"Nothing in Pocketful is as it seems."

Chris Capaldi's words of warning haunt my every waking hour. I know I'm in danger, even if I can't identify the threat. Telling Sketch about the night his brother died was a mistake that could prove fatal for all of us. Secrets of this magnitude should stay buried, but it's out now and I can feel the walls closing in on me.

Presley and Sketch are determined to solve the riddle Chris left behind for us. They are hell bent on exposing the truth and bringing his killer to justice – whether I like it or not.

We're in a race against time, with three neon bright targets on our backs, and nowhere to hide. All I know is that leaving the safety of rehab and returning to Pocketful is a terrible idea.
Too bad I don't have a choice.

Pocketful of Shame is the second in a four-book series. Therefore, the storyline continues into the third and fourth book. Because of its explicit sexual content, mature themes, bully themes, potential triggers, and bad language, it is suitable for mature readers.

Series in order:
Pocketful of Blame
Pocketful of Shame
Pocketful of You
Pocketful of Us

***4 "Same girl. Same feelings!!!" stars***

"Nothing in Pocketful is as it seems..."
And the agony is keep going... I am so desperate to read the next book and to get some freakin' answers!!! The things are really strange and sooo fucked up!!!
Sketch, Romi and Presley are running out of time!!!
What will happen after all??? Especially after that damn cliffy in the end of this book???

"You can't be in Pocketful after your eighteenth birthday. They're coming for you... For both of you..."

The book picked up exactly from the moment that ended the first book of the series...
Romi is in a very difficult position and Sketch and Presley are determined to get her free, no matter the consequences!!!
They need her for solving the mystery around Chris's death and she is the only person in the world who has the answers, even though she doesn't know it!!!

"Right now, I need you to forgetting, but when it's time to remember, you'll find what you need in here..."

Romi's mind had stucked to the night of the accident and in here, we found out more about that night and about Chris himself...
When the boys are showing up to help her and as the time in the presence of Sketch is passing by, Romi is starting to remember things that might help them!!!
Unfortunately, there are many people behind them and the time is slipping away like sand!!!
Will they find the answers that they are waiting for of will they have more questions at the end???
What the hell is happening in Pocketful and how are their parents involved in all these???
Is Romi the key in this situation and what is Sketch's role in all of that mess???

"I want the word, Sketch."
"What word?"
"Sorry. I want the damn word, Sketch... You still haven't said the word, Sketch."
"Because it won't fix anything..."
"Maybe not for you-"
"And because I'm not a liar."

I love Sketch and Rom... and i love Presley!!!
Sketch and Rom has many unsolved issues between them and in here, they are making a good progress!!!
Their feelings never stopped existing from both sides but the heartache is too much, especially from Sketch's side!!! That's why he was soooo damn angry with her in the previous book!!!
Now, they are being forced to be constantly on each other's presence and inevitable, they have to find a way to communicate...
God, their love for each other has epic proportions and i want them to be together!!!

"It's still raw for me, you know?
I'm still bleeding, Ro... I think I know what you want from me, but I don't know if I can give it to you..."

"You're right for me, Sketch. I could feel it in my bones when I was five years old and I still feel it now. You and me are what's right, and I really wanna figure out a way to fix this with you."

As for Presley??? He is a genious and he has his own secrets!!!
This guy is very clever and damn... he was soooo hillarious!!!
When he and Sketch were bickering, i was sitting back and just enjoying it!!!
Pres is the one that can make them find out the truth, because even though Sketch and Romi know more, they have too many blanks to fill out!!!

"I have it on good authority that brains are sexy. Women love brains. Give it a couple of years and it'll be all me, dude. I'll be the Don. You wait and see. I'll be the irresistible one." He winked. "Beauty is temporary, but ugly is forever pea-brain. Think about that."
"Again, what the fuck, and I can't stress the world fuck enough, are you talking about?... Pres, you're gay! What do you care what women want?"
"Because I-... Hell you've got me there."

Honestly, I can not understand what the hell is happening in here!!! And I'm so curious to see how Chloe will play everything out!!!
The only thing i know is that i just want more....

"I couldn't freaking breathe.
My whole world was crashing down on me.
Everything was slipping into place.
My oast.
My present.
His past.
Chris..."

