Tolstoy wrote happy families are all alike. Until they aren’t. In All the Best Lies FBI Special Agent Reed Markham is going three for three. His birth mother, the young Puerto Rican, Camilla Flores was brutally murdered forty years ago in Las Vegas, while he lay in a crib in the next room. He is recently divorced from his wife and desperately missing his daughter. Finally, Reed is about to implode his very loving adoptive family thanks to some information he recently discovered.

All the Best Lies is getting a 5 star from me because it is still a few months away from publication, but when I gave it a quick peek last evening, I just couldn't stop reading. Ellery Hatheway is still on suspension, but when Reed drops by and asks her to follow him to Las Vegas to cover the cold case of his birth mother's murder, she cannot help but jump at the chance to do some investigating. But Ellery is going to have to deal with her own family problems along the way. Add to that the ...more

Reed and Ellery travel to Las Vegas to solve his mother's murder. This one was such fun to write, and I can't wait for it to hit the shelves!

FBI agent Reed Markham has saved more than a few lives, including Ellery Hathaway's, but there is one person whose death has haunted him for decades. Camilla Flores was just a poor waitress when someone brutally murdered her in front of her four-month-old son. Forty years later, the Las Vegas PD wants to lay the case to rest but Reed isn't ready to forget about it—not until he finds his birth mother's killer, anyway. With Ellery's help, he sets out to unravel the mystery of Camilla's past. It's ...more

This is the third book in this series and even though it can be read as a stand alone book it does refer back to a lot of previous characters. I have enjoyed this series and hate to see it end

All the best praise for All the Best Lies, the third of the Ellery Hathaway mystery series! I was engrossed from start to end and enjoyed the new complications in Reed and Ellery’s lives as he investigates a personal cold case with Reed’s help. This is my favorite of the series so far.
Thanks to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press and the author Joanne Schaffhausen for an advanced digital review copy. This book will be published February 11, 2020.

Whenever Reed Markham and Ellery Hathaway get together, it is never for a dull afternoon doing laundry. Ellery is still suspended from her job, and Reed has decided to take a close look at an unsolved closed case. The victim, Camilla Flores, was brutally murdered while her baby was in the next room. That little boy was Reed, adopted by the wealthy Markham family. Recent events have made Reed question his birth, his adoption, his family, and who killed his biological mother. Reed reaches out to ...more

I found this to be remarkable reading. Reed is an FBI profiler who is now looking into the forty year old murder of his mother. He is also examining his entire identity as he has just learned who his birth father was. Ellery is a Boston cop who is presently on a leave because she murdered a killer and her superiors are looking into the circumstances of the death. She is also discovering herself after having been kidnapped, held and tortured by a serial killer when she was a teenager. Reed, then ...more

Another great installment of the Reed and Ellery saga. In this one we get a more personal glimpse of both of their lives and their family secrets, and of course plenty of intrigue, twists and turns. I love the imagery in this, Las Vegas is described perfectly I felt like I was there. Very enjoyable, would definitely recommend, and can't wait for the next one!!

All the Best Lies is book 3 in the Ellery Hathaway series. This book can be read stand-alone, but I highly recommend reading the earlier books in the series first since the books build on each other. All the Best Lies picks up where No Mercy left off. I read No Mercy last year, so I had a little trouble remembering what was happening at the beginning of this book initially.
In All the Best Lies, FBI agent Reed Markham takes center stage as he tackles the 40-year-old cold case of his mother's

An excellent read! One of those books you are happy is already a series: I want more of these lead characters. Excellent well plotted mystery with enough surprises and twists and thrills paired with a developing romance, some accurate police procedural stuff--this book has it all. Schaffhausen is a great writer. I highly recommend this mystery.

Unlike some series books Schaffhausen’s just keep getting better and better. Ellery Hathaway is so damaged that it will take many more cases and personal interactions for her to begin to understand herself and to feel normal. FBI agent Reed Markham also has demons in his closet . He can’t get over seeing the condition 14 year old Ellery was in when he rescued her from her kidnapper and abuser and even though she is now grown and a police officer, albeit, a suspended one, he keeps trying to ...more

I was happy but also a bit hesitant to receive a notice from the publisher giving me an opportunity to read this since I read the 2nd book of the series through Net Galley. My hesitation was because I didn't particularly care for the 2nd book because Ellery was so nasty and vicious to everyone around here especially Reed when it was not necesssary and it made the book more difficult to get through. I am very pleased to say that I am definitely glad that I ended up reading "All the Best Lies" ...more

I was thrilled to get a copy of All the Best Lies from the author through Net Galley. I had read the previous two Ellery Hathaway books, Vanishing Season and No Mercy and enjoyed them both. All the Best Lies continues the story of abuse survivor Ellery and FBI profiler Reed Markham. As such, I would highly recommend reading the earlier two books in the series first. Although the author does refer to events of the previous books, to really appreciate the plot and the development of the ...more

Third in the Ellery Hathaway series. Reed is looking into the murder of his biological mother 40 years earlier, partly due to the unexpected results of his DNA test at the end of book 2. This was my favorite book in the series so far. I couldn't put it down. Five stars.

