NFL quarterback Dylan Manley's life revolves around his career and the fame associated with it. He's only back in Indigo Bay to help with a fundraiser in memory of his best friend. But then finds he has to work with Brooke—the one person who has always made him trip over his own feet.
Brooke Davenport is a far cry from the girl next door who left town years ago. Focused on her political aspirations and still recovering from the loss of her doting brother, she wants nothing more than to return to DC for good. But first she has to get through the fundraiser with Dylan, who she blames for her brother's death.
When a family emergency pulls Brooke's parents out of town, the success of the fundraiser depends on Brooke and Dylan. He'll do whatever it takes to show her he's a new man, but every attempt only makes him look worse. If he can't make things right, he'll lose her forever.
Sweet Complications is the fourth book in the Indigo Bay Second Chance Romance series. Each book is a standalone, so you can read them in any order.
Stacy Claflin writes about complex women overcoming incredible odds. Whether it's her Gone trilogy of psychological thrillers, her ongoing Transformed paranormal saga, or her Seaside Hunters sweet romance series, Stacy's three-dimensional heroines shine through.
Decades after she wrote her first stories on construction paper and years after typing on an inherited green screen computer that weighed half a ton, Stacy realized her dream of becoming a full-time author.
When she's not busy writing or educating her kids from home, Stacy enjoys watching TV shows like Supernatural, Pretty Little Liars, and Once Upon a Time.
Brooke and Dylan have a history but things get crazy when her work life completely falls apart in a horrifying way. He wants to stand by her side but she loves him too much to risk his career by being associated with hers. How will they resolve this very real complication?
I love Indigo Bay! Stacy Claflin’s town on the water is extremely realistic & accurately portrays life in a small town. Everyone knows what everyone else is up to & the gossips always have a field day. When a favored son dies early, the entire town reaches out to support the family & assist in any way possible.
Evan was a small town boy that made it big. As an NFL player, the town enjoyed his success. Now he’s gone and his mom & sister, Brooke, are planning a benefit auction in his name. His best friend Dylan, also an NFL player, is back in town to help. Dylan & Brooke were sweethearts until Brooke broke up with him when he headed to college. Now they have to get past hurts, resentment & anger to work together to honor the man they both loved.
This was a story of second chances - in life & in love. Brooke thought she had the life she’d dreamed of until everything turned on her. The betrayal of someone she looked up to had her second guessing everything she thought was real & that she wanted. It took that betrayal to see who was always supporting her & who she could trust. Dylan was tired of Brooke pushing him away for his own good. He’s determined they’re done until she needed him more than ever. Can they find a way back to each other or will they allow circumstances to drive them further away?
Brooke Davenport is the top aide for a Senator. Dylan Manley is an NFL quarterback. Both are back in Indigo Bay to help with the preparations for a fundraiser dedicated to Evan Davenport, Brooke's older brother and Dylan's best friend. Evan died from complications of a football injury and has left a hole in both of their lives. Their desire to make this fundraiser a success is their remaining bond but at one time they meant everything to one another. When a family emergency calls Brooke's family out of town she and Dylan are left in charge. When Brooke's life starts to further fall apart, Dylan becomes her lifeline. Determined to make the most out of their second chance Dylan is willing to do anything to save Brooke and make it work between them this time around.
The Indigo Bay series is a delight. This is a story of regrets, sacrifices, and second chances. Dylan and Brooke are that couple that everyone knows are meant to be together. I enjoyed every second of their interactions. There is an undeniable sweetness to their story. I also loved the time spent in town gathering items for the fundraiser. It was the perfect excuse to drop in on several familiar locals. I look forward to more stories from the Bay in the future.
Brooke works for a senator in Washington DC, but she comes home after the death of her brother to help with a benefit auction. Dylan is a pro football player & just happens to be Brooke's ex & her brother's best friend. He comes home to help with the auction & they get paired together to help. She doesn't want anything to do with him as she's focused on her career so she splits the list & tells him they will work independently. He still loves her & refuses to give up on trying to win her back.
Her life gets turned upside down when she is told that she's being charged with attempting to kill the Vice President & stealing money. She gets arrested & the only person, other than her family, who is on her side in Indigo Bay is Dylan. She needs him & wants him, but she does what she has always done--push him away for "his own good."
How can they come out of this with both of them getting exactly what they want?
This is another hit from Stacy. This is a unique storyline plot with lots of twists, turns & action. I couldn't put this one down. Her characters are always well-developed, and the characters in this are no exception. I love Indigo Bay. You need to put this on your TBR list.
Brooke Davenport and Dylan Manley set out on very different paths after graduating from high school. Brooke now works for a senator in Washington, DC and has political aspirations of her own. Dylan has become a successful NFL football star who plays in Seattle. Both have returned to Indigo Bay, South Carolina to help with a fundraiser in memory of Brooke’s brother.
Dylan still feels the hurt from her breaking up with him so many years ago and has a hard time believing that she could still have any feelings for him. Still, he is determined to prove that they belong together. When Brooke finds herself in the middle of a political scandal, Dylan is first in line to try and prove her innocence. He also steps up to fill in the gap left when she is unable to fulfill her responsibility to the fundraiser.
