I was definitely NOT going to rate it 5 stars.

Don't get me wrong - I adore JA - this guy's awesome & his previous books provided me a lot of inspiration & ideas for future. But this book is pretty much a new opening - a book about starting up & scaling up (& screwing up), not something about modern approach to management & leadership. I was skeptical initially (there's so much written about that already, starting with the Lean series, Blitzscaling, modern product development books & such), getti

Though I’ve never been a founder, I’ve been an early member of startup companies and internal ventures (such as being a founding member of the, at the time new, Boston office for Fitbit ) so I was curious to read Jurgen Appelo’s book and see how relevant it was for me. It turned out to be very much so. Appelo combines lean and agile principles with a model for business development that is relevant for both an entrepreneur starting a company, and an intrapreneur, leading a product initiative or a ...more

Great work. It is a fun read that's also practical and full of examples. It contains a lot of practical and up do date tools and advises for startup founders, employees. The book tools and tips are designed to accelerate lean and agile business growth and cover a diverse and important set of topics, such as: working with a remote team, optimizing workflows, and discovering how to use a North Star Metric and a Journey Map. Highly recommended. ...more

No doubt Jurgen's work is very interesting. In his latest book, he reflects in such a practical and easy way to handle a series of tools that he has used to work with various companies that are very practical to understand and apply. Highly recommended his work and of course read his book "Startup, Scaleup, Screup" ...more

I like the book and it reads fast. The book has a lot of companies experiences that are good to understand better how they get the success but I feel that it does not reveal any secret sauce about startups.

One of the best business guides you'll find around

Reading this book was pure pleasure. I knew Jurgen did a great job, I expected to see something that good, because I already did read (and applied much of) "Managing for Happiness". But I was pleasantly surprised by the structured and smooth approach, which he used to craft "Scaleup".

The book tells a story. A story if a business. Actually, stories of many businesses, going through their challenges on their way to success or Screwup. The book advi

Very nice book. Pretty good new insights. Very nice chapter where Lean UX meets Design thinking. This was a real eye-opener for me. Having said this; some chapters describe quite common topics (eg. personas) But even in those chapters I gained new insights.
The metahpor with a family (honour your parents for what they did - they fund the kids - kids should discover the world in a different way) is for me a very good answer for common problems and questions in daily ecosystems / business.