Sketch(H), Romi(h) & Pres(best character in this series) = Harry, Hermione & Ron/Percy, Annabeth & Grover.
yes, i know. Pres is definitely the Hermione/Annabeth in this group.

rescue mission, roadtrip adventure cuz duh people are hunting them, figuring out the mystery around their fucked up families.

honestly, what’s not to love?

this is book 2/4 and it’s fairly short. i THINK the author divided this book into 4 parts because if it’s one book, it would be too long. so, this is definitely not a series.

i don’t know what else to say without giving anything away so imma just show my favorite scene from my favorite character (Pres).

“Yes, that was sex, you inconsiderate bastards," a familiar voice slurred from the far side of the room. "Very good sex, by the sounds of it. Congratulations, vagina-muncher; making her orgasm during vaginal penetration her first time round is impressive. No whiskey dick for you, huh? Alas, you're both virgins no more. Now, pull your bionic dick out of the female and stop rocking the damn headboard. Some of us need a full eight hours sleep to function.”

we all love a good loyal/third-wheel bff like Presley.

▹My ⭐ Rating: ★★★.5 out of 5 (rounded up)
▹Format: 🎧Audiobook
▹TL;DR Review: Second of 4 books. I'm liking this story the more I go along, but still struggle with it at times. Here's a link to my review of book 1.

─────────────────────────

○★○ What to Expect from This Book: ○★○

FMC: Ramona “Romi” Dillon. With details of her car accident slowly resurfacing in her memories, Romi finds herself institutionalized against her will. Thankfully Sketch and Pres have other plans!
MMC: Holden “Sketch” Capaldi. Finally coming around to the fact that Romi isn't his enemy and that two sets of memories might be the key to solving what the hell is going on in their families and town.
Notable side character: Presley. He's introduced in book 1, but is almost a third MC in this book. He's comedic relief and has secrets of his own to share.
Location: Pocketful, Louisiana (fictional town)
POV: Dual first-person
Spice: Moderate. 2-3 open-door spicy scenes
Tropes: second chance, mystery/suspense, cliffhanger, small town, high schoolers, buried memories
Triggers: grief of sibling, grief of boyfriend, being institutionalized, nefarious parents, being attacked

🎯 My Thoughts:

I still don't understand why this was split into 4 books, but I'm sure there was a reason. I am starting to like this series more now that some of the plot is thickening up in the slow-burning stew. It's dark, but not like MORALLY dark, just seedy.

I think that because it's split into 4 I find myself groaning and going "get to the point already" but I'm an impatient bitch. If you like stories that slowly (painfully slowly) unravel, I would recommend this one.

All of that to say, there's *something* special about it that I can't quite put my finger on that makes me want to "go home sick" from work so I can finish reading.

ONE LAST (silly) THING: the narrators for these books have a southern accent that sometimes takes me out of the story because my echopraxia requires me to repeat everything in my head. Like, imagine a southern drawl saying "Ramona Priscilla Dillon" (Rah-moana Prah-sillaah Dillaahn). it gets stuck in my head and then I've missed several minutes of plot because I'm so perplexed :D Just me? ah ok. nm.

omg love this. I’m so invested in the mystery and the story. And omg Presley?!?!? he is amazing. I love the way Chloe Walsh writes teenagers, they feel so real and teenagey. The banter between Sketch and Presley was so freakin sweet and frustrating at the same time lmao. I liked that Romi and Sketch had that screaming fight, I felt so fcking relieved after it, they needed to talk like yesterday.

This book will leave you breathless and begging for the next book

Where do I even begin with Pocketful of Shame. It had me at the edge of my seat with each page. Sketch and Romi, they have a love like no other, but there are so many secrets and not enough time to figure them all out. Sketch is angry with Romi, Pres, Romis father, Chris and mostly at himself. Romi gets sedated and strapped to a bed because her father and his girlfriend thought that was best for her. Never have I felt such sadness and anguish towards a character. She saw Chris right before he died and Sketch her one true love tormented her to no ends. All because of secrets. Pockeful of Shame is full of betrayal, heartache, lies and love. It will consume you from start to finish and your left reeling and wondering what just happened. I'm anxiously waiting for the next book to pull me out of my misery and answer all of my unanswered questions. One of my favorite series from Chloe Walsh and excited to read what's next in Romi and Sketchs journey.

The angst between Sketch and Romi is real!
They want to hate each other for their betrayals however the love and friendship they have shared since little has never gone away.
“Fixing us ain't gonna be easy, Ro."
“We've got scar-tissue, baby. Lots of it.”

