of other narratives both a documentary and fictionally. But I shouldn’t put you off it’s just that I suspect in this case both myself and the author have read similar and seen similar things

Well done characters and concept

Three stories of persons who have undergone a progressive process of physical augmentation that has enabled them to become participants in a futuristic version of MMA. They are quick reads, giving you an introduction into characters you might like to find as the central protagonists in full length novels.

As a fan of Richard Parry’s “Chromed” series of novels, I appreciate the way Travis Heermann has taken a similar concept but developed in a very different

This is the 1st book I've read written by Travis Heermann; he has done a great job at writing a good book; I will definitely be reading more of his books.

The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.

I loved the characters.