Although the book is billed as another installment of the Ellery Hathaway series, this story focuses around FBI Reed Markham and his search to solve his mother's murder. Reed grew-up in the home of a wealthy politician, always knowing he was adopted and his mother was murdered when he was a baby. In the last novel, Reed learned that he shared DNA with his adopted sisters and determines his adopted father and biological father are the same man. Now, with freedom that comes with his new role in ...more

Ellery and Reed are back in this third installment of Schaffhausen’s adventure filled series. When Reed unwittingly discovers a long hidden family secret, he decides to find out what happened to his murdered biological mother. As Ellery and he travel to Vegas to ask questions about the decades old murder, Reed painfully learns about his mother’s life and the people who may have had a hand in her murder. While I figure out who killed Reed’s mother halfway through the story, it’s due to the well ...more

Ellery Hathaway and Reed Markham, the FBI agent who rescued her from horrific abuse when she was a child,, are an unlikely pair, but as in the two previous novels in this series, they are a winning one. Ellery has grown into a prickly but appealing young woman who seems to have recovered from her childhood trauma - enough to pursue a career as a police officer, which is when she reaches out to Reed, still an FBI profiler. In this third, compelling thriller, it's Reed who needs Ellery to help him ...more

I started this book with a set of preconceived ideas, after about ten pages, I knew I was wrong.
While the subject covered is common, cop or FBI agent looking into his mothers murder forty years ago, (think Bosch), it quickly begins to spin off into a whole different world.
The characters come to life.. you start thinking this person or that killed her, the local cops are not much help.
Politicians, cops, even a reporter, everyone he talks to seems to have their own ideas, and are not about to

This book is the third in a series but reads well as a standalone. This story focuses more on FBI agent Reed Markham who wants to solves the unsolved mystery of who killed his mother when he was a baby. She was brut stabbed to death more than forty years ago. It has now become a cold case. He enlists the help of his friend Ellery who is still on leave to help him find out who committed this murder. I loved the first book in this series but the second one not so much and while I still think this ...more

This is by far the best book of the series. Gripping, full of tension and suspense, this book picks up from the shocking cliffhanger of the previous story. We get a lot more of Reed in this story. Ellery is much more developed. I love seeing the growth in these two characters and the relationship between them. This mystery had so many twists. I didn't guess the villain and I absolutely didn't see the shocking ending coming. I even love to hate Reed's exwife. I really hope we get more books in ...more

Ellery Hathaway is still suspended, so she might as well go to Las Vegas with FBI Agent Reed Markham to help him follow new leads in his mother's murder. Ellery survived an infamous serial killer as an adolescent, rescued by Reed Markham himself, and is still dealing with the fall-out from that trauma. Nonetheless, she is a smart investigator and and useful ally for Reed as he begins to investigate secrets that people would rather he just leave alone. Another good chapter in the continuing saga ...more

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an e-ARC of this title. As I progressed through the book, I realized I'd read The Vanishing Season, the first in this series. I often don't care for series, but this one works. I love that the author really did great character development with the characters. They felt real and genuine. I didn't see the end coming at all. I was pleased with the ending, but that was the only part, as a mom, that I felt was a bit unrealistic. I definitely recommend ...more

I would rate this book a solid 4-1/2 stars! This is my first outing with this author and as much as this book is part of a series, it could be read as a stand alone. I truly enjoyed this book and read it basically in one sitting! There were a lot of twists and turns in the book ...but it was the ending that totally captivated me ...I never envisioned that scenario in the slightest! I look forward to more of novels from this author

I would like to thank Ms. Schaffhausen, the publisher and

This is the third book I have read about Ellery and Reed. This time the story is more about Reed. In book 2 Reed takes a DNA test for a family gift for his adopted father. That test leads into the main story of book 3. When the results are not as expected Reed decided he and Ellery will look into the death of his birth mother. What a number of leads and false leads. A good twist at the end. Another good story for Ellery and Reed.

I just finished this book!! I just loved it. I won this book through a Goodreads giveaway! I was so excited to get the advance readers edition. Couldn’t put it down. I just purchased the first two in the series in hardcover. Can’t wait to read those! I will purchase this one in hardcover as soon as it is released on February 11, 2020. Great book! Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to preview All the Best Lies by Joanna Schaffhausen. This is the 3rd book in a series - and I really liked it.
This can be a stand alone, but reading the others does help with the background of one of the main characters. This book concentrates on Reed and his background story, but lends to a mystery as well.
Solid plot and enjoyable till the end.
Recommend.
