On a deserted country road, Janet West accidentally strikes a woman with her SUV. She gets out to render aid but is attacked and drugged. When she wakes, she’s back inside her vehicle and the woman—along with the assailant—have vanished.
Todd Duncan is shocked by the vicious assault and the haphazard investigation. Unlike the police, he believes Janet. She’s driven to find the woman regardless of the risk and, although Todd’s in town temporarily, he’s not leaving his friend to do this alone.
Yet the more they dig into the mysterious woman’s identity, the deadlier the threats become. Someone is determined to keep what happened that night a secret, and if they have to kill to do it…
So be it.
This inspirational romantic suspense novella has a fast-paced mystery intertwined with a sweet romance. It’s perfect for your commute, lunch break, or anytime you want a quick escape.
Lynn Shannon is a Publishers Weekly bestselling author of inspirational romantic suspense.
After moving from Texas to Greece, Lynn turned her passion for reading into a love of writing. She lives with her husband, two children, an extremely spoiled dog, and a pair of chirpy lovebirds. Experiencing life in a new country has introduced her to delicious foods—like Yemista and Kourabiedes—which now share a place on her favorites list alongside pecans and Blue Bell ice cream. She also never passes up coffee, chocolate, or the chance to watch cute animal videos.
A dark and dangerous introduction to Sweetgrass, how can Janet prove there was a body, it can't just vanish....can it? Janet is frustrated that she was drugged and the woman disappeared, livid that only Todd believes her, scared that the woman is going to be tortured more if she doesn't find her, heartbroken when they target Callie too and devastated that something so sinister is going on in her beloved town. Todd has been her rock, supported her, protected her, investigated with her but she cannot fall for him, he's leaving, moving on - she must fight her feelings and guard her heart. Todd fully planned to leave, until Janet is in danger, then his instincts kick in and he has to protect her...because she is his! Time to stop running Todd. This book is almost a prequel to the Texas Ranger series, Janet is the sister of the Texas Ranger in book one, we briefly meet him here and another member of his team who Janet contacts to investigate. Other than being set in Sweetgrass and Janet being related to Grady (Texas Ranger book one) there is no direct link to the series, this is a dark and twisted novella that easily works as a stand alone book. The Texas Ranger series is available on Kindle Unlimited, but this book isn't, however at just 99p it is good value, plenty of plot twists and suspense.
Janet is driving on a country road one night when she hits a woman with her SUV. She gets out to check on the woman and she is attacked and drugged. When she wakes up, she is in her car and the woman and her attacker are nowhere to be found. The police are skeptical of her story but her friend Todd believes her. Todd and Janet begin to investigate on their own but someone doesn't want them digging around. Janet receives deadly threats and Todd vows to protect her. Janet and Todd must quickly find the missing woman before it's too late and someone winds up dead.
This was a fast-paced little novella that had a good blend of action, mystery, and romance. Lynn Shannon has become a palette cleanser for me. She is someone that I can always expect to have a good book where I don't have to think too much and can just enjoy being along for the ride. Her books aren't the most memorable but I know exactly what I'm getting and I really enjoy them at just the right time. This book was no exception. I enjoyed the story and even though it was short, it still had everything I needed in a suspense without being bogged down with too much investigation. The romance could have done better in a longer book but I still think she did a great job of including enough and still having plenty of time for suspense. All in all, an enjoyable, short read that was well balanced and gave me what I expected.
Great, short book featuring Janet West from a previous book, and her handyman, Todd. I thought for sure I had read this storyline when Janet hits a woman with her car in a heavy downpour, but the rest of the story was new. A lady is kidnapped but not reported missing as the kidnapper extorts money from his fiance's srepdaughters. Janet searches because the police chief won't. She & Todd figure out the answer to where she is being held and confront the kidnapper. Suspense is heavy when it looks for sure like they will all be killed. 😳
Based on the Afterword at the end of the book, Janet appears somewhere in the Ranger Protection series of books. I have not read any of the series. It doesn’t say it on anything I can find ( on this book at least) but it does appear that the Ranger Protection series is a faith based series.
This book was short and sweet at only 45 pages or so but thoroughly engrossing as I read the entire thing in about 20 mins or so. I like the characters and will probably end up reading some of the Ranger Protection books.
She was driving along when she hits a woman and so she gets out to help. After an attack she is back in the car. Her friend is not happy with how the police have dealt with the case. The more they try to find out what happen the more dangerous it is getting. What happened? Who is behind it all? Will they find out? See where this will take you
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
There's more suspence than romance in this short story but what a great novelette! I love Lynn Shannon's style. She creates characters you want to get to know better. The plot in this story hooked me from page one. The romance while secondary, is nicely done. If you're looking for a quick suspense book with a healthy dose of clean romance included, you should check out this book.
This was a quick, clean mystery/ suspense with a bit of romance slipped in. i feel like the relationship between Todd and Janet should have been fleshed out a lot more. The history of the prison tunnel was interesting. I probably wouldn't read it again, but it was good back story leading into the next Ranger book.
A fast paced mystery that grabs your attention and won’t let go. I couldn’t put it down. Definitely a Christian story, which for me made it more credible and more interesting.
For a short and sweet book, it packed a punch. It had intrique, mystery, faith in God and romance. For a short story, it kept !y attention and I had read it all the way to the end before I realized it
It was a really good read even though it was short story. The characters were strong and stubborn but believable from the beginning to the end of the story. Can't wait to read her next book.
I really enjoyed this novella. The characters were well developed. The suspense started immediately and kept going with lots of twists and turns. The romance was sweet and I love that the characters turned to the Lord to comfort and guide them.
Quick read. This should have been developed into a more detailed story. Not enough explanation why Todd was in her life. Why the Maxwell brothers made the decisions they did. Had potential to be a really good story.
This is a good prequel to the Texas Ranger Heroes series. It’s fast-paced and suspenseful - it’s a short, quick read, but has enough detail to keep it interesting.
