My Lantern and the Fairy: A Story of Light and Kindness Told in English and Chinese
A sweet story that shows how one small act of kindness can help those around you.
Little Mo and her family always compete in their village's annual lantern competition, but this year she has no new ideas and doesn't know where to begin. As a thunderstorm rolls into town, Little Mo finds herself wishing for help in front of a lamp post. Worried that the rain will put the lamp's flame out, Little Mo uses her own umbrella to cover the lamp. Little did she know, an unexpected recipient of her selfless act would guide Little Mo to victory in the lantern competition in return.
Not only does this book emphasizes the importance of kindness, but presents the story in both English and Chinese. Children and parents will love learning about Chinese New Year's Lantern Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival, and can even make their own lantern by following the step-by-step instructions at the back.

Beautiful illustrations of a story told in English and Chinese!

The artwork is beautiful, and I always wanted to know how to build a sculpture lantern! (answered in this book). Downsides are that I felt the characters one-dimensional, and the story anticlimactic. It was emotionally unsatisfying because there was no risk. What would've happened if the main character didn't win the lantern contest? She'd be a little disappointed, but life goes on and her family's still there to love her.
However, I do feel this book and the information it contains about various Chinese arts is an important addition to the cultural landscape. Nicely done!

It was neat that the story was told in both English and Chinese. The artwork on every page was beautiful. I didn't find the story that engaging, though.

Here is a fantasy story told in both English and Chinese. It has the English and below it, the Chinese characters. There is no pin yin to read. The character for Little lantern fairy is something I can pick out.
The family of little Mo is getting ready for their lantern festival. There is going to be a competition and the winner of the best lantern will win a prize. AFter the announcment, little Mo sees a statue of the little lantern fairy. It begins to rain and Little mo uses her umbrella to cover the statue. The little lantern fairy appreciates the gesture and she begins to help little Mo so she can win the lantern festival.
The artwork is very colorful and beautiful. It has a magic quality about it. It would be easy for kids to love this story. It's so cozy. Everything turns out well and it's fun to see them making the lantern. They give instructions on how to make it.

Cute story, but I was looking for a Chinese/Lunar New Year. This was about a lantern contest which I know the blurb on the back of the book mentions that, but I was hoping they go together. They do not. Cute illustrations though and this book is in English and in Chinese so that was pretty cool.

It was cute and beautiful...an overview of the lantern festival and just how those lanterns made in the first place!