Pres adds such a great dynamic with his friendship and funny banter.
The Three are trying to unravel the secrets involving Chris’s death.
And They are in hiding and dealing with dangerous enemies.
“Trust no one, Romi. It's a lie. All of it. Don’t trust these people. Protect my brother and get out of Pocketful.”

The ending left me with so many questions!!
Can’t wait for Book 3

Mystery and romance? What more could you ask for?

I was hesitant going into this series because I normally like books that are well over 300 pages long, but I gave it a shot. I read the first book in less than 2 hours and decided I'd wait to read the second book before giving it a review. I'm glad I waited.

This book is nuts, the mystery behind the town of Pocketful and its main characters had me continuously reading. I can't wait for book 3 to come out because I'm dying to find out what's going to happen.

Romi and Sketch are absolutely amazing characters. Their love for one another is like nothing else I've ever read in a young adult book. It's that deep type of love that lasts throughout ages. It's real, it's bone crushing, and it'll make you laugh and cry. Their story is complex mostly revolving around the death of Sketch's brother, which in turn sets off a series of mysterious events, a code that needs to be cracked.

Together, along with a friend named Presley, these 3 embark on an adventure to figure out what Sketch's brother meant by "nothing is as it seems". By the way, can I just say that Presley is probably my favorite character. He had me laughing everytime he was featured in a chapter. His personality, as a character, is simply fantastic. He's funny, smart, and has no cares at to what anyone thinks. He really helped make this book.

So overall, this book is really good. I have no major complaints. The only complaint I have is that there is some editing issues, a few words that may have been missing in a few sentences, and a few words that contradicted other words, for example, if you're going to use the word could've, there is no need to put the word "have" right after "could've" it's a double negative. But I let the grammar nazi in me slide, and enjoyed the book for what it is.

You won't be disappointed.

#1 ↣ Pocketful of Blame: ★★★¾
#2 ↣ Pocketful of Shame: ★★★★★
#3 ↣ Pocketful of You: ★★★★
#4 ↣ Pocketful of Us: ★★★

Well, this series got a whole lot more interesting.

I don't want to reveal too much, but at the end of Pocketful of Blame, Romi Dillon has been wrongfully sent to rehab for her supposed mental instability. Sketch Capaldi, along with Chris's best friend, Presley, must break her out in order to solve the mystery behind Chris's murder. In their quest to dig up the secrets that surround Pocketful, Romi, Sketch, and Presley may just be digging their own graves. They're playing a dangerous game and are on the run, but the only thing is—they don't even know who's chasing them.

I wouldn't say this series has gotten me very emotional, but I'm definitely very, very entertained and invested. Romi, you're doing great, sweetie. Sketch, I'm glad you're slowly—but surely—getting your head out of your ass. And Presley, keep doing you, sir.

I'd watched her face morph and transform from a little girl to a woman; from toothless smiles, to braces, to a perfect white smile, from chubby cheeks to high, sculpted cheekbones. I'd witnessed it all, every stage of her face, and it hurt. Because hers was the only face I ever wanted to look at. Because her face broke my fucking heart.

Romi and Sketch are literally my ideal couple in romance books in terms of safety. How often do you come across characters who have loved each other since their childhoods, who get separated, yet still save themselves for each other? This is love—knowing who you want and only wanting them. Yes, Romi and Sketch made mistakes along the way (like Sketch being an asshole, Romi dating Sketch's twin, etc.), but they found their way back to each other without leaving a trail of other women and other men.

And of course, a little shoutout to Pres, a character we didn't get to see much of in the first book.

"How the hell did Chris tolerate you?"
"I'm told I grow on people." He smiled. "Like ivy."
"Or herpes."

In the beginning, he felt like a caricature to me—but I found myself becoming oddly fond of him. Then suddenly, I was looking forward to everything he had to say. He provided a bunch of comic relief and always broke the tension (sigh, including the sexual tension unfortunately).

Pocketful of Shame brought us a lot of revelations, but there's still so much to be uncovered. That cliffhanger at the end was just plain rude, so I'm going to go ahead and jump to the next ASAP!

Notes on safety (SPOILERS):
➛ h and H were together from ages eleven to sixteen. h's father beats H and forces him to break up with h.
➛ During the first year of the two year separation, h dated H's twin. However, the farthest h and OM went was kissing and snuggling.
➛ h and H are both virgins.
➛ H had no other partners since meeting h (FYI, he met her when he was five).

