*A special thanks to the author for this review copy. This freely supplied copy does not affect my opinion.*

If I could describe this book in one word, it'd be heartfelt. Williams really captures and hones in on the emotional compass of the reader. While this is a romance, I found it to be less romantic and more heart-tugging.

India is back home for a short stint. She has no intention of staying, however, her family ropes her into another familial obligation.

But once she's done helping with her

If you are looking for a story with black main characters, then this is the story for you! India is the baby of the family. She is also an accomplished violinist that comes back to town for a visit. Upon India's return, she has to deal with family secrets, forbidden secret love, and deciding if she is willing to blow up her family for the things she wants. Travis is divorced from India's sister and has been a family friend for years; however, there are also some secrets

Angsty, passionate, and dramatic!

Forbidden Promises is a heartfelt, intricate, second-chance romance featuring the independent, feisty India and the hardworking, dependable Travis as they discover that even though they really should stay away from each other, they just can’t resist.

The prose is crisp and witty. The characters are intelligent, flirty, hesitant, and intriguing. And the plot is an engaging blend of friendship, emotion, attraction, heat, familial drama, awkward moments, romance, and
Absolutely soapy and over the top second chance, brother's best friend romance that wasn't my to my personal reading taste, but was a fantastic and angst filled romance that will be right for many many readers from from an author who has penned many category romance titles for Kimani Romance (RIP).

A young India spent a wild night under the stars kissing her brother's best friend and her sister's on again, off again hookup, a birthday to remember, but is devastated when he announces his
In the Author Note to start this book, Synthia Williams discusses her love of soap operas and that is absolutely reflected (in the best way) in this book. Essentially the plot of this is that India comes home to discover that her brother is running for national political office and her plan to jet off to LA promptly is unacceptable because she's needed for his image. But this interferes with her attempts to avoid her sister's ex-husband, Travis, who she's pretty much been in love with for years. ...more

I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

Travis and India have history.

India has been living her life the way that she wants. She is an amazing violinist and because of that, she has been able to travel with the Transatlantic Orchestra. When she comes home for a brief brake after finishing with her current orchestra, the last thing she expects is to come home to a busy house.

India is from a very

In Forbidden Promises, India and Travis have a sizzling attraction that they try to deny because of Travis' previous relationship. However, they are also friends and compatible in other ways so their love came naturally. Family bond and forgiveness play a central role in this book. It is the first in a series and the author also established a lot of the other characters in this read. I look forward to reading more of the Robidoux clan. Thank you, #Netgalley

I started reading Synithia when she wrote for Harlequin Kimani. Since that line folded, I was worried about finding rich, well written books about life's toils and difficulties from a Black POV... but so happy to see Synithia is still out here giving us Black romance goodness. This was a fantastic read, so many emotions and levels. I love a forbidden love, particularly love across the "wrong side of the tracks'. This is a great read, you won't regret picking it up.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via Netgalley for review purposes. This in no way influences my reviews; all words, thoughts, and opinions are my own.

FORBIDDEN PROMISES follows India and Travis who are heading for a second-chance romance of sorts. India is coming back home to see her family in between jobs as a violinist. She typically avoids the family, although she loves them, because they have a lot of expectations- and there is her sister's ex-husband, Travis, a man she felt like she was in love with who was mentored by her father, married her older sister, and still BFFs with her brother.

When she arrives back home, she finds out that her
This book is so DRAMATIC. And I love a good dramatic romance but this really took the cake.

India Robideux, fancy international and successful violinist, is part of a tobacco dynasty in NC. She comes home to see family and falls into madness: her sister is a mess, her dad is shacking up with the housekeeper, her brother is running for Senate and her long lost love (and brothers best friend) is also her sisters ex-husband. Soapy drama ensues and family fights happen continuously until the super

India leaves home just after graduating from High School due to the fact that she and Travis had a romantic moment on the night of graduation. Even though Travis is older than India and was involved with her older sister. So now ten years later she comes back home for a visit but finds out that Travis and her sister is now divorced. Planning on not staying long India’s father and brother wants her to stay home to help out with her brothers campaign to run for public office.

This is a second chance romance full of drama and family. India is a talented musician and the baby of her family. She finds herself roped into events to support her brother's run for office = putting her back into contact with Travis, her brother's best friend, her sister's ex and the man she's loved for years. Yep, that's a mess isn't it. It was an amicable divorce (so amicable that Travis is still in contact with everyone) but that doesn't make it ok for India to hook up with him, does it? ...more

Looks are definitely deceiving! Outwardly the Ribidoux family looked like southern royalty, but in reality they were they epitome of dysfunction. As described in the blurb violinist and baby daughter thought after five years away she would quickly visit her family before leaving again. Her brothers bid to become a US Senator put a crimp in those plans. The reason for being away so long made the visit even more difficult. This was a well written, intriguing story that proves to be the start of a ...more

Williams says she was inspired by soap operas when writing this, and you can definitely feel that. There's the family dynasty, the dirty secrets and romances; but it also manages not to go overboard, like there's drama, but it's not melodramatic in a way that I had to put the book down and pace because I was embarrassed by how unrealistic people were acting. The drama ended neatly and the main pair were so sweet and in love, I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series!

It was a slow burn where I was left believing Travis and India's bond. The theme of forgiveness was my favorite! I can't wait for Byron's book!!

This family is just...yeah. India is a strong, independent woman who wanted to make it on her own, and did. She lets family obligation keep her from the man she loves, but Travis isn't about to give up. He made the only choice he thought he had and now he's trying to make up for it. I love them together, and I love the side stories. I can't wait to read more in the series and from this author!
