Pretty good. Missing the fire and sizzle.

I have to say this book left me with many mixed feelings. On one hand the beginning was a bit humorous and started with a fun twist. On the other, I really had issue with Sarah’s character.

This book is the first one I have read by this author so I really had no idea what to expect. I do love a great cowboy romance and this one looked so promising.

Cade was a doll and even though he had his own issues, he had a lot going for him. He was caring a

Sarah Turner has led a sheltered life since her brother's death when they were kids. Her parent's took her out of school and homeschooled her. She didn't have any friends and lived on her family ranch. Now as an adult and after her parents' deaths she now has to figure out how to keep the ranch going. So she needs to hire a manager. She posts it online but the paper says she wants to hire a cowboy for herself lol. For years she has also had her families cook/housekeeper take care of her.

hmmmmmmmm Sometimes, I start a review with that noncommittal phrase because I really can’t commit to one way or the other with a story. The thing about this book is that for every positive there’s an equal on the other hand and it makes it hard to review. I think the best way to put this is that my likes and dislikes about romance fiction don’t fit with this story. Better yet, what I like to read doesn’t fit with this story. Mechanically, the book was on point, except maybe … (SEE, there’s alway ...more

Sweet, romantic and touching story. Cade and Sarah were a cute couple.

This is a story of two people scarred by their different but dramatic childhoods who find healing and love together.

Sarah Turner is twenty-six but has spent most of her life since she was ten years old in comparative isolation, coddled, never mixing with her peers or the local community and homeschooled on her family ranch. Following the death of her parents she now owns the ranch and is determined to learn how to run it successfully, despite her foreman quitting. Cade Walker successfully applie

Book 2 in the Wishing River series. Ok read. Had some good laughs. Sarah and Cade were a good couple. Two broken people brought together to make the other whole. Slow and sweet romance so if that is what you are looking for then this is for you.

I received an ARC from NetGalley and I am voluntarily leaving a honest review.

This was by far one of my favorite books EV-AH!!! I adore Vivian James and her stories but Cowboy For Hire is now my favorite. Once I started reading it, I just could not put it down!

Cowboy for Hire is a sweet, awkward romance involving a couple of sweet, awkward characters. There're a lot of issues between these two, but I think that they work well here. Cade is caring and supporting, exactly what Sarah needs in her life. She's spent a lot of years being repressed and she's ready to stand on her own two feet. She's a little like a newborn colt, all gangly legs and clumsiness, but she's determined to stand on her own and finally do what makes her happy.

Cade has spent all of

This story starts out fairly funny. Sarah's ad accidentally gets mixed up with an escort ad and she gets a lot of "cowboys" coming to her aid. But Sarah is really in need of a ranch manager who can show her how to run her ranch. She was never truly given a chance to learn. Her dad was a true believer that girls shouldn't run a ranch. But when tragedy strikes her family, Sarah k

This was a good contemporary romance. It was mostly clean and had a lot less cussing than the first book!

I really liked Cade. He was exactly what I expected and had a lot of typical flaws - but he was more of a gentleman than I expected and I loved it. I loved how he was patient even when he didn't want to be and I loved how complimentary he could be. But mostly I loved how hard working he was.

I loved Sarah. She hasn't had an easy life but she is amazingly strong. I was so impressed with her thr

This is a sweet story about two people coming into their own and discovering who they really are meant to be.

I liked both Sarah and Cade and enjoyed getting to know them. Both are interesting characters on their own, but together they seemed to bring out the best in each other. I think my favorite thing about Sarah was her willingness to put herself out there and stretch the muscles of independence. Both had some emotional growing to do and part of me wishes that Sarah had a few more o

Cowboy for Hire
by Victoria James is the second book in her Wishing River series but can be read and enjoyed as a standalone.

I really loved the first book in the series and while this has the same writing style and clean wholesome vibe it just didn't land the same way with me. It has moments that will tug on your heart strings and situations you can't help but chuckle at but the whole story felt to scripted. The character , while indi

This was one of the sweetest romances that I have read in a long time. The heroine Sarah had been sheltered most of her life and had to deal with tragedy at different stages in her life. Sarah was determined to finally live her life on her terms and take control of her ranch. To do so would mean hiring a new foreman, Cade, which would change her life in many ways. He was looking for a place of his own in this world but felt he had nothing to offer Sarah. Boy was he wrong! The chemistry between t ...more

I am not sure what it is about Victoria James' books, but they grab me by the heart and keep it for the entirety of the story. This one is no different. Cade and Sarah are two characters you instantly feel for and want them to heal along with a happiness to their lives. Here is Sarah, a young woman suffering after much tragedy, desperately wanting to be in control of her ranch/life, yearning to start living. And then there is Cade. A man struggling to find his self worth, determined to be a good ...more

Under the skin and into the heart. Victoria James connects deeply with readers because the emotion that her stories convey is real. Cowboy for Hire should be a walking heartache, but instead turns out to be a tale of empowerment. Sarah Turner is finally learning to spread her wings after years of self-doubt. Cade Walker is at a crossroads. Trust does not come easy for this loner cowboy. When life veers off track, fate has a few tricks up

I LOVED how Cade and Sarah met each other and at the end of their first meeting he mentioned seeing her "other ad" that was hilarious. The way that Cade tried to keep things professional between them after a weekend away together was a valiant effort but he couldn't deny the attraction between them. Victoria James is a new to me author and I will be checking out some of her other books because I am so intrigued by the rest of the Wishing River crew. While this is the second book in the

I love cowboy stories! I started reading romances by reading them and I just love the simplicity and sweetness of the romance in the country. Ms. James has a wonderful writing style and created in this book a sweet story about a shy but strong female character who must be in charge of her family business and is not afraid to ask for help. Cade has been through a lot in life and is trying to find his place in the world and seeks for another position as a farm manager.

A cowboy read with a different twist. This started out funny and I really thought there would be more humor throughout. Felt rather sad for Sarah and thankful it was Cade who came into her life. He also had problems, but between the two, they worked out the kinks, not without mishaps and misunderstandings, they did make it work. A happy ending for two rather lost souls who found their other half!

Cade and Sarah both are damaged people. They are both striving to make their lives better. Sarah needs help running her ranch and Cade wants a change and applies for the job. I love reading the journey of these two people. Reading about how they over come their past and learn to work together. How they learn to love and to trust each other. Where to begin with this book? I should start by saying it has its moments.

That said, I did expect more from it. More conflict, more tension to keep me turning the pages. On their own, the characters were super likable and both had so much depth. I could see the story unfolding in real life, but a story is not supposed to be like real life. It's supposed to have a conflict. I guess this is what bothered me the most.

Fine, okay, there is a conflict, but...

I was so glad to discover that Cowboy for Hire continues the Wishing River series for when I’d read The Trouble with Cowboys last year it wasn’t clear that there would be a series forthcoming – it felt like the beginning of a series, but nothing official at that time. Now I’ll (hopefully) get the stories of other characters I first met last year and really wanted to get to know better.

I saw both Cade and Sarah as wounded souls for far, far different reasons. While Sar

She is a hopeless romantic who is living her dream, penning happily-ever-after's for her characters in between managing kids and the family business.