Wow what a book!

Amazing loved all of it and can't wait for the next one - the cliffhanger was unreal but if I wasn't hooked before (I was) I would be now!

So this book picks up exactly where the last one ends Romi shipped off to some facility, Sketch hating Romi and Pres being the voice of reason.

We get to know more from the events of Chris's death, Poor Romi doesn't know if she is having nightmares or flashbacks, Sketch gets some answers and poor Pres is heartbroken but still a trooper, as usual a side character do Chloe's becomes just as important and fascinating as the main character, just remember how that turned out with Lucky and they are related!!!

The cliffhanger is unreal typically at the worst point even but obviously the best point ever as I can't wait for the next book!

Loved this - well done Chloe as usual you do not dissapoint, amazing writing and amazing story!

This series started really well. I was drawn in, intrigued and didn't skim.

Unfortunately the last book of the series was really really bad. OTT but in a cheesy trying to be a Mafia b grade movie, predictable kind of way. It was so ridiculous. And made worse by the secondary character Presley who was I guess supposed to bring comic relief but was just so completely ridiculous that it just made the whole debacle pathetic.

Such a shame that the author took it the direction she did. She can write. And well. This could have been a solid book with a dark underline. Instead it was stupid. Dumb. Ridiculous. OTT.

If felt creepy... i felt violated and I was the one listening... yeah I'm done. I don't even care what the big plot twist is.

Why did I keep going when I wasn’t sucked in? Because it was just interesting enough to continue forward.

This book follows Sketch, his brother’s secret lover Presley and Romi as they flee the mental institution Romi’s father checked her into for jumping out of a tree in book 1. They’re on the road the entire time, Romi has flashbacks to her childhood that reveal a sketchy and dark past. Sketch has the same flashbacks as Romi and you never learn in this book what any of the flashbacks mean. Romi and Sketch rekindle their flame (begrudgingly for Sketch), and narrowly escape the hit on Romi done by the four men that killed Chris (Sketch’s twin) in book 1. It’s really unhinged given the fact that all the main characters are 17 and 18 years old. This story keeps you intrigued but there are so many poorly written interactions between the main characters it just took me out of the story. The sex/spicy scenes were wayyyyyyyyyyyy too corny and over the top. Shocked this is written by the same author that created Boys of Tommen! The masterpiece of a story! I don’t know if I have it in me to read the following two books. Not invested in the characters enough.

If you're ready for an emotional rollercoaster with small-town secrets, broken hearts, and characters you’ll fall head over heels for, look no further.

Pocketful of Blame, Pocketful of Shame, Pocketful of You, and Pocketful of Us are all told in first-person from Romi, Sketch, and Prestley’s points of view—and they’re ALL currently free on Audible until August 5th!

Romi’s story is raw and intense. After a devastating accident that killed her boyfriend (who just happened to be her ex’s twin brother), she’s branded by her town as the villain. But no one is more brutal than the boy who once promised to protect her, Sketch.

There’s love. There’s trauma. There’s that constant what happened between them? question that pulls you deeper into every chapter. And then there’s Prestley, the absolute MVP of comic relief and loyalty. I’m obsessed 🫶 (Pocketful's Gibsie)

Trigger warning: this series does discuss suicide and bullying, so please take care before diving in.

But if you loved Binding 13 series, and crave a story packed with pain, passion, and powerfully written relationships, add this one to your TBR ASAP.

This review is for Books 1-2...

Wow! Chloe Walsh definitely knows how to suck you in! What an amazing story so far. I’m hooked like a fish plucked from water. I couldn’t stop reading these 2 amazing books. It made me want more and I can’t wait for books 3-4! ( I think I just rhymed lol) I must say the sex scenes were pretty damn hot. The dialogue between Sketch and Preston were funny as hell and the suspense is off the charts!, So if you’re looking for a book that will keep you turning the pages then this is definitely your book. I rated the 1st book a 5 star but the 2nd a 4 star only because Romi in my opinion needs to toughen up. Plus I wasn’t a big fan of both MC being virgins, but again that’s my opinion. These series is definitely worth reading...

romi gets taken to a mental facility and sketch and presley come help her escape. sketch finds out that chris knew that romi’s dad forced sketch away from romi. the fact that they both waited for each other and the love never went away makes me scream. i love romi and sketch and nothing is going to keep them apart anymore. presley and chris being a couple was a shock. i’m so invested in the mystery.