There are many obstacles along the road before the two of them can become a couple. Since this is a romance, it is a given that Dylan and Brooke have a future together, but I found myself quickly turning the pages to see what would happen next.
If you enjoy second chance romance, then this is a perfect book for you.
This is the first story I’ve read by Stacy Claflin, but it definitely won’t be the last. The characters are indeed complicated, yet colorful. Twists and turns. . . trouble and more trouble. . .
Brooke is determined to continue her career in D.C., until the worst happens. . . and then she’s even more determined to distance herself from her family and friends so they won’t suffer, too. Dylan is doing everything he can to help, but when sherries to refuse his help, what is he to do?
I really can’t say more; I don’t want to give away too much. But I hope I’ve said enough to pique your interest enough to pick up your own copy and read it for yourself. The story will most definitely hold your interest until the very end.
Brooke was his best friend's little sister and when his friend warns him off, he stays away. Years later, Dylan, a pro-NFL player, returns home to help with a memorial fundraiser, as does Brooke, who became a political campaign manager. Old feelings rekindle, but guilt and misunderstandings keep them apart. Finally - it takes an arrest and national media - to bring them finally together. A well-written, enjoyable story within the well-known community of Indigo Bay. The book can be read as an independent story, or be the starting point for the reader's journey to Indigo Bay. I had received this book from the author as an ARC. This review is voluntary.
Poor Brooke, how much can 1 person take? Her brother’s death, her arrest, a possible frame job, and her love life. Life in a small town has its pros and cons, help from some, a listening ear, shoulder to cry on, friends like Maggie and Caroline are there. People also talk behind your back, are nosey, pretend to be a friend only to cause more problems, yes Elaine I’m talking about you. Dylan fits into the first category and his family as well as Brooke’s family. I just love Colton, her younger brother and his pup Rufus! I had an idea of who was the “villain” in the DC issue, it was good to know when it was revealed that I was right. I love the Indigo Bay series!
❗Treason, you say?! Can anything succeed in driving Brooke's🏈 NFLer away?😟 May 29, 2019 Format: Paperback 👍👍4.5🌟stars 🌅💕 I found this beach town, 💞second chance romance to be original in plot, sweet, clean and a quick and enjoyable read. The hero was sweetly persistent, the heroine a bit bossy and intent on deciding what's best for all concerned, but they work well together in a crisis and, likable as they are, truly deserve a second (maybe even a third) chance at love. 😍
The story's focused, well-written and full of action and a bit of Washington political intrigue. 😊
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Second chance stories are some of my favorites and Sweet Complications was exactly that. Brooke and Dylan were high school sweethearts, but Brooke broke up with him, when he left for college. Evan, Brooke’s brother and Dylan’s best friend, brings them back together while they’re planning an auction in his memory. Evan died from a complication to a football injury. We also have suspense in this book, when Brooke is arrested for being involved in money laundering and plans to assassinate the Vice President. Will they find out who framed her? Will Dylan stand by her or will this be the end of them? Grab your copy and see what happens.
Brooke and Dylan had been high school sweethearts. She made a decision for them and it broke both their hearts. They are reunited in Indigo Bay to pay tribute to her deceased brother who was his best friend. Can these two take a chance on love again? Or will Brooke made a decision for them again and tear them apart for good? I loved Dylan - he was so patient, forgiving and constantly there for Brooke. She frustrated me - but glad for the eventual outcome. A romance but also a mystery to solve.
This was a sweet love story with a lot of complications. Pun intended! Boy and girl fall in love in high school. Break up to go to college but never lose the feelings for each other. Thrown together many years later over a tragedy. The characters were very well developed with an intense back story. Stacy Claflin is a very talented author . The editing is very clean. No spelling of grammatical errors to distract from a great storyline. I would recommend this book to anyone.
Can Brooke and Dylan have a second chance at love? They are in Indigo Bay again helping with the action for Evan’s death, her brother and his best friend and football teammate. They love each other but their are focused in their job and they live far from each other. But while in Indigo Bay, Brooke will be in a very difficult situation and Dylan want to help her. CAn Brooke open her heart to him?
It is a sweet romance. But the complications which keep Dylan and Brooke apart, are really nasty. With one of them ending up in prison... Beautiful story, with strong, fascinating characters and filled with emotions. Nice to see some of the main characters of Stacy Claflin's other books again, like Sky and Aspen. I really loved it!
A sweet easy read. A second chance at love amidst loss/grief of a loved one and surrounded in a little suspense and mystery. To get their second chance Dylan will fit to clear Brookes name and she must learn that she's not alone.
Great story line and a powerful HEA. I liked the characters immediately but realized that they were in a different place emotionally. The h had never fully grieved the loss of her brother and that anger and stunted emotional process had 'stuck' and targeted the H. He was a saint!
A good light read with just the right amount of suspense. Reads very quickly as one chapter ends you want to continue onto the next. Will definitely read more in the series.