Quotes:

"You're still my best friend and I want you to stay over. You make me feel safe."
"I'm your best friend?" I smiled proudly. "Not Chris?"
"Ew. No. Chris is a goodie two-shoes." She shook her head. "You're my favorite."
"I ain't never been anyone's favorite before." "Well you'll always be mine."

Even though Sketch tries hard to not care for Romi he still showed up for her to get her out of the place her dad had her locked up at and protected her when they were shot at in the diner.. He even admits to her that he's still in love with her..Romi is starting to get her memory back and we see why she was so scared at the end of the first book.. She finally tells Sketch and Quinton what happened the night Chris was killed..The info we find out about Chris and Quinton I kind of saw that coming.. Sketch and Romi have a much needed conversation about their issues and both end up losing their V-cards to each other(Quinton had me dying at this part lol).. Even though Romi and Sketch know more than Quinton he is the one to put everything together and figure stuff out that the two of them can't see so he is much needed for this story.. The back and forth between him and Sketch is the best part of this book.. The ending has me ready for the next one I need to know if Sketch is okay..

Pocketful of shame is book two in the pocketful series. This book is a continuation of Sketch and Romi’s story. Just like the first book in this story, I devoured this book in one sitting. I was gripped from start to finish. This instalment is short, fast paced and angsty.
Without giving any spoilers, things start to get darker and answers start to slowly reveal. Secrets start to unravel for Sketch, Romi and Presley. Some of the secrets that were revealed, I had worked out. The tension between Sketch and Romi was through the roof! My heart ached for both Sketch and Romi and also Presley when his secret came to light.
The storyline for this book is easy to follow and an angsty read. I need the next book now!

Mind. Blown!!

I was extremely lucky to receive an ARC of pocketful of shame.
This is book two in the series and if you have not yet read book one do so before reading this one. It cannot be read as a standalone!
Ok, so, we left book one with Romi locked up, Sketch clueless and Presley playing a real life game of cluedo!! Book one was really a perfect introduction to a series but book two, this book is on a whole new level! All of my theories from book one were all proven to be completely wrong!
Chloe Walsh has managed to weave a perfect little web of secrets and has now shown us that you won't find out anything until she wants you to know it!
I am in shock by the turn of events throughout this book, and am dying to know what will happen next.
In between the drama and the secrets, there is a bond between these three characters that is truly lovely. Their easy banter and ability to read each other so well makes a perfect break in between the heavy subject matter!
I look forward to finding out the next batch of clues in the next book!

I received an arc from the author (a few hours ago)

This is book 2 in a series so make sure you start at the beginning with book 1.

A few years ago I read my first Chloe Walsh book. And read everything I could of hers, she became one of my must read authors and with each book she releases I grab it up. This series does not disappoint. As much as I want everything in one book. I really don’t because I don’t want the story to end.

Can’t wait to see what’s next for Romi and Sketch. Because that ending left me wanting to throw my phone across the room. (I didn’t. But mainly cause I like my phone a little too much)

Can’t wait for the next book in the series!

Amazing as always!

Chloe Walsh is an amazing story teller! She has this very special talent with words that just make you so hooked with every bit of the story. You don't want to miss anything that might be a clue to the next scene/book/etc. I have never had so many theories made up in my head on how this story would pan out. She's so cheeky and she surprises you when you least expect it.

Romi and Sketch has had a lot of revelation in this book. Pain, heartache, angst, lots of laugh too will be experienced while you are reading this. Oh and Presley, you will LOVE him! I can't wait for the third book!

Perfection!
This is book two and book one left on a cliffhanger as does this one. Normally I wait to binge a series but I’m so glad I didn’t wait. They release one a month so the wait isn’t very long.

The characters.. Romi and Sketch equally break my heart and make me adore them! The angst, the heat and all the feels!!
Presley is comic relief mixed with a wacky intelligence that is so amusing and just genius!!

The story had me turning the pages as fast as I could. The author balances the emotional aspects and the mystery/suspense so well.

Just amazing how I was laughing one minute and teary eyed the next. Simply wonderful!!

Read other books from this author in the future: yes

The second book continues where the first one ended.

Again the book ends on a cliffhanger. The second book is a good follow up to the first book. It is a short story, but I liked it.
